Pot holes getting worse!

Cyclists and bikers are suffering too. When they are ‘fixed’ it’s a temporary patch that soon reverts back.

Report them, either to your Parish Council, if it’s within the village boundary, or to your local council.

Oops our county council had over 13,000 potholes reported last year, a little over 5,000 were fixed, (FOI request), they do get reported, they don’t get fixed.

If they are not reported they cannot be fixed, I have heard so many people complaining about them but when asked they have not reported them to their local council.

It's not the local council, it's the county council who are responsible for roads. My county council has a bit on the website where they can quickly be reported if you know the postcode of the nearest building.
Sadly some of our filled potholes are sinking now.

We’ve reported them and have been told they just have no money. They did do one outside, out drive, they turned up with a small pot of tarmac and ignored the rest.

It is terrible around here you just can't avoid them. The worst ones are where a drain has sunk. Unfortunately, instead of making a proper repair they just put a dab of tarmac on it, ridiculous. Strangely where the councillors live whole roads are resurfaced evenwhen there is very little wrong with the road.

If a pothole has been reported to the council, you stand a good chance of them paying for any damages to your vehicle, keep all receipts.

I was told that any claim for damage will only be considered if the pot hole in question is marked for attention - it’s a yellow square painted around it in my neck of the woods. When I hit a pothole last year, at very slow speed might I add, because I knew it was there, but unavoidable. Not only did I shred the tyre, I buckled the wheel and then the wheel bearing on the same side had to be replaced a few weeks later. Of course, that pothole wasn’t marked!

I report all those round here, and there are many, to FixMyStreet, and they all get done!

We were in Tenerife a couple of years ago and went up Mount Teide in a coach so thats a few miles on twisty roads and never saw a pothole. Great road compared to ours.

I’m in Surrey, which has been dubbed the Pothole Capital of England, and our roads are appalling! I drive out most Saturdays to a local hostelry for lunch, and you take your life in your hands over some of the roads. I did notice yesterday that one particularly bad spot has been repaired, for how long it will last, well, we’ll see.

I was thinking it must be due to Global Subsidence because we have the same here. Actually, probably Global Not Being Able to Build Roads properly anymore really.

This part of Cheshire (not the poshpart) is the Pothole Capital of the World.

Do developers have a responsibility to mend pot holes, appearing on an estate, well established, but now being built on in every nook and cranny. Nothing until these massive lorries appeared on a regular basis. Now pot holes appearing with great frequency. Call to our Councillor methinks

But pot holes, they come roadfuls. It is not possible to report one pothole on the road between us and the next village, a heavily used commuter route, it is one rough gravelly lumpy road with random holes of various depths for the whole of its 3 mile length.

If the car in front suddenly swerves, it isn't because the driver is on his phone, it is because they have seen a bad pothole and are swerving to avoid it and you immediately follow suit

I’m sure that your Parish Council have reported them Monica , it might be an idea to email your Parish Clerk and get it put onto the Agenda for their next meeting,

Our council website has a form to report potholes which I have used and yes tarmac is usually used then disintegrates. However I have been driving in and out Liberton Edinburgh twice a day to Bonnyrigg and the entire main road from Liberton Hospital to the city boundary is covered in potholes, lumps and bumps. Seriously considering getting a cross country jeep for my next car. DH says each time "hold onto your hat!" So dangerous for cyclists or even motor bikes.

What I find incomprehensible is that our authority will mend those that have reached the required depth but will leave those near it that are not quite there meaning they will have to come out again in the next few weeks, ( or months).

Months, because that is how long it will take them to get round to it.

Same here in NI. Dangerous and costly. Ridiculous when we pay toad tax.
I used to work in Roads Service. Repairs were categorised and urgent ones done very quickly. What you suggest sounds sensible nandalot. Didn't work that way.

Our council show no desire at all to do anything about our local pothole ridden road.

In my village - population over 5 thousand, there are 67 potholes reported on the council website.

It seems as though the machine they fill them with can only do squares or rectangles, so if there’s an oval hole a portion in the middle is filled in leaving two potholes either side!
