New kitchen

We're having a new kitchen and I've chosen glossy white drawers and cupboards with matte black worktops. My only dilemma is what colour tiles to go with this combination. I originally thought black, but our kitchen fitter has advised against this as it would be too dark. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks.

Marbled white or grey.

Colour can be added with blinds, flowers and appliances, and changed when you feel the need.

How about no tiles? Upstands, paint and splash-backs behind cooker.

I don't have tiles in my kitchen, but a glass, blue coloured splashback.

No tiles here ! Corian worktops that sweep up the wall - perfect! Colourful glass splash backs behind gas hob that are easy to move and clean .

If I were having a new kitchen I wouldn't have tiles just, as already mentioned, glass thingies behind hob and sink.

I have a granite splash back to match the worktops. It works well and is quick and easy to clean. The coloured glass ones are very attractive too, and I imagine equally easy to keep looking good. I had always had tiles in the past but they, especially the grout, take much more effort to keep clean. I wouldn’t have them again.

Except navy blue, all colours match with black and white

Just a note to say ,from experience, I wouldn’t have Matte black worktops, they eventually go dull and lighter coloured.

We have cream cupboards with black granite worktops, inherited from previous owner. We painted all the walls white and the tiles too which are only behind hob and above sink. Before it looked very drab and dreary but now it’s a lot brighter. We avoid fully tiled walls and, in fact, have just had all the tiles removed from a fully tiled bathroom. They can date whereas paint can be changed.

Thanks everyone. Maybe no tiles at all then.

White tiles are lovely with light grey grout looks marvelous. Tile is easiest to clean by quite a bit.

We had tile, not as dark as it looks, three years ago when the kitchen was redone. Very happy with it, but MrJ is a ceramic tiler! Floor, not done here, was Karndean.

No tiles for me too but obviously that's a personal choice. In my previous house we had silestone (quartz) work surfaces and a matching splash back in that material behind the hob, but I didn't opt for tiles or wall units. I prefer the pull out larders. Now we have the hob set into a long island unit. We don't have tiles in the kitchen only in the utility room.

Good luck with your kitchen planning OP whatever you decide on.

White cupboards, white tile, grey grout, add your colour of (black?) work top.

I like the look of tiles best, and would go for lime green with the black and white kitchen, or if you like playing safe then pale grey.
