Off to Lake Bassenthwaite with two old friends, like we used to do. Stop off at Tebay for coffee and cake, then on to cottage in Cockermouth. Potter round the lovely little shops, buy a nice book in the bookshop. Meal out at night at the little pub ten minutes walk from cottage, then off to bed. My dream!

I go to my happy place. Sitting on the grassy shore, looking across the sea to Great Cumbrae on the west coast of Scotland. It is a beautiful warm day and I'm enjoying the view.

If I can’t sleep, or troubled, I take myself on a remembered happy journey.
One is the steam train from Port Erin in the Isle of Man into Douglas, then the open tram along the coastline to Ramsey in the north of the island. I potter around Ramsey, then make the return journey.
Another is greeting my childless aunt and godmother from the bus in Oxford after traveling down from the north (all day on my own as a kid), then ice cream with her and the journey to her village near Banbury on a beautiful summers day.

Do you have a journey you retrace and where do you go?
