I’ve struggled since Christmas having five colds one after the other, then last Thursday whilst staying with friends me and DH started sneezing and coughing again ! To cut a long story short we now both have covid.
I’ve been longing for some time off from work, and life really, just wanted some time to sit and relax, maybe read a book, catch up with admin and the garden etc etc . Caring for mum, is taking its toll. Never wished to be poorly of course, I hate it, but here we are.
We’re feeling so terrible now we can’t relax. We’ve likely infected our lovely friends and their family. We’ve missed our DGD 5 th birthday. We’re also unable to attend a friends funeral this week.
We’re unable to pick the Grandchildren up from school or help with the teachers strikes.
And to top it off mum is ringing every two mins to say we should get the Dr to call for some treatment ! Whatever that is. And when will we be able to visit because she’s lonely. Never again do I want a break like this one 😡

You need the rest, take it. It is not being a bad daughter. Your mother is being well looked after. She misses you because she is used to you coming round, but if you return to visiting before you feel fully recovered, you only risk getting unwell again - with anything and then being unable to visit for another longish period.

I have made that mistake in my life, at work, not with family, and it is not a mistake I would make twice.

Katyj, yes, best to take a few days off when you feel better - just to be on the safe side. Spoil yourself. Your mother has carers, so she'll be fine. I've never had Covid, yet a friend's got a third dose of it.

Aww thank you all so much for your good wishes. When I started coughing last week I just thought I was starting with another cold but then when I started with an upset tum and a temperature decided to test. DH has only had a cough which has nearly gone now. Just goes to show we’re all different.
Mums still phoning, asking when I’m going to visit. We’re going to test over the weekend, but to be honest being the bad daughter I am, I feel like stringing it out for another few days whilst I get some strength back 🤣

Hope you’re soon better, my DH and I were poorly over Easter, we only had one test which he took as he’d lost his sense of taste and smell (temporarily) and it was positive, first time as far as we know. I’m assuming I had the same too and we did try to avoid most people but some of the family work here with us in our small family business so we had to keep going. Glad to say we’re both OK now but things take longer to get over as we get older don’t they? Have a good weekend everyone

Hope you’re soon back up and running Katy. Take it easy 💐

I keep thinking what if the weather had been this bad in April 2020 when we were all in lockdown and at least the weather was lovely. Doesn’t bear thinking about.

Fleurpepper Thu 27-Apr-23 18:32:59

Yes, get better soon. I am surprised to read that people are still testing for Covid. If I caught a cold now I don't think I would think it is Covid and probably would not test- just keep away from others until I am well again.

Get well soon flowers

Sending positive vibes and best wishes for a speedy recovery xxc

I'm disabled but go out 3 times a week. I haven't had covid (had jabs) but I still use a mask when I meet people.

Hithere Thu 27-Apr-23 13:37:37

Katyj

Please disconnect the phone if its landline or put it in DND so you dont get pestered by your mother

Concentrate on your healing, not on your mother and what she needs (future visits)

For other posters: there is previous background for OP's mother

My son and his young son have never caught it either despite being in the company of people who have tested positive. Some may well be immune for one reason or another.

biglouis Thu 27-Apr-23 13:26:01

I havnt had covid yet although I have told quite a few people I "think" Ive got it. A good way to deter unwanted visits or to cut them short.

sazz1 Thu 27-Apr-23 13:24:18

We haven't caught covid yet despite me being in a room with 2 relatives who were both coughing with supposed chest infections for 2 hours. A small room and it was confirmed as covid the next day. Also had DGD to stay for 4 days who developed a cold coughing and sneezing which tested positive for Covid. Can not believe we didn't catch it and don't know why.
Hopefully you will feel much better soon. Perhaps taking DGD out as a late birthday treat would be nice. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

So sorry you are feeling so low - hoping you both soon feel better xxx

Shelflife Thu 27-Apr-23 12:40:07

Katy , you are not a moaning Minnie, you are having a rough time ! Sending good wishes for a speedy recovery - the 🌞will shine again soon.

Esmay Thu 27-Apr-23 12:33:59

Hi Katy ,

Poor you and poor hubby !

Trying to explain to aged parents that you don't feel great tends to fall on deaf ears .

They fixate on something and that's it until the next fixation !

Yesterday , I had an earful of my father's missing cufflinks ( I can't recall the last time he wore a shirt and his cufflinks aren't missing ) and when I finished his bed bath and massage he said, thank goodness you've finished - I can have my proper bath now !

You've tested positive for Covid , but are you sure that you don't have hay fever as well ?
That would compromise your health .

You need a holiday .

Meanwhile , try some Berocca ,watching an old film especially if it makes you laugh and switching the phone off for a couple of hours !

Wishing you well .

Hope you feel better very soon 💐

Milest0ne Thu 27-Apr-23 12:01:45

Everyone I know who has caught covid - me included- caught it on holiday or soon after returning from holiday. I think there must be different stains around.

Smileless2012 Tue 25-Apr-23 10:03:14

Everyone needs a good moan from time to time Katy and what better place than GN to let it all out.

I'm sorry you're both unwell with Covid and all you can do is wait for it to pass. As has been suggested, organise a break away and you can start planning for that right now, and give yourselves something to look forward too flowers.

Katyj Tue 25-Apr-23 09:54:59

GrannySomerset. Thank you.Your so kind. I’m very lucky, I just need a moan sometimes 🤣

GrannySomerset Tue 25-Apr-23 08:34:39

Poor you, katy, you must both be exhausted and in desperate need of a break, and the responsibility for your mum just makes it worse. This winter has seemed endless to me and I haven’t got half the demands on me that you have. No help, but I do so sympathise.

M0nica Tue 25-Apr-23 08:17:25

When you recover, have a holiday, if you can. Even a weekend away can be a good pick-me-up. flowers

Katyj Tue 25-Apr-23 08:01:10

BlueBelle. What’s the odds of that happening ! Makes you wonder. Think we just need some sun. And like you say Violet a proper break.

VioletSky Tue 25-Apr-23 07:38:56

Time odd of life poorly doesn't count...

So you still need a break!

Get well soon and then organise yourself a real rest!
