Oh, kalu, how absolutely dreadful for you all! My thoughts and prayers will be with you - it is a hard road to walk but keep cheerful… 🫂

EkwaNimitee Thu 27-Apr-23 10:16:33

Shocking news Kalu, my thoughts are with you both.

Grammaretto Thu 27-Apr-23 10:14:36

Kalu I am so sorry to hear that news.
Sending hugs and positive thoughts xxx

Kalu, I am so sorry to hear about your DH. It must have been a huge shock. 💐

Good morning all from cloudy Harrogate. You seem to be very organised at your DDs house GrandMattie you obviously like to keep busy.
Yesterday took a trip to Ripon on the bus which took about half an hour to get through killinghall a small village outside Harrogate because of road works. We had lunch in Booths, an upmarket supermarket that seems to be only in theNorth of England.
I now await my Sainsburies shopping delivery with apparently no substitutes! Wow!!
I will try to go into town later and see if I can consult theBoots pharmacist. I bought a set of Boots products- Future Renew, skin reversal. It might be what’s causing a flare up of red itchy skin on my face or it might be something else, but it’s most uncomfortable. I’d forgotten how fickle my skin can be.
Have the best day possible folks

Kalu Thu 27-Apr-23 09:23:05

Good morning all from Glasgow where it is wet with an ominous looking sky promising more rain to come.

A phone call from DH’s consultant wasn’t what we expected. The scan results revealed the cancer originally discovered in DH’s throat has metastasised to his lung and is inoperable. We are staying strong and hopeful and will deal with whatever the future brings.
Unfortunately not a day to busy myself in the garden, I will make do foutering about indoors.

Yes, I know thé garden centre you mention Marydoll. An arbour will be perfect in your garden. Are you planning to grow a climber over it?
I managed to find a selection of hollyhocks last month Grey but I plan to keep them indoors a while yet. The severe winter killed off two I planted last year.

Best wishes to all for a good day and a favourite quote of mine too, Carpe Diem.

luluaugust Thu 27-Apr-23 09:15:07

Good morning all from a cloudy W Kent. Off to art group this morning for a chat and a little painting, later I must top up the shopping.
Thinking of all those not feeling good.

harrigran Thu 27-Apr-23 09:02:44

Good morning from a dry NE.
Booster vaccination was fine and actually done before the appointment time. Sanofi this time, supposed to boost the immune system, apparently it contains shark products.
I have an appointment with my solicitor this afternoon to sort out will and POA.
Have a good day all, better day wished for those feeling poorly.

A rather late Good Morning from me. I had an unpleasant and very wakeful period of a couple of hours in the middle of last night and am just “coming to “ now.
I needed a quiet day yesterday after the Arts Society Antiques Day I had been responsible for organising on Wednesday. I had booked Mark Hill whom you may have seen on Antiques Roadshow and Antiques Road Trip . There were 40 of us for a combination of 2 lectures in the morning, lunch and then a “Roadshow” type information, identification and valuation session in the afternoon.
Fortunately he proved a charming and engaging speaker and they loved him! I believe he is filming Roadtrip in or around this area in the next week so I will be keeping an eye open for those programmes later in the year.
So having done the square root of ****all yesterday I need to gird up my loins for the first Film Studies session this afternoon. We are looking at the films of Steven Spielberg. So well known but I don’t think I have seen many of his films so I am looking forward to learning more. Meeting up with some friends in the class for lunch first, it will be nice to catch up as the Easter break seems to have gone on for weeks.
Wishing you all a pleasant day, relief from pain or worries and safe travels if you are out and about .

Good morning from Shropshire.Another dull day forecast.

We were up early waiting for DD to arrive with H when we got a message to say she had skidded on some muck on the road a tyre had burst and she ended up on the other side of the lane. The what ifs make me feel sick.A lovely lady stopped and waited with them for SIL to arrive and just had a message to say they are on their way.

Today we are taking H to an ‘Under the Sea’ event. The ocean and sea creatures are his passion.I am sure he will be dressed head to toe in clothes with sharks on.We have bought him some shark crocs so he will be a very happy little boy.

I hope you are feeling better later and able to attend the course Grandmabatty💐

Oops family problems can be overwhelming.Look after yourself💐

Have the best day you can everyone🦩

EkwaNimitee Thu 27-Apr-23 08:28:04

Good morning Mick and everyone from a rather dull Carlisle.

My chest of drawers arrived before eight and was taken up to the small spare bedroom and put where I wanted it. And that was it! I'd forgotten, from my previous deliveries in 2021, that I needed to pay extra to have it unpacked. For the large sum I'd paid them to take it upstairs, I'd assumed they would set it up. Prices must have gone up radically, heaven knows what they'd charge to do it now.
I set about the task gingerly, heavy lifting and hauling about is not what I'm supposed to do! There were large amounts of cardboard, polystyrene, plastic wrap etc to hack off. Then I had to shift it off the base packing, remove that and shift it back. However, it is done and I'm shortly going to go for a reviving cuppa. The vast amounts of packing to be removed later. Now I have an excuse to do little else for the rest of the day!
It looks like gardening will be off anyway. I may just sit and watch the sparrows. My lady sparrow has brought her friends round at last and for the last few days they have been really busy scoffing the aphids. They need to, I have too many...

Your DH is a gem, Marydoll. Enjoy the arbour.

And, everyone, hopefully, an improving/good day to you all.

Sar53 Thu 27-Apr-23 08:27:38

Good morning from Essex by the sea. The sun is trying to shine but it was cold first thing.
I'm feeling a little better, not coughing quite so much, hopefully the second lot of antibiotics are beginning to work.
Food shopping this morning then a visit to a neighbour who has a big birthday today. I shall buy her some flowers.
Enjoy Thursday everyone xxx

I thought I had lost my huge agapanthus, which I had liberated from DD'S garden. Yesterday, I noticed some green shoots, Perhaps it will come back, Greyduster.

Alygran Thu 27-Apr-23 08:23:35

Good morning from North Yorkshire. The sun is a bright ball through the mist. Perhaps it will clear up.
An annual report to write for the charity today then some gardening. I bought a small shrub yesterday the needs to go into the garden.
Ironing an alb brought memories back of when I had DH’s to do. He always managed to get a footprint on it or wine on a sleeve or something. Mind you it was easier to do then his surplice. A big broad ironing board helped!
Have a good day everyone.

Greyduster Thu 27-Apr-23 08:22:00

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a fairly bright South Yorkshire. I’m going walking this morning, then having lunch with DD. It seems to be turning into a regular Thursday thing. My appointment with the physio yesterday was a bit hit and miss. He’s given me some new exercises to do. I hope they are more effective than the last ones. I called into the garden centre on the way home and bought a new double flowered hollyhock and some snap dragons (couldn’t get them anywhere last year).
BlueBalou I’ve lost one of my agapanthus too. Sadly, it was one my grandson bought me last year. I have a big one that has survived the winter.
Have the best day you can folks.

Abitbarmy Thu 27-Apr-23 08:17:29

Good morning everyone from a dull but dry Cumbria. Last full day of short break with DGd . Had the best night’s sleep so far, though not long enough! Climbing wall for the DGd then swimming then her first grown up meal out with us this evening. An early start tomorrow for the journey home as I’ve an appointment for a scan early afternoon. Hope everyone’s day brings some joy.

Jaxjacky Thu 27-Apr-23 08:16:31

Morning from a grey S Hampshire, rain later. I have 28 veg seedlings to pot on today, so the greenhouse will be busy. A walk out after that and a phone call to my dentist, after upgrading our mobiles on Tuesday only one was delivered yesterday, mine should come today. I had a good 4” chopped off my hair yesterday, it feels much lighter.
Hope you improve Gbatty you must be exhausted.

Good morning all from a showery Glasgow.

I'm sure your DD appreciated the ironing, GM. Albs are not easy to iron, as I know from experience, but I love the crisp, white finish when done!.

Yesterday turned out a little different from expected. I mentioned to DH that I was going to Sainsbury's to pick up the errant parcel, but would be right back, as I wasn't feeling too great. Surprisingly he offered to drive me, as long as that's all I did. No dithering about.
However, on leaving Sainsbury's he took a different route home, saying he wanted to pop into our local plant nursery.
(Kalu and Topsy, you will know it, the one on the road to Irvine)
To my utter joy, we were there to buy an arbour, with a seat.
For the last thirty years, since we moved here, I have lusted after one, to put in a certain corner of the garden. DH has always said, we didn't need one and they were too expensive.
He hasn't said much, but I think recently, he has realised, how much I miss going abroad and am sad and disappointed at being unable to travel very far from home now, so I should make the most of our garden. An arbour will make it more enjoyable.
He is a gem, well most of the time. 😍

I need to drive to the doctor's, then I will have a rest. Tonight the children from the three local schools are being confirmed in our church, so I need to undertake my sacristan duties with another sacristan. It will be a busy evening.
I shall take the opportunity tonight, part of the Swedish death clean to donate to Dollie's school, the Phonics programme, I bought, when Zoom teaching Dollie, during lockdown. They don't come cheap and I know from experience back up copies are necessary and appreciated..

I wish you all a pleasant day and best wishes to all who are unwell, especially my sassenach/ Italian GN friend..

Grammaretto Thu 27-Apr-23 08:01:01

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Feels cold again with no sun.

I had a video call with my df in Spain yesterday where the temperatures are due to be 40°c today.

Did some garden tidying and sowed a few more seeds..
Yoga and then a repairman due today and.
DMiL could be discharged from hospital so I may be bringing her home if the care package is in place.

I hope all who are poorly are better and it's a nice relaxing day.

Gingster Thu 27-Apr-23 07:56:50

Good morning all and it’s very chilly with the wind coming off the sea here at the Suffolk coast. We’re lucky to have the summerhouse to sit in - lovely and cosy when the sun shines, and good for airing the washing.

A bit if this and that today. We never get going very early here . I’m up early and on my I pad reading the news and gransnet. Then take Dh up his cuppa and the weeks papers, looking out of our bedroom window at the sea and watching a few people on the beach. Doing crosswords .Then breakfast , and after taking the dog out and DH’s Bargain Hunt , it’s afternoon and half the day has gone.

Never mind - it’s good to be retired.

No ironing here either. I spent many many years ironing with shirts for Dh, 2 sons, 1 daughter. Now only the odd occassion when needs must.

Hope all those with worries, sickness and problems have a better day 🙏

Taichinan Thu 27-Apr-23 07:56:41

Good morning Mick and all from a grey Angus coast. Still struggling u. Winter hibernation mode, but up earlier this morning for tai chi. I had a call yesterday to say that my repaired hearing aids are ready for collection, so I'm off to Perth for them this afternoon. It will be a relief to get them back - the temporary replacement earbuds were ill-fitting and noisy. Strangely I still had the Bluetooth connection so the phone still worked well in my ears - if anyone wanted a conversation with me this past week they were best to phone me even though they were standing next to me! Anyway, it will be good to get them back and I hope there's an improvement.
Sorry to hear you're still unwell this morning Grandmabatty. I hope you manage to your art class this afternoon.
Enjoy your short visit to your flat today grandmattie - I hope your delivery is in time. So glad you're still enjoying you solo adventure ginny - you'll need to show us some of your art work.
Now, time for off. Enjoy your day everyone, and may you all be warmer than we are here!
