Good morning Mick and all from a cloudy Glasgow.

I'm a bit later today, my energy levels have taken a dip after a very full on week. I'm struggling just now. What happened to the advice to pace myself? Do you remember the ten spoons advice, that has increased to at least thirty. Someone should advise Dollie that her gran is no longer seven years old!
My spirit is extremely willing, but my body won't do as asked, its such a pain. 😉
Susan, I hope your DD improves and you get a chance to rest.

It's good to hear you had a lovely birthday GM, you sound more settled.

We are off to see Babydoll, but first I need to finish off the Mars Bar cake (their favourite) for the new parents. DD found out and has requested some. I didn't have enough ingredients for the larger amount, so it is a cocktail of anything lurking in my sweetie stash.

Im sorry to hear about those with Covid, a bit concerning for me, as immunocompromised. It's strange, Our surgery stopped the obligatory mask wearing this week, as did the maternity
hospital.

Have a good day folks, especially if you have plans with family. Sending best wishes to all the poorlies and Mick, enjoy reminiscing.

Good morning from a dry Co Durham.
Karmalady, I’ll join you with the Archers, if I may 😀
Georgesgran, what a beautiful view from your window , the trees have more leaves than those here.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning Mick and All from a calm South Bucks.

Following on from the theme of birds I found DH, an animal and bird lover, pulling feathers out of one of his pillows with my tweezers 🤔. He then placed the feathers individually on a small bush in the garden. Shortly afterwards our resident blue tit started taking them up to the bird box in readiness for his lady friend to hatch the forthcoming baby blue tits. You couldn’t make it up 😀

Good morning Mick and all who follow. It's cloudy but bright out today, but at least it's not that pesky haar!
Lovely Gardener was here yesterday - but wearing his house painter's hat. He's a treasure, that man! Anyway we got chatting about the various 'eateries' dotted around the countryside round here, and the upshot was I took my friend to one I had forgotten. It's perched on a hill with wonderful views in all directions - we could see the haar sitting out over the sea as well! The food is good there which it would need to be as you have to drive up a long bumpy farm track for about a mile to reach it! A successful outing..
I had a very jubilant phone call from DGD3 when I got home - she has a conditional acceptance for Stirling University, her preferred one. She's so excited and says it will give her the impetus now to work for her required grades. Only a few more weeks and the last of my grandchildren will have left school, the end of another era.
Today I have a day at home with no need to be anywhere I shall potter and redistribute some more clutter - and thus redistribute the dust as well 😉. Or I might not. I must also go out and take a wander round the garden, pick some more daffodils for the house and feed the fish. Sounds good to me
Enjoy your days too everyone - especially you Mick as you remember your time in Holland. The sun has just found a chink in the clouds - I hope it shines on you all today, whatever you do x

Morning Mick, morning All. Our corner of Somerset is overcast with drizzle.

Yesterday was such a sunny day it was impossible to stay indoors. Not full of energy we walked (very slowly) along the river, pausing to chat with a dog walker we often see. An unplanned lunch stop before hopping on a bus to the beach. A short walk later there was coffee and cake before the bus home The conservatory called for the rest of the afternoon where miraculously we both stayed awake.

No such luck today, the drizzle has turned into rain as I write. Laundry to process, I’m wishing I’d done it yesterday. We need to clear our living room this afternoon ready for a decorator coming (far too) early tomorrow. Nothing else on todays agenda other than I need to catch up with some financial stuff.

Take care everyone. Hope Sunday is kind to us all.

Alygran Sun 16-Apr-23 08:01:51

Good morning from North Yorkshire. Another bright start.
Church, ironing and Sunday Lunch Club for me today.
The lunch club is a monthly meet up in the village pub for people on their own. Today there will be 6 of us enjoying our roast dinner and probably pudding too.
Wishing everyone a good day.

harrigran Sun 16-Apr-23 07:55:15

Good morning from a dry NE, forecast to be a bit warmer today.
DS and GD2 visited yesterday and brought me a book of photographs about the filming of Downton Abbey and a tea towel. His in laws live in the village where it was filmed.
DD is travelling home to Brussels today but will be back for a visit next month. SIL will come for his Sunday dinner.
Have a good day.

Georgesgran Sun 16-Apr-23 07:51:04

Here’s my visitor - one of half a dozen that hammer on the glass. It’s like a horror film.

brook2704 Sun 16-Apr-23 07:46:04

Good morning everyone from Inverness where we’ve grey skies but it’s dry. Yesterday was a gorgeous sunny day and it was so lovely being outside with the DGC
Hope your DD gets a bit better soon Susan sounds like you’re doing a great job looking after the DGC although I know what you mean about it being tiring - I’m exactly the same too. We’ve got today and tonight to look after them both before DD and Sil are back from Switzerland
Gorgeous photos Ash and safe journey home
Enjoy your holiday Oops
A shame for your DH about the golf gingster
Hoping everyone meeting up with friends and family has a lovely time and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Georgesgran Sun 16-Apr-23 07:45:36

Good morning from Durham. I was woken early by jackdaws hammering on my windows - this started last year - I think they are attacking their own reflections, but it’s disturbing and they mark the glass.
Last night SinL had an email from BA about our flight debacle at Christmas. We will get compensation for the cancelled flight and he will get his out of pocket expenses (about £2K) but they have deducted 2 glasses of wine on our last afternoon from the claim and the final insult is that there’s another 28 day wait for the money! Disgraceful.
DD2 and I are meeting later in Newcastle, as I want her opinion on some new curtains for my lounge. A glass of wine may be taken in Fenwicks new cocktail bar!
Best wishes to all. X

Sar53 Sun 16-Apr-23 07:43:34

Good morning from Essex by the sea where it is dry but cloudy.
DH will be off to rugby soon I have no plans apart from some washing.
I hope you all have a great Sunday xx

Oopsadaisy1 Sun 16-Apr-23 07:39:25

Good morning Mick and all from a dull but dry Oxfordshire.
Off to the beach today for a few days so I will be in my happy place.
By the time we get home MzOops will have left for her London trip, so I will have plenty of cleaning and clearing up to do.
She uses every room in the house when she is here, the conservatory is full of clothing that she needs for London, her bedroom now has stuff she bought in the Charity shops yesterday in boxes around the room, the study has her work all over the desk, bathroom full of bottles and potions, dining room table also covered in work related paperwork. I’ve cleared the sitting room so we have a place to sit and relax, but she’s been to busy to sit with us.
Anyway it’s lovely to see her and MissOops is coming over today with her dog and will stay here until we get home, making frequent trips and zoom calls to check on Nephew.
I expect my ears will be burning!
Have a good day everyone and let’s hope it’s another lovely Spring day.

Here's my visitor

Pittcity Sun 16-Apr-23 07:34:02

Good morning from a grey skied Colchester. The sun is forecast to peep out later. I hope to get washing on the line. No plans here except roast pork Sunday dinner.
Love to all 🦩 x

Grammaretto Sun 16-Apr-23 07:34:01

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Overcast but dry.
There's a chaffinch tapping at each bedroom window as I write.. I imagine they find insects there.
Yesterday, on our walk, my df spotted goldfinches on a field of broccoli and heard skylarks on the same.

I visited DMiL in hospital. She slept most of the time but I was assured the doctor will see her this morning and treatment will begin to handle her pain.

There's a harp concert this afternoon to look forward to.

I'm glad your birthday was so happy GM and that you sound well settled in.
What a relief!
Sorry that your DD is so poorly Sarah
Sending get well vibes
Hoping that everyone's day goes well.

Kalu Sun 16-Apr-23 07:32:57

Good morning from Glasgow where we have an overcast sky so far. Hoping the sun burns through at some point. It is dry at least.

Nothing pressing on today, possibly a bit of power washing. I stopped at Morrisons yesterday after dropping GD1 home to fill up the car and couldn’t resist buying a few more plants to fill up some pots. They always have a well stocked selection of plants at very reasonable prices so potting up today.

Have a good Sunday all.

Ashcombe Sun 16-Apr-23 07:32:54

🙄 I should have added these photos to my post, captured by DH at Lydford.

Gingster Sun 16-Apr-23 07:21:55

Good morning all and we’re back in Essex. The journey home was very good and Dh was able to go to a footie match with ds1.

DS2 played golf at ‘our old golf club’ and found his dads and grandads trophy cups in a presentation cabinet. The present captain spoke to him and got the key to allow DS to hold them and have his pic taken holding them.
I felt sad as Dh was such a good golfer but now ‘can’t’ (won’t ) play. 🤷.

Today we have Dd, twin gs’s and little gd coming for lunch. Eldest gd has gone back to Uni. It will be board games /craft with little legs while the boys watch footie with grandad.

Glad you’re feeling better Sar.

Wishing you all a good day. 🌷

Ashcombe Sun 16-Apr-23 07:04:19

Good morning from a dull but dry part of mid Devon.

Mick: I hope you enjoy seeing places in Europe on TV where you were stationed in the RAF, whilst watching the cycling.

I expect you will enjoy having a day to yourself, monk08. An ‘empty’!

Your birthday sounded perfect and you seem pleasingly relaxed, grandMattie after some busy weeks. Just what you need: a breathing space before completing your move.

Lydford Gorge was the perfect place to visit in the sunshine yesterday. We walked over a mile and were delighted to see marsh tits and a nuthatch from the bird hide. A favourite drive over Dartmoor completed the outing before we joined fellow residents on site for a social gathering involving local cider and delicious pasties with various fillings, including curry, much to the delight of olddudders!

Later today we’ll pack up to drive back to Torbay, a journey of less than an hour, traffic permitting. I’m sorry to read that Covid seems prevalent in Scotland and hope our friends on Gransnet stay well. Look after yourself, Susan56: young children are tiring!

Enjoy whatever you have planned for today! 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

karmalady Sun 16-Apr-23 07:02:49

Good morning to all, s somerset will be cloudy all day and the ground is wet

Yesterday was glorious, so uplifting to sit outside in the sun for two hours, reading while my washing was drying on the line. It definitely did lift the spirits to hear the birds and see bumble bees on my blueberries and gooseberries, which have started to flower

I have interesting knitting to do today, involves concentration and also satisfaction. Carrot and celery juice to make first, I bottle for three days and as always, the compost worms are happy. Then there is the archers and more of my book Dunster. Hedonistic day and I may think about ordering the organic cream and milk for my home made ice cream later this week as spring has sprung

A good day to all

Grandmabatty Sun 16-Apr-23 06:50:38

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 8° and back to grey skies. I'm hoping it's a haar and will burn off later. Grandmattie I'm glad you had a good birthday. You deserve it all. Enjoy your peaceful day.
Yesterday I pottered about the house. I didn't do anything of note but a spot of cleaning.
Today I should have been meeting a friend for breakfast but she has covid so our plans are in abeyance. Dd might bring the boys down and we'll go for a walk. Chicken and gammon for dinner which will last most of the week. I will make an apple sponge too. Have a good day all.

Good morning from the east coast of Fife.it’s still a wee bit dark out there and I hear the birds twittering away. What a fabby day I had yesterday when my daughter, my 2 young gds, 2 retriever dogs and my son in law came to visit. My SIL mowed the grass as we say in Scotland and it’s looks great, we all watched the grand National together, unfortunately no- one won a bean, no church today the covids doing its rounds sad

Susan56 Sun 16-Apr-23 06:46:54

Good morning from Shropshire where we have had rain overnight.

The children are still here as DD is quite unwell.Yesterday was spent in the garden making mud salads, obstacle courses and for DGD lots of dance practice.By the end of the day H looked like he had been dipped in mud.Today we will take DGD to her swimming lesson.SIL will meet us there. We are going to the farmers market and then hoping to get a glance at a steam train that is driving through Shropshire today. Then home to rest as we are exhausted.I went to bed at the same time as the children last night.

Enjoy the cycling and the memories Mick.

Sounds like you had a lovely day yesterday grandMattie.

Have the best day you can everyone🦩

grandMattie Sun 16-Apr-23 06:05:52

Good morning from Bristol. The sun is about to rise, getting lighter all the time and seems very fast all of a sudden.
I had a good night’s sleep, which is unusual for me.
Thank you for all my birthday wishes. It was a lovely day, both physically and emotionally - the family does make a big fuss, something DH and I never did. It was full to the brim with presents, family, food and so on. The weather was perfect and after an early lunch we took the children aged between 3 and 13 outside in the sun.
We took a rain cheque on that chocolate cafe as we had had so much food.
Today will be quieter, I hope; just church and possibly a walk somewhere.
I hope all is well with you and yours and that you are having a pleasant weekend. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩❤️🦩

monk08 Sun 16-Apr-23 06:02:06

Good morning mick and all who follow from the Black country where its still dark and trying to rain.
Early start DH has his first fishing contest of the year, he's not fishing but as club secretary needs to go he has all weighing nets and scales plus he takes another member who is a non driver.
Undecided on my plans will wait to see what the weather decides to do.
Enjoy your cycling and the memories of your time there.
Will catch everyone's news later I'm going back to catch some Zzzzzz's.
Enjoy your Sunday whatever your plans and may you all find some ☀️.
