Hi 3yrs avoided covid and yesterday we tested positive for covid. Feeling not well at all.

Interestingly I received a letter saying that I qualified under NHS criteria for certain treatments if I caught COVID and a testing kit would follow (which it did) and if I had COVID symptoms to test and advise the NHS COVID team where I presume I would then be directed to wherever for treatment! So it's still out there but I suspect it will eventually become one of the flu variants that is vaccinated against against each year.

So sorry about suffering from COVID. My son came home from work yesterday feeling awful. Today he tested positive for COVID and tells quite a few workers have “flu” so here in St Lucia I would imagine travellers tourists and returners may have brought it. The doctor was more worried about me so I a. Now living away from son downstairs. We are wearing masks again! Such bad luck for anyone who gets it

Just a bit of info about Covid testing kits - Barnardo’s shops are selling kits cheaply. I’m not sure whether that's nationally or just around Greater Manchester.

MaisieD. I don’t think she said that she didn’t understand why numbers were rising bi read it as she didn’t understand why the government were no longer testing when it is rising so much at the moment.

I’ve had the four injections , and Covid three times…. first was mild…..second was bloody awful ….and third was mild.
My husband just decided to hibernate for three years , but still expected feeding and cleaning and me doing it all. Hence my infections and his good health . He thought it was a good idea. Me….not so much!!

In the far East people have always worn masks if they have a cold or other sort of virus out of common courtesy to others. Something we could learn from here. I did actually think that it would become part of our culture too, but sadly overestimated peoples compassion towards others sad.

I also have friends with compromised health, and find some attitudes selfish and misinformed, but covid threads always attract them.
Mostly best not to dignify with a reply but occasionally it’s difficult not to.

What did we do before covid when we felt ill? I can't believe that people are still testing themselves. None of the tests actually determine what ails you. They only pick up the remnants of other viruses, and we carry roughly a couple of pounds in weight of various bacterias and viruses in our gut all the time. Has everyone forgotten what it feels like to have a bad cold or flu? I had a bad cold three weeks ago and I felt like death warmed-up for 4-5 days, trying to drink plenty but not having an appetite which would not have helped make me feel any better. Eventually, it lessened and I'm fine now.

So, can you tell me exactly how I will know if I have a bad, cold, fly or covid? What are the different symptoms to look out for? Oh, I know. I’ll wait till the second week and if I find my condition worsening to the point where I need to call an ambulance* I’ll know it’s covid and I’ve got it bad.
*oh hang on a minute…I’ll be lucky if I can get an ambulance and even luckier if I can get treated without waiting in a corridor for several hours…

Thank you for clarification Marydoll. I think I was being a bit over sensitive. It’s because I have friends whose health is compromised that I do still test, and also because I have asthma, if I get a cough, which I do frequently, I like to be sure it’s not Covid.

What? Really? So you believe that the Covid test doesn’t show when Covid is present, but picks up the remnants of other viruses?
Well, I’ve not heard that one before. I call hogwash on that. (And that is me being extremely polite).

Are you a virologist effalump?

I hope you don’t think I was being selfish Marydoll. I was trying to make the point, perhaps somewhat dryly, to the poster who says there are other things to worry about other than Covid. My point is that Covid is the bigger worry because people who have died aren’t able to worry about anything else.

Maddy, it certainly wasn't you I meant.
It was those, who think it is a government plot to control us all and refuse to test.
The comment, I never test really riled me.

I don't expect anyone to change their lives to protect people like me, who are immunocompromised, just show some common sense, humanity and a little compassion.

The onus is on me to keep myself safe (and of course my clinicians).

Don’t despair Marydoll there are plenty of people who don’t think like this, and the posters who prefer follow their own skewed agenda are in the minority.

But there have been notifiable infectious diseases long before covid happened. Should public health measures be a matter for central government, local authorities, or private conscience?

rosie1959 Fri 31-Mar-23 16:51:47

Covid like all transferable illness needs a bit of good old common sense. If I am not well I stay away from others I still test for covid when I feel just a bit under 100% because my experience tells me that when I have had it I am not particularly unwell. In the same way that I would keep away from others if I had a jippy tummy.
Covid can kill but so can a lot of other things but thanks to the vacinne the majority even if they feel very unwell do not end up in hospital or worse.
Pretty sure the tests still work regardless but not all nasty viruses are Covid others are available.
I personally now only want a yearly booster but that's fine I don't come in the age group being called more often.
Covid will never now be over but like other viruses it will flucuate
As for state control that's tin hat stuff

Marydoll Fri 31-Mar-23 16:43:38

It makes me despair that there are so many selfish posters on here.

I lost a friend to Covid, she had been sheilding, but she caught it in a hospital waiting room, along with others who were there.

maddyone Fri 31-Mar-23 16:27:57

Covid can kill!

maddyone Fri 31-Mar-23 16:27:35

I don’t suppose anyone who’s dead is worrying about the cost of living!

I still have the NHS app on my phone. Now received notification it’s being discontinued from the end of April.

Of course it’s being discontinued 25Avalon. It was only an experiment to see how gullible people are.
We didn’t test for flu before Covid, yet many people died of it. Can remember the NHS being on their knees each winter because of the flu.
Plus people didn’t wear a mask when it was Flu season.
And it seems it’s the vaccinated that are becoming ill. Jabs working well then!!!!!

Eeejit!! Selfish and ignorant behaviour!

My God with people like you no wonder disease proliferates - how about some care for others rather than yourself - Flu and particularly covid can KILL. How old are you? Bet you are younger than a lot of us!

Hi 3yrs avoided covid and yesterday we tested positive for covid. Feeling not well at all.

Why were you testing? Because of vulnerable people where you work?

WHY NOT TEST? It’s a nasty illness that can cause Death!
Better to know what you have and treat it accordingly knowing it can be dangerous - let alone the danger to others!
If you came out in s red trash all over wouldn’t you want to know what it was - I don’t understand your question - it’s just common sense particularly if you or anyone near you is vulnerable .

crazygranmda Fri 31-Mar-23 15:56:03

Songstress the ambulance staff certainly didn't think my DH had flu when they transported him to A&E! I wouldn't wish the experience on anyone. Just consider yourself fortunate!

State control! Yeah, of course the state, most governments in fact, deliberately crippled their economies in the fight against Covid.
But okay, just you do that then. Ignore it and get on with life. Though I’m pretty sure you won’t be worrying too much about the cost living if you can’t get out of bed for three weeks because you’re so poorly.
Not everyone gets off lightly.
And anyway, most of us are well enough informed and have sufficient brain cells left to be able to worry about more than one topic at a time. Goodness knows there’s enough choice.
