So my daughter informs me today is International Women’s day.
I am making a venison casserole, chocolate brownies and then bread to take away for our long weekend tomorrow.
I will then clean the downstairs of the house, iron and prepare supper😬.
How are you celebrating?

Yammy Thu 09-Mar-23 12:01:55

I celebrated by being taken out in the fells while the sun was shining. A walk around a remote village with a lovely pond.
No housework at all and super already made the day before.

I went to the WASPI Fight Back Rally and stood in the pouring rain with thousands of 1950s women who were not notified of the raising of the pension age from 60 to 66. To all those who state we wanted equality you got it, 1950s women did not have equality in their working lives. Yesterday it was debated regarding the huge pension gap between men and women, mainly due to women's caring responsibilities. So to all the over 70 women who got their pensions at 60 and to those women who are married without financial concerns, I would ask you to have empathy with your sisters who had no way to prepare for their retirement. Now they want to escalate the spa more quickly when life expectancy is decreasing. In addition the media covered extensively the French protests against pension age rise from 62 to 64. But very little coverage for us. I believe that we were considered easy targets but they were wrong.

Parsley3 That makes me so cross 🤬

Me too. I have heard that screening centres are sending invitations out to men who have identified as women to come for cervical screening.

Are prostate checks are offered to women?
What a waste of NHS funds.
International women’s day should be for anyone who identifies as a woman however the NHS offering cervical screening for someone born with tallywhackers is madness.

They'll be looking for a long time for something to screen!!!!!
'Many years ago I had to go for an abdominal scan it seemed to take ages then the Dr. said" Would you have happened to have something taken away?" a hysterectomy had not been recorded in my notes.

😂

I celebrated with sausage and mash, with onion gravy!
But I didn't cook it

Very envious Callistemon I love sausage and mash and doesn't it always taste better when cooked by someone else

And he cleared up afterwards! 😀

I think we should celebrate both men and women.
I went on a Pride walk with a couple of lesbian friends/family last Sunday. If all of those people can celebrate who or what they are why can’t we?

Sago Wed 08-Mar-23 23:23:11

Well I have worked like stink today in the hope we can leave tomorrow and drive North to our holiday let, it’s our last weekend there before the Spring bookings start.
I’ve baked, made stews, pates and all manner of good things for our son and DIL who are supposed to be driving up from London to join us.
I have an awful feeling we will be snowed off😬.

This one is a tribute to my mum, one of the original feminists.

I am drinking wine and arguing on GN about Gary Lineker, not sure if this is a fitting way to celebrate the day.

It's snowing hard here so not exactly having a day off,but certainly not going anywhere other than a quick dog walk and making some leek and potato soup. Apart from that, afternoon telly and a snooze.

Haha, I’m doing similar but no dog walking and the pea and ham soup comes from a can. So, yeah, a day off.
A crackling fire going and a good book as well.😃

A bold way to make a statement ...

I do think it is important that any of the rumours circulated about transpeople are challenged. Many of them have no basis in fact.
As far as cervical screening goes transmen are the people likely to be overlooked, as only people registered as female are automatically invited for screening, Transmen need to refer themselves.

But for IWD which woman would you like to see a statue of? Women's statues are sadly lacking in the UK

Wyllow3 Wed 08-Mar-23 19:51:59

Look, there have always been rifts and differences within the Womens movements since they begun. Can we leave it out for a day please? another place perhaps?

RTJ70 Wed 08-Mar-23 19:51:13

Thank you and yes it seems to get harder to balance it all. Let's all keep supporting each other and celebrating women everywhere who make a difference.

My son called in on his way home from work and told us that the CEO at his company had sent out an email regarding International Women’s Day, and so my son sent his wife a text message saying ‘Happy International Women’s Day. What time will my dinner be on the table tonight?’
Heads up, he was joking grin He’s a bit of a joker, and by the way, he does the cooking at their house.

I know I had deviated from the OPs question so apologies to the OP.
I do believe the doctor. Some transwome
n have demanded having invitations for tests and that is why this health board sent them.
The transwomen had no intention of attending for screening but they felt it their right to be included.
I don't think TW are routinely invited but if they want to be included it becomes difficult.

Gloryanny No link as this was told to me by a doctor I meet sometimes who had to send the invitations. He was not happy about it.

You ask what I have been doing. I've been wondering why you would dismiss something out of hand as unless you are employed by the screening service how would you know? I have also been on a shopping trip before the snow arrived.

I wonder if he is bit confused AGAA4 Trans-men are invited for screening because they still have a cervix.
Well the screening process is pretty clearly set out on the NHS site.
AS this thread is about what people are doing on IWD I thought I would ask.

RTJ70

Hi, First post here so hi everyone 👋
I have been to the gym, had a One You weight loss session by phone then did a tiny bit of housework. Now I'm having an hour listening to music all by myself. Wednesday is my only day I get free. I look after my lovely granddaughter on Mondays, elderly dad on Tuesday, work Thursday and Friday and I try and spend 1 day with my autistic 20 year old. Trying to get a good balance in my life this year as was full time until Christmas but it's not always easy. Definitely feel like celebrating being a woman today.

Welcome RTJ70 - happy Women's Day! And it fell on your day off smile.

You've certainly got your work cut out - obviously, not much time to yourself. The 'balance' is so important as we get older - I've been telling myself that for the last 30 odd years and never got it right!

We are no more special than men, but we are as special as men and it is because we are treated as if we are less special than men that we have this day of stating it.

Maybe you should read the William Golding Quote 'Women are crazy.'..

Wyllow3 Wed 08-Mar-23 18:01:59

PS, thats so sweet, Urms!. I'll try to access the one I got as a pic.

Entertaining myself reading the the PayGapApp’s Twitter feed on the gender pay gap at employers who tweet about IWD

twitter.com/paygapapp/status/1632727861537693696?s=46&t=cR0Pa_B5bkzj2u6O2LXngQ

(Yes, I recognise that equality is more complex than just pay)

Iam64

I’m away at a retreat
We are celebrating by discussing the history of the day and our contributions to the lives of women
Yes we are a group of women and men

* Iam64* good to hear!

In the 1970's in the women's Movement most of us as part of the whole picture wanted to work with men and many of us did as many of them "saw", accepted, and agreed.

Glad its still going on.

Went shopping for a birthday present for DGS3 and a son in law. Good job I love them both.
