The person you dreamed of marrying

Whom did you dream of marrying when very young?

At the age of four, having discovered that my dad was not available (already married to my mum!), I decided Bing Crosby was the man for me. I now realise it was because he looked a lot like my dad.

Problem not a bad choice - could have been a lot worse.

I had a college boyfriend who I adored. Became pregnant, left college and never saw him again. My lovely son is in his mid 50’s now. I married when he was 14. My beautiful husband died 2 years ago. I couldn’t have had a more wonderful life with him and regret nothing. I never revealed/mentioned my son’s father to anyone. But, do you know, I still think about him. And still love him.

Clint Eastwood has aged much better I think. Sorry, Paul is no longer my idea of gorgeous.

I’m sure he’s gorgeous too

GSM quite agree re Paul MacCartney. Though I never did like him anyway. Still stick to the man I loved years ago and not some musician or film star.

When you have been in love with a man since you were ten, you can’t just cast him aside, he’ll always be gorgeous to me.

Same as me and George Sara. I won't hear a word against him smile

Hah, funny that you said that of Paul McCartny. I agree with you. He’s a little on the skinny side which makes him look that way.
You know who’s aged well? Someone like Harrison Ford, wrinkles and all. He still looks manly. He doesn’t color his hair and does not look like a skinny vegan.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 17-Apr-23 18:23:29

No, Harrison Ford isn’t for me. Always looks so miserable!

I won't tell him, he might wonder what I'm after!

I didn’t dream of marrying anyone!

Then subsequently married twice.

Steve Marriott of the Small Faces, absolutely besotted with him at 13

I never intended to get married, or to have children, though I ended up doing both

Mr R is so rude about Paul McCartney because he knows that he was my favourite Beatle. Well I went off him a bit (Paul) when he had a very dodgy hair dye going on but NOW I agree that he looks very good for his age and I loved watching him at Glastonbury last year ... the only thing that spoiled it was old jealous bobbins muttering away in the background!
But I have to say that Mr R is 79 and still looks good!

AGAA4, Ooooh yeah, deffo Clint Eastwood. He was such a handsome man back in the day, and those legs - ha, eat yer heart out Barbie, his were natural AND long!!

My thoughts were get married at 40, have kids, divorce him and let him bring the kids up - I was a tomboy and not at all into the thought of being married and be told what to do by a man!
I met a lovely, had 2 DC but we never married. Split up, stayed friendly, met another man and married him - against my better judgement as I'd never felt like the marrying type - split up after 2 years, got back together and split up again within 2 months, been separated ever since and that's about 11 years now!
I'll get a divorce when I can afford one as I know he'll never do it, he's already said he'd take me back as soon as I want, which is never going to happen!!

A boyfriend I had way back but he broke up with me I married DH who is a good man and wonderful father. We have had a long and happy marriage. Coming from a small town I still see ex boyfriend unfortunately the butterflies in my tummy still appear.

Oh, AJgranma so sorry you went through that…

At around 12, Donny Osmond, David Curtis or Tony Curtis. The Persuaders series was on tv locally - my school friends all liked Roger Moore, I loved Tony Curtis..those blue eyes…wait a minute he looked just like my father.

Married twice, divorced twice and happy in my own company….

Ooops, David Cassidy..

David McCallum (the Invisible man) for me but not to the extent that I dreamt of marrying him.

In my earlier twenties, my best friend was a guy. I did not know this but he rather fancied me but he told me he changed his mind because I was as cold as a fish ha ha.

Just imagine if I were to marry him, I will have to learn to cook Chinese food and will be cooking laksa or dim sum instead of jam roly poly this afternoon.

As a young child I wanted to marry Davy Jones from The Monkees.

During a conversation at work today regarding the Coronation, I was reminded how much I loved Prince Charles, I thought he was gorgeous, I still love him, just not in the same way, and I never thought about marrying him obviously!

Wasn’t David McCallum The Man from Uncle?

Many many years ago when I was about 14, my next down cousin was 6, my younger cousin 4, (sister and brother )we played a game as to who we were going to marry! Me, it was the Shah of Persia, ( he was SO glamorous,) my next down cousin it was Prince Charles, my younger cousin it was ME!! None of this of course happened, my elder cousin married an Australian and moved there in 1974, I married into the RN, my younger cousin was gay and so didn't marry me or anyone else. Sadly he died of cancer aged 52. I was devastated.

Robert Horton - but only because I really liked his horse Topaz. Why can I remember the name of Robert Horton's horse but only two of the three things I went to the shop for? I suppose two out of three ain't bad.

Because he was in California and I never expected to ever leave England I didn't intend to marry, but live in a cottage in the woods on my own with chickens and goats and make jam and herby things.

Then I grew up.
