A "nice" thread

I feel like starting a "nice" thread.

Post something nice that is happening now to you. Or in the past. Or likely to happen in the future.

In real life, I know of some things that are not nice that are happening to people. But I know these things in confidence. Each person does not know about the other.
People think I have only their problem to help them with, whereas in reality, I have about six.

I am ok really I think.
Just fancied a bit of cheering up.
I am actually going out today to a nice thing, which will hopefully help.
So at some point, I wont reply back for a while.

Two Robins having a 'chat' outside our window. They really looked like one was giving the other a piece of his mind, I could almost imagine his wings on his hips, head poking forward (I have a vivid imagination). The other one looked a bit confused as if he didn't quite know why he was getting an earfull 🙂

I witnessed something like that recently. One was posing aggressively and swaying from side to side while the other one, like yours, just watched looking bewildered. As I stated upthread, we do like feeding robins when they have young and some years they’ve had three broods but as my son says we’re perhaps over populating the area.

Thank you for this thread. It has really cheered me up and made me think.

This morning at church I met a lady with whom I seemed to have ‘ clicked’ I have seen her a few times in church but never had a chance to chat with her before.
Then on my way back home I saw a lady struggling to walk with a stick. I stopped and asked her if I could help. It turned out that she has the same Christian name as me, lives in the same apartment block and was born a few miles away from me in South Wales! If I had just walked past her I would never have met her. This too lifted my spirits.

I sang with my Sing it Happy choir today and really enjoyed it. It is a choir anyone can join - singer or, like me, hopeless.

But our leader is also a brilliant singing teacher and her pupils sometimes come and do solos. One of her pupils, a teenage girl, sang 'There's a Place for Us' so beautifully that I needed a hanky.

There are such lovely examples here of things that give us pleasure.
I have been researching my family tree and the 1921 census has provided me with the details of a relative whose name I couldn't quite remember. I am thrilled to bits.

Congratulations on your new granddaughter, Marydoll! What lovely news. flowers

Thank you. Lying very unwell in the cardiology unit in January, I thought I would never see this wee darling.
Then again, I thought I would never live to see my other wee grandadaughter. I am on cloud nine.

Something very simple. I get great pleasure from listening to music in my car, played from my Spotify list.
For months, Bluetooth wasn't working, even after trying every tip on the internet, consequently, no music. It looked like an expensive repair.
On my way to drop off some Mars Bar cake to my daughter, which I forgot to give her, when we went as a family to see our new granddaughter this morning, my music started playing spontaneously. I have no idea why.🤷‍♀️

The best part of this morning was that my two boys, who hadn't really been speaking for the last two years, were talking again.

My heart was singing along with the music!

I have just spent 6 hours with a group of crafting friends. Lots of chatter and laughter ( not much crafting).
Now I am looking forgot a visit from my Brother and SIL on Tuesday and preparing for a weeks holiday on my own.

DGS rang this am to ask if he could come and see us. While he was here, he asked if there were any jobs we want to doing.
So now the lawn has had its first mow!
It cost us . . . a can of Pepsi (which we keep for his visits. Made my day!

nadateturbe Sun 16-Apr-23 14:54:46

Best wishes Ashcombe and to your cousins son Kim.
The card is something to treasure Aldom.
But really, lovely threads from everyone. So much to be thankful for.
Thanks for starting the thread fancythat.

We are spending a few days in a cottage in the Lake District. The first time we have felt brave enough to go away from home since covid began as I am CEV. We are keeping away from busy places but have managed to have our picnic in some lovely spots and found an ice cream farm today where we could sit outside and enjoy our first ice cream for almost three years- bliss. The scenery is so beautiful and we are so grateful that we are well and able to enjoy this time together.

Delighted to notice how many of these pleasures cost us nothing at all financially. There's a lesson there somewhere.

Indeed Kim19.
Thanks TillyTrotter.

Our garden is a bit attractive - coming along after cold winter!

Juggernaut what a lovely story of your grandson creeping down the drive with his well written little letter. Something to treasure.
I'm similarly proud of my grandson. He's fourteen now. At birth not expected to live. He has global brain damage, cerebral palsy and is autistic. He struggles to write. It's a laborious task for him. I thought you all would like to see my Mothering Sunday card from him. He has written 'Dear Grandma, Hope you have a great day. You are the best. Love, xxxx
When he was born, two people told me it would have been better if he had died! How wrong they were. He is a joy and a blessing. Our lives have been so wonderfully enriched by having him. And what is more, he has made amazing progress. No one could have believed how well he has done, thanks to the medical profession and his wonderful parents.

TillyTrotter Sun 16-Apr-23 12:20:37

Forgot to add these .

TillyTrotter Sun 16-Apr-23 12:19:30

nadeteturbe what a heartwarming thing has come about that your family have embraced each other after such a long time in the face of such sadness.
💐

Last week’s Easter was filled with joy, our family spending time together. Every day is made up of moments and we must make as many into special moments as we can.

On Friday evening, we had a lovely Concert at our Church, which I organised. A fabulous Quatuor (strings) all young women, with a meal here beforehand for the musicians, and drinks and snacks after for the people who turned up, local and from afar. It was really lovely.

The 10th Concert since we moved here, all very different, and with a very different audience. Just so lovely and rewarding.

Today visitors arriving from Normandy- an ex French assistante at one of the schools were I taught- 30 years ago. Now a Head Mistress, with her OH and family.

Our DGS, aged six, (late August baby) who was really struggling to get the hang of cursive writing, suddenly 'got it' two days ago (Friday) and is now writing beautifully!
I still insist that six is too young to be learning cursive, but am really chuffed that he's not struggling with it any more!
We spotted him creeping on tip-toe down our drive this morning to put something through the letterbox.
It's just a note telling us what he had for supper last night, and where they're going today, but it's all in beautifully neat, tidy, cursive writing! Happy, happy, happy!

My young cat, Tigger, scared the life out of me by wandering out into our busy road and into gardens on the other side, this morning.

I know I cannot prevent this, unless I never let the cats out, which I regard as cruel, but I had to force myself to be calm about it.

Quarter of an hour later, he came home safe and sound.
