Nailbrushes - a thing of the past?

It occurs to me that no families of the younger generation appear to have nailbrushes. Am I alone in owning one, even though it's not in daily use?

We keep nail brushes in our bathrooms and use them every day. Also pack them when going on holiday. I’m also a gardener and hate dirty nails. I don’t have any trouble finding them when they need to be replaced.

I use mine often. I don't like to wear rubber gloves ..the hassle of getting them on mainly, so I have to use a nail brush, especially after repotting plants.
My daughter doesn't own one.

Funnily enough, my husband was recently asked to supply some for one of his clients (he runs a cleaning company) and we couldn't find any anywhere. We eventually had to order some online.

I buy them regularly, they have them in Dunelm and also in SuperDrug.

*their, not they're

For this reason I absolutely HATE it when ordering a drink, hot or cold and it's given to you by the server holding onto the rim of the glass/cup.
Why ????? God only knows where they're fingers have been and anything left on the side/rim immediately gets transferred to the mouth.
Nasty habit. USE THE HANDLE people or hols the receptacle further down!
Rant over

Bars of soap I hope are also a thing of the past at least in my house they are so unhygienic yuck

How can a bar of soap be unhygienic? It's the soap that kills the germs when you're washing your hands, so germs surely can't survive on them. They do get dirty, admittedly, especially when a five-year-old has just used it, but that can be rubbed off.

I have gone back to bars of soap to reduce plastic. They are sold in paper or cardboard boxes and when they're gone, they're gone and there's nothing to throw away.

I was going to ask how can a thread about nsilbrushes reach 109 posts?

But then I saw this post and wondered, too, how soap can be unhygienic?

Bars of soap here too.
I was once given a kit to make soap from scratch - that was fun and the soap lasted for ages. Now I buy it though.

My late husband was never fastidious as suggested by one post but the blue rubber gloves did the trick they never burst nor did he get dirt under his nails

I wear latex gloves under a pair of gardening gloves and still need to use a nailbrush.

My husband always used rubber gloves for gardening he never got his nails dirty

That doesn’t work for me at all multicolourswapshop, when I pull a plant out or put my hand into the soil to do something, the soil gets into the glove from the top, makes it’s way down to the finger ends and my nails get dirty. If anything I find rubber gloves the worst because they don’t grip your wrists, and then ride down whilst you’re working. Your husband must have been an extremely fastidious gardener.

They are essentials in our house. Not sure about daughters/grandchildren but how else do they clean their nails properly?

Before gardening (which I do a lot of) I scrape my nails along a block of soap, and afterwards wash my hands in hot water and nails are clean.

I have nail brushes at every washbasin and use them nearly every time I was wash hands, not just for my nails but on my fingers too. I stayed with my son recently and remarked on the absence of a nail brush and was told they never need to use one, then I saw his wife come in from pulling some carrots out of the ground, and she picked up the washing up brush to scrub the earth from her hands and nails. - ugh!!!!

Yes have one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen, use them after guddling around in the polytunnel and getting soot off my hands after cleaning the fire. Wouldn't be without them.

Bodycare have some nail brushes and flannels , nail files and generic medicines and Ibuprofen gel. All much cheaper than the multiple high street pharmacy.

Always need one after gardening and hubby often uses one too.

I scrape some soap under my nails before gardening and then, when you wash your hands and scrub your nails afterwards the soap washes out with the dirt.

You can buy them at Wilko…. AND any chemist . And I always use one especially after gardening . Weird thing about clocks …. my daughter hadn’t a clock in house or my son in law hadn’t either….. I love clocks and have one in every room.

I always used to keep one in the downstairs loo, goodness knows where it’s gone though! I do like clean nails.

I have nail brush in bathroom and kitchen.

Dd also has nailbrush in bathroom and gsons use it, one is 16 yrs other 8 yrs (thats the gsons not the nail brush) smile

DH always has a nail brush on the go but is particularly vigorous at brushing his nails so they never last long. I recently went in search of a new brush and ended up having to get one shaped like a chicken from Savers. It's far to small for him but he actually quite likes it.

Washerwoman Wed 12-Apr-23 19:32:59

We have one in each bathroom and one in our utility room. All wooden ones from the body shop.I use them all the time as always gardening. Although I have gardening gloves and wear them for heavy duty jobs I find them annoying after a while.Ans actually don't mind getting soil under my nails.
