I think with most people it’s not for a bad reason that they change their user name, it’s because they leave and return, or have a technical problem and get locked out of Gransnet. You can’t rejoin with the same user name, can you?
For people with a very distinctive posting style and strong views it’s impossible to disguise who you are on Gransnet even if you try to, for whatever reason, because there are a limited number of regular posters and you will inevitably be recognised, and some of your more contentious statements will be remembered. That’s both the strength and weakness of this forum. Mumsnet is far more anonymous if that’s what you want.
