The person you dreamed of marrying

Whom did you dream of marrying when very young?

At the age of four, having discovered that my dad was not available (already married to my mum!), I decided Bing Crosby was the man for me. I now realise it was because he looked a lot like my dad.

Problem not a bad choice - could have been a lot worse.

I had a college boyfriend who I adored. Became pregnant, left college and never saw him again. My lovely son is in his mid 50’s now. I married when he was 14. My beautiful husband died 2 years ago. I couldn’t have had a more wonderful life with him and regret nothing. I never revealed/mentioned my son’s father to anyone. But, do you know, I still think about him. And still love him.

grin Maybe we need a separate Paul McCartney thread!

Oh come on, he is still gorgeous, you don’t get to be eighty without a few wrinkles and crinkles.

Who - my DH?

Yes, he is 😁

I don’t think Paul McCartney has aged particularly well. He’s very jowly. Give him a typical old man’s haircut and clothes and you wouldn’t give him a second look.

Although his hair ages him.
It needs a good trim to make it look thicker
I was going to say jowly but thought I'd get jumped on even more 😁

What are typical old men's clothes, I wonder?
Just glancing at my old man, he looks like a tramp today.

Donny Osmond sigh

I've met him a couple of times briefly, and he's still rather lovely.

Well I suppose that's the point isn't it? He hasn't got the old man's haircut and clothes. As Clint Eastwood said recently when asked how he is still working at 90 or however old he is 'I don't let the old man in'.

Quite right Callistemon. Of course no one is going to post a pic but I'm very curious.

I only know a couple of 80 year old men. They are not in good nick bless em. Both very overweight, slow moving using sticks. I realise famous people can afford the best care, food etc.

If anyone has a partner who looks better than Paul McCartney at 80 I'd love to see a pic.

As if anyone is going to post a photo of their partner on GN!

Thinking of the 80+ year olds I know/ knew, yes, I can think of a few. I'm not saying Paul McCartney is not lovely, just that he hasn't aged as well as some men his age.

Dr Finlay (Bill Simpson) of Dr Finlay's Casebook series in the 1950s - 60s. I also had quite a crush on my young GP and one of the young doctors in Emergency Ward 10. What was it about doctors?

Was the Emergency Ward 10 doctor Chris Anderson? I don’t know the name of the actor but very dishy as I recall.

I’ll join the queue for Paul McCartney! I think he has aged well ( and I’m so glad he’s got rid of the purple hair), but I think he is looking far too thin.

As a young teenager and being Welsh, I dreamed of marrying someone who played rugby and also wrote poetry. After a dreadful first marriage, I eventually met someone coincidentally who'd played rugby in his youth and who did write me a beautiful poem, just the one. He also wrote some fiithy ditties in my birthday cards, think that was the rugby coming through. Been very happily married for 31 years now and only hiccups have been when Wales play England. So my dream did eventually come true.

I always wanted to marry Mr Spock

Janiepops Sun 16-Apr-23 23:22:59

Sounds bonkers now but had a huge crush on Herbert Lom when I was about 10,11,12.
Then Lorne Green from Bonanza , I wanted to be the wife in the Wild West!

NorthowramGran Sun 16-Apr-23 22:05:19

Steven Green. Two years above me at school and he never even knew I existed. Then a few years later the DH offered me a seat on his knee in a crowded bar and 52 years later we’re still muddling through together.

Ps I did love Paul McCartney when I was 17 and I'm sure he's as lovely a person as ever but .....

Paul McCartney hasn’t aged well? Wow! He’s as slim as he ever was. He has lots of hair and his teeth look like his own. He’s not hugely wrinkly. No paunch. He still writes music, produces it and performs it. He has all his marbles. He is 80! I don’t think you are looking at Paul McCartney at all! He’s still fab.

Well, I stand by what I said.

But, to be fair, and well done to Paul, he doesn't look as if he's had a facelift.
😀

Grannybags

I didn't dream of marrying anyone. The last thing I wanted was a husband, mortgage and children.

Ended up with all of the above and it wasn't as bad as I thought!

Same here Grannybags. Unfortunately it was all as bad as I thought!
