The SNP is in a ‘tremendous mess’ apparently.

Since these two stepped down within weeks of one another the SNP seems to be imploding at a rate of knots.

What on Earth is going on? There is so much in-flighting.

Aveline

22,000 didn't bother to vote. A slim majority of a lower number than it could have been. Not exactly a ringing endorsed. A divided SNP in a divided country. Oh dear. Poor Scotland.

Oh let it rest Aveline. For goodness sake.

Doesn’t matter who’s in charge.
If the people of Scotland want independence they’ll vote for it.
Mickey Mouse could be SNP leader.

Interesting that Hamza Yousaf and Anas Sarwar both attended the fee-paying Hutcheson's Grammar School in Glasgow, then Glasgow University which has a great reputation for political debates.

So that's done and dusted, and the backbiting amongst them will now stop, won't it? I adopt the attitude that the proof will be in the pudding. (Do Scottish people have a special dessert?)

Anyway, on a different matter, I did have to smile at his cute little daughter pulling monkey faces and sticking her tongue out at her dad? Especially as a few on here were very critical of Prince Louis doing similar at the Jubilee. I think we read something like they were disgusted that the royals couldn't raise children who could be relied on in public to behave in a sensible fashion.
So, before Humza (and others) starts laying into King Charles, maybe he too should put his own house in order?

Hamza won 52% to 48%

Unfortunate figures.

Will Scotland or the SNP ever unite behind the 52%?

The fraudulent EU referendum of 2016 resulted in 52% to 48% and, quite apart from the fact that the majority has been in the other direction ever since, the UK is still strongly divided.

Not a good omen for the SNP.

Once in a generation?
Is that 25 years?

volver3 Mon 27-Mar-23 17:19:57

We haven't had one for 9 years. How are you defining "constant"?

Oreo Mon 27-Mar-23 17:15:30

But you won’t get constant referendums in which to decide.

volver3 Mon 27-Mar-23 17:11:28

I'm no spring chicken myself. My parents, both in their eighties, fully supported independence. But the demographics will change, and the desire to be part of the great British state, will wane.

Didn’t you know Aveline is Scottish? Oh dear.

Easy mistake for mcss to make, really.

Not really.

It's fairly obvious to anyone who has been on GN for a while.

The "separatists" (hmm) accept the referendum result. It was no. We'd like another go one day though. When the old "britophiles" have died off, probably

Charming.
Plenty of older people wanting independence, not all older ones supporting the union in any case.

Aveline

I have good reason to have absolutely no respect for SNP or it's members.
Electing Humza must go down in history as a spectacular own goal by them. The 'continuity candidate' for a party its own CE said was in a 'tremendous mess'.
Paddyann remind me - how many times has the Queensferry crossing had to be closed due to faults they hadn't considered?

paddyann is not here so I'll answer.

0 times. It had to be closed 3 times because of ice.

Honestly Aveline, if you would criticise the Scottish government for things they get wrong, I might have more respect for what you say. Blaming them because it gets cold in Scotland in the winter seems a bit churlish. 🙄

Aveline Mon 27-Mar-23 16:46:04

It's OK Callistemon I have no respect for these peoples' opinions. Also it illustrates how divided and bitter Scotland is since the separatists refused to accept the referendum results. Childish really and only to be expected from them.

Callistemon21 Mon 27-Mar-23 16:31:45

My word, Aveline, you're certainly getting a bashing merely for having a different point of view!!

grannypiper Mon 27-Mar-23 16:10:40

Yuseless wins, great news. Best news i have had in years. The snp are finished.

I voted for Humza ,the others had too little experience ,apart from other isssues with Ash !Multicolourswapshop Aveline is a Scot ,but of the variety who believes in "better together" as is her right .
She also under a previous name denied existence of the Queensferry crossing on here ,even AFTER its official opening by the Queen ...lol
Thats how much she hates the SNP or any talk of Independence, she thinks we are "too wee, too poor and too stupid to run our own country
.Unique in the world for our innovations and inventions yet incapable of home rule unlike the rest of the free world
