The Windsors Coronation Special is on Ch4 this evening! 😃

My daughter had her first baby at our little local hospital in Ascot (although her oxygen levels were really too low) because the alternative was Wexham Park in Slough and she thought Ascot would look better on the birth certificate grin In fact all the doctors and nurses I have dealt with at Wexham have been brilliant and some of the nicest people I've met. The second one was born in Frimley Park in Surrey. Apparently that was acceptable wink

Ps it is a very good likeness!!

😁

Did he eat it afterwards?

Here’s another weird one for you FannyC.

A Welsh artist has created a portrait of the King using Marmite on toast, to "raise a toast" to the coronation. Nathan Wyburn wanted to celebrate by creating a piece of art using ingredients from Charles' favourite sandwich, which includes Marmite.

The actual artwork took just two hours, but the quirky artist said the "most tedious part" was spending half an hour toasting 42 slices of white bread in his four-piece toaster at his flat. 😂

John Betjeman wasn't too fond of Slough either - I wonder what upset him so much that he wanted bombs to land?

Oreo Mon 01-May-23 12:11:50

Saw this was on last night so watched it expecting loads of laffs
The other series was funny, but this one? Dire really. All the actors giving their all but their lines mainly didn’t even make me smile. So the writing was poor and not their fault.
Eugenie and Beatrice had a few good lines between them and the ninja Camilla moment amusing but I turned tv over to another channel after that.

Glorianny Mon 01-May-23 10:52:47

Loved the Windsors and I liked Frankie Boyle as well. He is funny even if his language is a bit much. And the programme was interesting.

JaneJudge Mon 01-May-23 10:42:01

I think Beatrice and eugenie are the BEST characters in it smile

The office was making fun of those kind of people who behave like that, it wasn't making fun of the people being taken the mick out of. I am not a fan of Ricky Gervais (or the office tbh) but After Life and Derek are really quite 'spot on' from an observational pov imo and I understand why people find it uncomfortable but these people live and work alongside us.

My son lives in a very nice village near Slough. It’s near Windsor and Eton, too, which sounds posher!

Really enjoyed the Windsors programme, especially Beatrice and Eugenie.

Allsorts FB was spot on!

I enjoyed the Windsors. I’m staying at my son’s house with their labrador while they are away for the weekend. I’m taking her for plenty of walks and playing in the garden but I’m sure the house is strangely quiet without my 2 lively grandchildren.

At one point when I laughed out loud the dog must have taken it as a signal for playtime. She leapt up on the sofa and climbed over my head and the more I laughed at her antics the more she wrestled me. I ended up lying on the sofa with a big daft lab on top of me and had to rewind the tv to see what I’d missed during the wrestling session 🐶

More Monarchy bashing from channel 4. You republicans will revel, I'm sure.

I’m not a republican.
Have you seen it Freya?
I just think it’s very funny.
I think William and Catherine like it too

No, I watched a programme about Charles and his love of music, which I share. Might give it a watch later, will let you know. Was a grump yesterday, so this m8ght be the tonic I need.

Allsorts Mon 01-May-23 07:22:46

Enjoy the Windsors although I'm a royalist, but a slimmed down version now called for and think Charles is on track. I really enjoy Euganie and Beatrice. As for Boyle, that's what he is, so I turn off.

FannyCornforth Mon 01-May-23 07:10:08

Yes Lois, it would be nice to find out. I love that type of thing.
It is the stuff that really makes you proud to be British ♥️

I am loving the crowning the chicken in cinderford Casdon , I wonder what other wacky events are taking place in hidden parts, that don't cost the earth but are funny community bashes.

Ref Slough ; Slough has been there since late 1800s.

If you walk through Eton which is where the college is there was a really old bridge and cars and buses could use it but it became very worn and now it can only be used for walking over.
The center of Slough is only about a 20 minute walk to Eton College. Eton College is about a 10 to fifteen minute walk over that bridge to Windsor Castle.

Windsor is quite pleasant with the River Thames and all the Royal swans beautiful on a warm sunny day.

Ricky Gervais put Slough on the map with his T.V. show called the Office all filmed in Slough.

And Windsor Castle has a Slough postcode!

FannyCornforth Mon 01-May-23 05:44:40

Yes, biglouis, Wernham Hog was the company, ‘where life is stationery’

biglouis Mon 01-May-23 00:26:41

Was not that satirical program "The Office" set on an industrial estate in Slough? I never thought much of the series or considered it funny but apparently it is a real icon of humour with some people. It is filled with examples of bullying, nasty practical jokes, ableism and other unpleasantness which were probably considered just banter when it was made. I just foud it rather tiresome.

nadateturbe they’ve certainly done a lot of heavy lifting for the Republicans today

Possibly.

Maggiemaybe Mon 01-May-23 00:05:43

Betjeman was very unkind about Slough in his poem of the same name, which I remember studying at school. We were told that he was just using Slough as representative of any area he considered blighted by industrialisation (and probably because he could easily rhyme it with "It isn't fit for humans now" grin). He regretted it later and apologised for the damage his poem did to the town's reputation. It seems to have stood the test of time though, which must be so annoying for anyone living there.

annodomini Sun 30-Apr-23 19:21:58

There's something about the name of Slough that has a depressive implication. I blame John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress for creating the 'Slough of Despond'.

Fanny sorry, I meant the actual performance a week tomorrow.

Oh sorry too Charley

Re Slough, I had no idea that it was thought of as a ‘slum area’. I certainly didn’t think that.
As with Milton Keynes, I just thought it was one of those ‘new towns’ which have lots of ‘out of town’ areas.
I’m in Derby, and we have one of our own. Unfortunately

Apparently Princess Anne is in charge.
She has slashed the budget and now it’s all taking place in a Conference Centre in Slough

Fabulous
