Just that really.

Of course they can, they choose not to.

NotTooOld Wed 08-Mar-23 21:59:19

Seems a daft idea considering the opinions they apparently hold of the royal family. Why would they call the sprogs prince and princess? Oh, yes, silly me. Publicity, of course.

I don't understand how H&M can't recognise the hypocrisy in this.

Nor me.

Callistemon21 Wed 08-Mar-23 21:53:40

Oh yes, can you imagine the fun they'll have making Mummy curtsey!

And when they become stroppy teenagers - "You cannot tell me what to do, you're only a Duchess and I'm a Prince/Princess"

MawtheMerrier Wed 08-Mar-23 21:51:29

As Mummy is only a Duchess, will she have to curtsey to Prince Archie and Princess Lillibet? She could do with the practice if that clip of her first attempt to the Queen is anything to go by hmm

Seems coincidental that the christening took place just last Friday, after all the Frogmore and South Park publicity.

Lilibet will be 2 in June, you wonder why they haven’t bothered to get her baptised earlier.

Good time to bury a bit of ‘iffy’ news, with the excitement about the Princess title.

Wonder why these non working royal parents are bothered about a title when they have trashed everything else about Harry’s family.

Is anything these two do worth giving more than a seconds thought?

It is a titillating strip tease that has gone on so long all the punters have left or fallen asleep.

Correct MOnica alongside the ‘will they, won’t they attend the coronation’.
Yawn..

Can't help wondering why they seem so keen to tell us their children are a Prince and Princess when America threw out the monarchy centuries ago. You'd almost think it was a publicity stunt.

Casdon Wed 08-Mar-23 20:43:15

Sorry, I didn’t express that very well. What I meant was that I think Anne and Edward thought it would be a burden for their children to have the monikers as they were not going to be working members of the royal family. I thought that was also why Archie wasn’t originally given the title Prince, it just seemed sensible.

Casdon Wed 08-Mar-23 20:30:52

You’re right, but also wrong Blossoming. As you said, the Queen offered Anne titles for her children, we don’t know what they were but could have been princes and princesses (it’s not recorded what was offered) but she refused them. By the archaic rules Edward’s children could have been Prince and Princess, but as he was an earl he decided that he preferred them not to be.

Blossoming Wed 08-Mar-23 20:21:27

Sorry to disappoint you BlueBelle and Casdon but I am correct.

Archaic royal rules mean only the offspring of male royal heirs may pass on their honours, making them princes or princesses.

As such, the Princess Royal's children could not inherit titles, but the Queen did make her daughter an offer, which Princess Anne refused.

Glorianny Wed 08-Mar-23 20:19:38

Apparently they want her to decide for herself if she uses the title when she gets older.I suppose that's reasonable.
If they had refused it could she have reclaimed it if she wanted to?

Urms it is a title. The child's name is Lilibet Diana.

Maybe next they'll decide to drop her first name, and call her...
Oh! Wait... 🤫😐

Smileless2012 Wed 08-Mar-23 19:50:34

Ohmothergrin.

Urmstongran Wed 08-Mar-23 19:47:03

Oh right. Thanks Charleygirl I’m behind the curve on this.
Seems a bit strange as Archie wasn’t titled Prince (if I recall).
Maybe the Sussexes wanted to remind everyone just who is living amongst them in Montecito?

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 08-Mar-23 19:44:34

It’s got Meghan’s fingerprints all over it.

Charleygirl5 Wed 08-Mar-23 19:41:38

Urms it is a title. The child's name is Lilibet Diana.

Urmstongran Wed 08-Mar-23 19:39:46

Is “Princess” just a first name or an actual title?
I suppose all will be revealed in due course. I can wait. 🤷‍♀️

Casdon Wed 08-Mar-23 19:28:59

Blossoming

Anne’s children are not Prince and Princess Casdon. This only used to apply to the children of the monarch’s sons.

That’s not the case. Anne and Edward both chose not to have their children designated as princes and princesses, Andrew did, so his daughters are princesses. That’s why it surprised me, I thought he would not want to do what Andrew did.

Charleygirl5 Wed 08-Mar-23 19:28:25

I am waiting for the day when Parliament make Meghan plain Mrs Windsor by removing the title Duchess. She will not like that- she wants her cake and eat it also.

BlueBelle Wed 08-Mar-23 19:27:24

Anne chose that Blossom as I believe Edward did too whereas Andrew chose to go down the princess route Up to them not us
What I don’t understand is why every time they fart we have to have a thread on it

Calendargirl Wed 08-Mar-23 19:25:02

The Palace website will be updated ‘in due course’ apparently.

Seeing as they made a point of saying when Archie was born that they didn’t want him to have a title….

Oh, of course, his title then was just going to be ‘Earl of Dumbarton’, one of Harry’s ‘spare’ titles.

Doesn’t sound quite as posh as ‘Prince’ of course.
