DGSs birthday party today. A lot of work but it'll be lovely seeing him zooming around with his friends. 😊❤️

A "nice" thread
(169 Posts)I feel like starting a "nice" thread.
Post something nice that is happening now to you. Or in the past. Or likely to happen in the future.
In real life, I know of some things that are not nice that are happening to people. But I know these things in confidence. Each person does not know about the other.
People think I have only their problem to help them with, whereas in reality, I have about six.
I am ok really I think.
Just fancied a bit of cheering up.
I am actually going out today to a nice thing, which will hopefully help.
So at some point, I wont reply back for a while.
I took a walk to Boots chemist yesterday to pick up my prescription. On the way there I met a friend that I haven't seen for ages. We had a lovely catch-up on the corner by the post box. I went into the library for a browse while my prescription was being made up. On the way home I met another friend and had another good Natter. It was lovely to see them both, and a very pleasant way to spend the morning.
Just spent a pleasant week at bonny Berwick upon Tweed, with lots of lovely town walls/coastal/riverside walks with our two pooches. Then to top it off yesterday, made a day trip to Edinburgh to visit Daughter and two teenage Granddaughters, who we hadn't seen for ages due to the dreaded Covid. So good to give them big hugs again. Morale meter now most definitely reading "full", and today we've safely returned home to Tyneside.
Basking this week after the good news of son's work promotion and a nice 'interview' with him on the company's website. Daughter just arrived in our favourite sunny spot for a week's holiday, happy to report her recent illness is responding to treatment.
This thread has reminded me of our English teacher at the Academy who banned the use of the word NICE in our written work. She insisted that NICE was the most overused adjective in the English language and that we must always think of a more suitable, precise word. She also lectured that any gift, day out, event, meal, etc, described as Nice, was 'damned with faint praise'
I now have the keys to my retirement flat, having been let down on the first purchase and waited several months for this one while certain solicitors faffed around! My son and DiL have been wonderful and put up with me during a trying time and will support me while the flat is brought up to a good standard. Other son and his family have also been wonderful.
What a lovely thread to read on a Sunday morning. We have just put our house up for sale and waiting for the 1st viewing in about half an hour! The house has never looked so tidy. In fact if we weren't moving to be nearer family I'd probably stay! The down side is we haven't found anywhere for us yet.
Fancythat you’ve started a really lovely post and I do hope your day improves. It sounds as though you are in the middle of things not of you’re making. I’m sure all will be well 🙏
I had the exciting news from my cousin that her son's chemo has had the satisfactory result of reducing his problem by 34%. Excellent start inspiring joy. Got down and dirty in the garden yesterday. Put in some exciting new plants and got rid of loads of recyclable to our local tip. Good feeling. Off to London this weekend for the strangest but potentially exciting fun time in a group of twenty (seventeen of whom I've never met before). So far activities include casino visit, Peter Kay at O2 and a bit of personal theatre. Can't wait. I so love having specific things to look forward to no matter how large or small
My sister is very ill. Yesterday she, I and our other 2 siblings met up for the first time in about 3 years, as there had been a falling out. Everyone hugged and we had a lovely afternoon. I was so happy.
Going for a weeks holiday by the sea, my favourite place. Nothing much to do all day. Thankyou for starting this thread OP and for all who have contributed. Really hope that things work out OP, it’s not easy carrying other people’s burden so good for you.
My start to the day the sound of a starlings nest above my bedroom window. I noticed it while planting my beans out this week.
I am going to see our twins today they live not far away from us. They so resemble our son and me it is remarkable. Just like their lovely mum they are really good little bakers. Now they go to school and their parents both work it’s a busy life. My ears will be ringing later as they both talk at once!
What a lovely thread 😊
I have a short holiday booked to my favourite place. Yesterday I planted some wild flowers and it was great to hear the birds singing. It helped as there are one or two family issues just now.
The swallows are flying around by the stables
hopefully they will nest in the stables again. Use to have three or four pairs nesting in the stable the last couple of years there has only been one pair but lovely to see them.
How lovely to have a happy thread. I went for a walk in our local park yesterday and the sun was really warm. There were children in the swing park and older children in the skate park as well as lots of people walking dogs. It's great that our park is so well loved and used.
A much needed thread when there’s so much misery around lately. Reading other items that cheer people makes me realise that I should appreciate the value of so many of the small events that I just dismiss. Thank you fancythat
I am lucky to have met the most wonderful life affirming person at my swimming pool.
I am unlikely to see her again but how very lovely it was to chat to her.
Full of both joy and empathy.
The other wonderful thing is she is a GP. I'm sure everyone would benefit from a GP like her.
I wish she was my GP.
Ah Septimia you’ve confirmed sightings my husband had when he was fishing last week. He said there were martins or swallows skimming over the water. I thought it was probably too early but it seems not.
I took a lovely walk in a local country park with DH yesterday. It really cheered me, listening to all the different birds singing, looking at all the plants beginning to burst into full leaf and flower, and watching a group of dogs playing happily with each other, chasing after balls and generally being free to run in their designated area. It was lovely watching them greet each other as another one joined in the fun once released from its lead.
We had a nice lunch in the cafe there and came home with spirits well and truly lifted 😁.

A small thing really but I'm so enjoying the rediscovery of Barbara Pym novels. I've read them before of course but I'm loving immersing myself in her little worlds again. Coffee, cats and 'Excellent Women' and I'm set for the morning.
I adore Barbara Pym! I’ve re read most of them several times. My favourite (so funny!) is probably Crampton Hodnet. Not long ago I passed it to dh (who usually reads only very heavy non fiction) as something light for a long flight.
He thoroughly enjoyed it, too.
IIRC she wrote it shortly before WW2, but it was a long time before it was published - post war she had thought it too dated, which it certainly would have seemed in say the 50s - but nowadays it’s almost as much a lovely period piece as a Jane Austen.
Here, the house martins have returned early - they usually arrive around the 20-somethingth. Last year they were late.
The sun is shining and summer is coming, albeit slowly.
Fancythat I am so sorry to hear that - I hope they are problems which can be resolved.
Sitting in bed with tea and toast and lemon & lime marmalade. Going to a car boot sale in a little while. First one this year. Sun is just coming through. Birds are singing. Daffs still flowering in my garden and a big flowering current bush is out in a deep red colour. Just going to put some pork in the oven so it’s nearly ready when we get back.
Yesterday we went to the coast and had a lovely walk along the front and you could actually feel the warmth.
I will answer all these lovely posts, but need to go out soon.
Have a lovely day yourselves!
One of the problems which prompted me to write this thread, has worsened today. Hopefully things will work through ok.
It doesnt help me that I have to keep so many confidences. I personally like and find it helpful the, a problem shared is a problem halved. But it cant be helped. Not everyone is the same.
But these posts are all helping, so thank you very much!
Hopefully others are enjoying reading them too.
I am going to visit my four day old granddaughter this morning. My children, partners and other granddaughter are popping in too.
My whole family all will be in the same place for the first time.
🥰
