The person you dreamed of marrying

Whom did you dream of marrying when very young?

At the age of four, having discovered that my dad was not available (already married to my mum!), I decided Bing Crosby was the man for me. I now realise it was because he looked a lot like my dad.

Problem not a bad choice - could have been a lot worse.

You wanted to marry Dick van Dyke?

Never had any desire to get married and really didn't understand the point of playing with baby dolls.

Quite rightly. Although I did get married and have a baby, I didn't find domesticity satisfying at all. Professional life however, much more fulfilling.

Dick van Dyke, and later Gene Wilder.

I wanted to marry David Cassidy or Donny Osmond! Hey ho that didn’t happen.

David McCallum, from ‘The Man From Uncle.’ Physically he was the absolute opposite of the man I did marry. And that didn’t end well.

Same with me and George Sara. My family say 'Your George'. I wish

Another Paul McCartney here, absolutely besotted with him.
My husband still teases me about him, and I tell him he’s very much second choice, my grandchildren think I’m nuts.

David Cassidy for me too mrsgreenfingers56. I can still picture the poster I had of him on my wall.

I was besotted with Clint Eastwood in my early teens. I would have married him.

I was too - at 12 or so I fell in love with Rowdy Yates (Rawhide).

However I went right off him a few decades ago, after some terrorist incident (possibly 9/11) when he cried off some engagement in London - IIRC a premiere - the tough guy of so many films, too chicken to get on a plane!

It struck me particularly at the time because an American BiL had not long died and dh and I didn’t think twice about joining my sister near Boston, for an event to celebrate his work in making documentary films.

From a real life POV there was never anyone but dh who I wanted to marry - he turned out to be a good choice!

Tweedle24 - is that what little girls really do (dream of getting married)? I was never, ever getting married - and didn't have a crush on anyone either (so found it hilarious that my friends did).

Still, |I was nagged into it - twice!

Only because Dad asked whom I would marry. Probably until then I had not thought about it. I have said it did not last long.

I think Paul has aged wonderfully well. I don't know many 80 year olds who look that good.

Paul McCartney, when I was about 13.

Well, I claimed him first, then along came Jane Asher.

Looking at him now, he hasn't aged that well.

Well, we're all different. I see a quite fit slim man, full head of hair who can still rock it in concerts - he's great fun to view on stage.

David Cassidy, was so in love with him!

Roger Moore for me as well MrsNemo that eyebrow smile

No thoughts of marriage but I had a crush on Fred MacMurray as he seemed so kind, unlike living with my DF which was like living with Vesuvio, always on the edge of erupting.

Blondiescot Thu 13-Apr-23 15:53:37

You and me both, Esmay - the horses/stables that is! Those were my dreams too.

Susiewakie Thu 13-Apr-23 15:49:04

A real coincidence.

At the risk of being a bore as I have told this story before, when I was about 15 ish I had a boyfriend who I was mad about. It was in my Catholic days and I used to pray every night 'Please God let me marry ...... ' and say his name. It wasn't a particularly common name. I didn't marry him but my now husband of 54 years has exactly the same name.

Ooh, that's a lovely story! grin

My dentist, who lived next door -but-one and always waved when he walked past.
He was 25 and I was 5.

Dickens

Peter O'Toole, but someone beat me to it.

Having looked at photo's and articles about him in later life, I'm rather glad she did. grin

Did you see the programme about him on Sky Arts yesterday?

Callistemon21 Thu 13-Apr-23 15:32:42

I fell in love with Dirk Bogarde in my early teens. The passion lasted for some time.
