No more kisses, I cannot stand it, it has to stop!

I’ve just liaised with a local councillor on line.
We have never met, I have never spoken to her in person and she signed off with a kiss.

Why do people and I assume she is reasonably bright think it is appropriate to use kisses at the end of texts and emails?
She is about 50!

Whilst I am ranting the other thing that has to stop is “Bless You” I bought a new phone the other week the sales assistant “blessed” me about 20 times, I think I’ve got a first class ticket to heaven.

I don’t want to be blessed or kissed, I want it to stop.

Am I being unreasonable?

The kiss could have been a mistake, I tend to end a text with a kiss to friends and family and have automatically done it when I didn’t intend to.

I started getting blessed when I reached 60, the person saying it means no harm but I do agree that it is irritating.

Lmao. It's like saying, "I love you" at the end of a business call or take-out call because you're always saying it to your family!! 🤣🤣

A lady a few years older than me calls everyone ‘sweets’. Another friend calls everyone darling. I call her by her name!

'Aw, bless' It sets my teeth on edge, not so much the words but the condescending voice it is always said in

Usually said to older people by 20 somethings!

It doesn’t bother me at all. I tend to add kisses automatically. I even sent two to the window cleaner as I text fast. 🤦 I did apologise but he found it funny luckily.

That made me giggle ShazzaKanazza

I hope I don't send one to my window cleaner, although we did have a nice chat through the window the other day 😁

Kisses, I use a lot with family and close friends.

Aw, bless, bless you! What is that about? Thankfully not heard by anyone I know or in our part of the world. Surely it’s a religious thing, not sure. I would find it irritating and don’t need blessed thank you.

I think sometimes people just forget who their sending messages to and end with a x

M0nica Sat 22-Apr-23 21:52:08

I never put kisses on texts or emails.

I have seen it used with yung people. We have a nurse practioner in our practice, who uses it all the time, through consultations - and it destroys any confidence in her abilities, I do not know why and if she is the only person available to see, I wait until I can see someone else.

Kisses on texts and emails to relative and friends, not to aquaintances until they become friends and sometimes not then. I usually let them start the habit and join in if I htink it appropriate.

Never on business emails!

It should have been signed off with “ regards, yours etc” , it was just her name and a kiss😬.

That’s odd and overfamiliar, thought it had included ‘regards etc” and was just a mistake.

I don’t particularly object to kisses on texts, but I really hate the Bless you thing.
I can’t think I’ve ever had it said to me, but a woman I work with seems to get it into every phone call about twenty times, along with, My Darling.
The funny thing is people seem to like it much more than my down to earth manner.

Millie22 Sat 22-Apr-23 21:33:35

I've done this before as I always put x at the end of my message. Even to the man who came to put our new fence in the garden. Oops 😂😂😂

Cabbie21 Sat 22-Apr-23 21:24:46

I must live in an alternative world as I only add x to my grandchildren, never to friends and certainly not in more formal situations, nor do I receive x apart from grandchildren.

SachaMac Sat 22-Apr-23 21:11:16

I put a kiss at the end of texts to family and friends but never on a business e mail unless in error.
The ‘aw bless’ thing I find irritating and patronising, it seems to be a stock response now.

All the above drive me mad.
I don't regularly use "kisses" on messages even to family. I only send kisses when I want them to have them.
I don't bless anyone either.
"Aw bless" is parricularly horrible. I wish there was a polite way of stopping this one! angry

Hithere

Same as religious people putting references to God in every situation- i learned to ignore it

My husbands pet hate ! Or when people say God bless- what's that about !?

Grannyben Sat 22-Apr-23 20:17:30

I normally only text my daughters but, on one occasion, I messaged my employer and put a xx on the end. I did message back rather quickly.
On another occasion I handed a customer their purchases and said "love you". I can still picture the look on their face.

Georgesgran Sat 22-Apr-23 20:16:53

Same here Shazza - it’s a habit, but I try to limit it to people I really know or those professionals I’ve met - gardener, window cleaner, etc.
