a very sad day at the recycling centre

If we have plasterboard to dispose of, and we did at one point, we take it to France as our local tip in the UK will not take it. They direct us to another tip in the country, 15 miles away - except it only takes it if it doesn't incorporate any insulation foam. They suggested we scrape it off - and anyway they charge to dispose of plasterboard

Knowing that the tip in our commune in France happliy accepts plasterboard, with and without foam insulation on it - and do not charge, we took it with us on our next trip. It wasn't much, about half an 8 x 4 sheet in all.

I’m not sure why non-local residents should use the recycling facilities we pay for with our Council Tax. In MK you have to book a slot anyway giving your address and postcode so I wouldn’t waste your time and petrol driving any great distance to MK!

Yes, a slot has to be booked here too and woe betide anyone who doesn't have the correct postcode!

Modern incinerators are very clean. We abide by the EU ruling on this.

Yes, we used to skip dive when the children were small. Rescued and cleaned up some dolls, one of which DD kept. the rest went to a charity shop. We found a magnificeent toy castle for DS.

Then the local tip got more organised and we bought (in England) a wonderful carved sideboard for our French house.

I used to skip dive before it was not permitted.
I found an old door which we made into an outdoor table top.

There ought to be Tip Shops at every tip but I daresay it would be deemed unaffordable to organise.
My DS and DDiL have furnished their house from their Tip Shop. slight exaggeration

This type of unwanted plastic stuff is advertised on our village Facebook page and is almost always claimed by someone.

Also the items people just throw away makes me think "ohhh I could have used that"! I want to snatch stuff out their hand lol ,watching Money for nothing doesn't help!

Me too, we are tyding up my dad's massive! allotment, sorted out all the big plastic containers and other various plastics (3 cars loads) only to be told to "throw it in none recycles"

That is what happens here, too, granmaretto. I’m not sure whether that includes things like plastic chairs, though, if that’s what the OP means by hard rigid plastic.

My county has a huge waste incinerator which burns waste to create electricity.

We are also told to put it in general recycling. When I queried about creating more landfill I was told nothing goes to landfill. There's a huge incinerator which produces heat for x number of houses.

Any unburned metal is separated using magnets

Paper, card, cans, milk bottle plastic and bottles are still separated off.

Check out MK recycling. I have visited their plant and the system is IMO as good as it gets both for weekly domestic recycling and at" the tip"

We had a similar experience being told to just put everything into general waste.

Very upsetting and annoying.

Recycling options seem to be getting fewer as it's cheaper to have "better quality" recycling and less of it apparently.
