Thanks Marydoll and FannyC. I’m having a good life but have faced and continue to face difficulties and challenges. ‘Getting on with it’ is something many of us were brought up to do. It’s not always easy but it can help us deal with the cards as they fall

Funnily enough though Kitty, I do actually think of you as a typical GNetter, as you were one of the first people I properly ‘spoke’ to on here (we got a bit over excited about The Hollow ).
It was you, Marydoll, Maw and Lucca.
All of you have influenced what I think of the typical GN woman. And what a diverse bunch you are really (but teaching and a fondness for Italy definitely features)

Does anyone think of themselves as a "typical" Gransnetter? I certainly don't, unless you restrict it to female, over 50, and with Grandchildren, but I don't think that's what you mean, as you're clearly referring to shared life experiences. As for the idea of some being "unfortunate" whilst you are "fortunate", that's also a very subjective judgement, as "into every life a little rain must fall", so where do you make the cut-off? Infinite variables apply, so "typical" doesn't really feature in any meaningful sense, other than within the very limited parameters I've described.

I'm not a typical gransnetter. We had 5 children, have 9 grandchildren and I have not had paid employment for almost 53 years.

Fanny's description doesn't fit me at all.

But, I have experienced loss, sadness, pain, estrangement, joy, happiness, success - all the usual things. That makes me a typical gransnetter.

My personality is such that I look on the bright side - so on balance, I feel fortunate. Others in my circumstances may feel they have been unfortunate.

Well I m about as untypical as you can get then if we re going by Fanny’s list !!
