What I find on here quite often, is a complete disregard for nuance. It is often suggested that, let's say, nobody under 25 can go to prison and anybody aged 16 who wants to change gender can make irreversible decisions.
I find it odd. Its like everything's black or white, there's no in between. Judgement. There is room for judgement.
Nuance? Am I the only one who can see that there is a big difference between an much older man, stalking and violently raping a young teenager and and sexual behaviour within a boy friend/girlfriend relationship where the girl is below the age of consent? BTW The trans person was NOT committed to a Women's prison, only held in a secure unit there until sentenced.
Also the on going 'blame the SNP' rhetoric still being repeated, when it is a FACT that the GRA bill had cross party support in the SG with some members of each party (except the Greens) voting for the bill and some against.
Back in the 60s I left school to start work when I was 15, and paid tax and NI, married at 19 but did not get a vote until I was 21. Where was the 'No Taxation without representation' then?
Although at 15 I had a 4 years older steady boyfriend there was no full sex, unlike 50% of my pals, who had to wait until they were 16 to have a very quiet register office wedding, hopefully before the baby arrived. (Some of these have resulted in long happy marriages. Most have not.) Nature has decreed that many 13 year olds can father, or conceive babies, which means that they may also develop the urge to have sex. Arbitrary, man made Religious, cultural and legal standards can never be set to suit everyone - this is where judgement has to be applied.
