It occurs to me that no families of the younger generation appear to have nailbrushes. Am I alone in owning one, even though it's not in daily use?

Superdrug and boots do them i think i got a couple a few months back. Some supermarkets still do them in home section.Dont know why you could not find any Blondiescot.

That was a wee while ago, but honestly I looked in so many different places and couldn't find any. Funnily enough though, my FiL, who is in a care home now, requested one just today and I've just come back from Home Bargains, where they had lots, for the princely sum of 39p each!

I trained as a nurse when hygiene was paramount, wards maids took a great pride in keeping their ward in pristine condition. We used nail brushes on patients with extremely dirty fingernails.
Present day, nail brushes would be bottom of the risk of infection list re the lack of hygiene which I have witnessed in hospitals now. Oh the irony!

We have them at home and at work. I think you just know young people without nail brushes 😂

We still have one in each bathroom, but rarely use them except after gardening.

Good tip, Yammy.

Another user here.

It seems to be the older generation that use them most.

Same as lixy, wooden nail brushes. Very cheap here. I paid 35p each for them from home bargains. I bought 10 and gave them out. All converts now. Apparently they are not in plain sight. The grandkids love them, not so much the soap.

I occasionally use a nailbrush. He's a little round turtle - with the brush as feet - I bought for my toddlers' nails. The toddlers are now 34 and 31. The turtle is still as chirpy and effective as ever.

Yes gardener here and used to be evenings at bridge club so need to keep hands smart. I would see them in Poundshop and Tiger shop. Yes take on hols with a small bar of soap as wash things out to reduce packing.

I have one by each basin & in the shower, looked locally and could only find plastic ones.

Nannapat1 Wed 12-Apr-23 15:52:48

We have a nailbrush at each handbasin and use them! I even take one on holiday with me.

I had to buy a couple of nailbrushes for DD and SiL, having found none in their house after I'd been doing some gardening for them. (They don't garden apart from mowing their patch, I find it a bit sad.)

The Housekeeper at the school I worked at a few years ago placed nailbrushes at each washbasin in the girls’ toilets. During a Health and Safety inspection by the local Council, she was told to remove them as they were unhygienic.

I have and use them. Little novelty ones in the bathrooms and a plain old standard one at the kitchen sink. When I see those females with inch long nails on tv I do wonder how on earth they keep them clean. Can't imagine them using a nail brush on them.

Use nailbrushes all the time. Couldn't find them in Boots last time. Will now look on line.

Casdon
I use gardening gloves. I am a clean person with extremely clean fingers nails you will have to take my word on this.
Nail brushes are in my opinion pretty much unnecessary.

How else do you clean your nails after gardening?
I needed a new nailbrush and for various reasons could not go into the local shops at the time. Happened to mention it casually when talking to daughter on phone ( She lives 200 miles away).
After a few days a package plopped through the letter box fom Amazon - not one, but two tiny brushes popped out. One blue and one pink, each about 5cm long and 2cm wide, obviously intended for dolls. I thanked my daughter - for the thought!! They went with the next donations to the charity shop!

I have one on the bathroom sink all the time and use it on my nails every time I wash my hands, I use it with soap and rinse thoroughly so it stays clean. I always have a brand new one on standby as well grin

When lockdown landed on us in March 2020 I remember a degree of panic hitting us when we realised that Waitrose (which was home delivering to us) didn't sell nailbrushes. For some reason it seemed to be an urgent need at the time and we were at a loss as to how to source one. We have laughed about it since, particularly as neither of us is much of a nailbrush user, apart from DH occasionally after gardening.

I’ve got one in kitchen and one in each bathroom. I also have one in toilet bag for travelling. Can’t abide dirty nails!

BStP Wed 12-Apr-23 13:44:02

I have one I use most days especially after gardening but younger generation don't seem to have them or get their hands as mucky as mine in the soil

Azalea99 Wed 12-Apr-23 13:43:31

Likewise after gardening they’re essential, & no I don’t remember seeing any in AC’s homes. Mine go in the dishwasher for cleaning

Nanadude Wed 12-Apr-23 13:39:31

I bought my g'children nailbrushes (found on Amazon) when I got tired of seeing their grubby little hands, and knowing what lurks beneath those fingernails. I do believe children should be exposed to bacteria, etc and that playing in the dirt is good for them . I just thought the dirt should occasionally be diluted.
They used them for a while until the novelty wore off.

NannaFirework Wed 12-Apr-23 13:34:42

It’s good hygiene to use a nail brush !

Amalegra Wed 12-Apr-23 13:32:25

I have always used a nail brush, essential if you want clean nails, especially if the nails are long like mine (I do love a good manicure even if mostly DIY!). and when the brush gets a little tatty I replace it and use the old one for scrubbing small areas of clothing like collars and cuffs which can get rather dirty and which machine washing doesn’t seem to clean properly. Great for trainers too. In fact just this morning I attacked a messy tracksuit belonging to my three year old granddaughter-items like these are often handed to me to rid them of stains ( my adult children's clothes also) They call it ‘Nana’s magic touch’! No magic at all just a bit of care and attention! So nail brushes are a necessary and multi use item for me.
