The person you dreamed of marrying

Whom did you dream of marrying when very young?

At the age of four, having discovered that my dad was not available (already married to my mum!), I decided Bing Crosby was the man for me. I now realise it was because he looked a lot like my dad.

Problem not a bad choice - could have been a lot worse.

Another Clint Eastwood crush here! At 15 I was going out with someone who looked just like him ( at least I thought so) but without the hat. No I didn’t marry him

Alan Rickman, blooming autocorrect!

Alan Rickmansworth would have suited me, a bit of rough.

There has been a photo circulating recently of Paul Newman and Robert Redford as young men in Butch Cassidy. Either would have suited me!!

Marriage? Not a subject that really figured when I was a child, and even as a teenager during the 60's I was much more interested in fashion and music, although yes, I did have boyfriends. Then at 22, "across a crowded room", there he was.. and 54 years later, there he still is!

Michael J Pollard, for some strange reason! I first saw him in Lost in Space, and then Bonnie and Clyde. Love at first sight confused

I always looked up to my dad nice looking tall strong and dependable. I liked the look of David Janssen born (David Harold Meyer) I thought he was gorgeous. I wasn’t thinking of marriage as I was only about eleven at the time.

I see I’m agreeing with callistemon when I meant to agree with Kate.
He is eighty, still got it though as far as I’m concerned.
Damaskrose
Andy Fairweather Low would be a close second, so cute

Well Callistemon I'm 73 and very well worn!

I never even thought of being married, it sounded boring and a bit stifling tbh and it was for old people ( 30!) or so I thought.
Never wanted kids either or wanted to play with dolls.
Having had two DD’s discovered kids are wonderful.Husbands less so.
Found happiness with DP thankfully.

Lucky you then Callistemon

I just think Paul looks a bit well-worn 😀

Andy Fairweather Low of Amen Corner. And later on I did quite fancy marrying Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall. Can you see a pattern emerging? 😂

I was taken to the cinema for my 11th birthday to see Cliff Richard in Summer Holiday. I decided he was the one for me and put his poster on my bedroom wall. My Grandmother saw it and said I couldn’t possibly marry him as one of his parents was Indian. Of course this was a long time ago and unfortunately some people had such views. Apart from that she was a wonderful person.

Clint Eastwood as Rowdy Yates. 😍

I agree, watching him last year at Glastonbury, I thought he was amazing, I’m still in love with him

I was never bothered about getting married and I used to shudder when girlfriends discussed bottom drawers and wedding dresses.

My first boyfriend told me he wanted to marry me and I finished with him. Another boyfriend’s Mum used to hang her daughter’s wedding dress in my room when I slept over. All they talked about was weddings so that ended too.

Then I met someone who I actually considered marrying (when he asked me obviously) but it’s a good job I didn’t because he is on his 4th marriage now. He is on TV quite often and is in the field of sports, that’s all I’m saying but he has worn well.

I think Paul has aged wonderfully well. I don't know many 80 year olds who look that good.

I suppose I'm comparing him to my DH 😀

I knew a particularly awful boy (he was a little smelly) when I was 11, I said at that I would never marry a boy with his surname and I wanted a tall husband.

I have the surname and my husband was the same height as me when we married but I’ve now shrunk.

crazyH. Noooo, not Donny Osmond. He was mine!

Hellogirl1 Thu 13-Apr-23 17:58:27

For several years, from age 14 onwards, I was besotted with Huw Thomas, the ITN newsreader, and was sure that if we met up we`d marry. Unfortunately, some other woman got there first!

Kim19 Thu 13-Apr-23 17:57:48

I tried to avoid marriage at all costs and then this super guy hook line and sinkered me (thank goodness). 👍

And before downtoearth makes her claim, in 1968 I was intent on marrying Steve Ellis of Love Affair, and if he wasn't available Steve McQueen!
