Varian’s thread on the average gransnetter led to a few posters outing themselves as Daily Mail readers. One poster also reads the Guardian. I too am Spartacus. I read the DM on line. I buy the Guardian. That’s two of us šŸ˜

I would read the Times, Guardian etc. I do occasionally as at least can see headlines.
But they are behind paywalls. So not paying.
I think the DM must be generous or something.

The Guardian is emphatically not behind a paywall, which you would know if you had, actually, tried to read it online.

a. do not accuse me of lying. I dont ly. Dont even know how to spell the word. I have not lied since I was 5.
{But I am learning how you react, so I assume I waste my breath].

We all know about subliminal messaging MayBee70.
We weren't born yesterday.

Then why was I accused of implying that someone lacked intelligence by reading it?

Not sure- but one would assume that if someone chooses to read it regularly, it is because they support the stance that it takes on many things- and on foreigners and EU in particular? No?

Perhaps yes.

Which is different from being neutral and being influenced by subliminal messaging/advertising.

A lot of people are just snobs about the DM but they are too dim to realise that a lot of their reporting comes from papers and medical organisations that they WOULD like to be associated with.

But not too dim to understand that the DM takes a news story and puts it own spin on it.

So don’t read it then!

Millions of people read the DM so I don’t think you will be missed.

I worry about how propaganda is affecting our society.

Especially when I read the comments from some Grans.

No it doesn't. It tells you how well you are doing at reading lots of Guardian articles.

It does tell you off if you read too many articles

Tackle whoever it was.

Then why did you reply to my comment then confused?

I read the Daily Mail and I couldn’t care less what people think about it. I also read the Telegraph and the Sun online occasionally. There’s times when I might look at the Express. I have been known to read the Guardian online too. I’m subliminally influenced by Sky news and the BBC. In short, I’m subliminally influenced and totally confused. And if you believe that, you’ll believe anything. Honestly !!

I read daily mail online.

Who cares who knows. I dont.

There are so many rules in life already, that I dont succumb to society ones if I dont want to.
Life is too short and all that.

I read several papers on line including, quite often, the DM.
I always liked the Sunday colour supplement. I like the Femail section and some of the recipes and foodie section are great. The Money section is very informative and current.

A lot of people are just snobs about the DM but they are too dim to realise that a lot of their reporting comes from papers and medical organisations that they WOULD like to be associated with.

The DM have launched some huge campaigns and fought for justice for people but the snobs prefer to ignore this.

One of the best books I ever read was by former editor of DM, Martin Townsend. It was about his father who had serious mental health problems which blighted all their lives while he was growing up on a council estate. It was totally engrossing and honest and is one of the few books I never passed on to charity. He emailed me personally to thank me for my comments about the book.

They are certainly worried that many of its readers are easily led- as has been shown very clearly recently, and for quite some time.

Who is worried about easily led readers?

I heard a radio piece several months ago that suggested the DM uses focus groups to identify its readers views on key issues, their leaders are aimed to please those people. Listen to radio phone in and hear many people supporting the Rwanda plan. I expect their political views don’t really need the DM influence.

Is this the load of rubbish you’re referring to ?

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11964189/Kyiv-compares-Russia-ISIS-sickening-video-Putins-soldiers-beheading-Ukrainian-POW.html

I haven't looked at the link but it has been reported in many news outlets worldwide, including The Guardian, some with videos too.

Anyone who thinks this is DM propaganda showing gratuitous violence and doesn't find this sickening needs to do some further investigations.

The UN is appalled as should be any right-minded person.

But it portrays itself as a newspaper. And by getting people to read it for other things it subliminally brainwashes people into absorbing lies.

Implying yet again that folks who read the DM are unable to think for themselves.

It’s good to read a variety of newspapers, it is equally as important to watch different news programmes.

If we only read/watch one which suits our political leanings how on earth are we supposed to know what other opinions/views are?

Subliminal messaging has nothing to do with anyone’s intelligence and I didn’t say that it did. Once a seed has been planted in someone’s mind it remains there. That’s how advertising etc works.

I am beginning to wonder about all those who allegedly do not/will not read the DM due to its subliminal mind altering abilities, are they worried that they will be easily led?

Last time I told someone to "grow up" I got deleted, so I won't do that again.

Of the cap fits etc….

Iam64 Wed 12-Apr-23 16:44:54

I agree with GrannyGravy, it’s good to read a variety of news. I like the feel of a newspaper. I’m a life long Guardian reader, though I grew up in a daily Mail reading home.

I’ve become increasingly disenchanted with the guardian as good female columnists gave left and Owen Jones remains. His contributions are the mirror image of the DM opinion piece journalists - heavily slanted with no analysis. I read the times or telegraph on holiday, if no Guardian available. I wouldn’t buy the DM

I do wonder if the DM stopped printing for several months, whether our country would be a less Outraged more tolerant place
