Perranporth,Cornwall , a place to avoid if you don't like dogs

Sounds like my kind of place.We go to Crosby beach often as family live near there.I spend most of my time litter picking after the humans have left all their waste ,and yes some dog owners don't pick up which is infuriating. But the amount of plastic,takeaway rubbish is a disgrace.

Why do we have priority? Dogs love beaches and the sea. Are they to be completely deprived in your opinion? There are many dog free beaches, give the poor dogs a break! We are so much better theses days. Most people pick up dog poo and are respectful of restrictions. In my youth everyone let their dogs roam anywhere, they just came home for their tea!

I agree that most places to stay in Cornwall seem to accept dogs. It took us ages to find a dog free guest house but we have been several times now.

We don't go to beaches much in the summer but I carry a police approved dog deterrent on places like busy beaches.

Do your research before booking infoman. Then you can find a resort where dogs are not allowed on the beach during certain months. I have no sympathy for someone who doesn’t think about this. Here in Norfolk dogs are not allowed on some beaches in certain months. It’s not difficult to research and choose accordingly.

I lived in Perranporth 60-63. I don’t remember the dogs, just the beautiful beach. I personally can’t understand anyone taking dogs onto a public beach.

I love Perranporth, with or without dogs.

The issue is that a very large % of the properties to let in Cornwall allow dogs to stay.
No point booking a place only to walk round the streets with the dog.

I think the designation as "dog friendly" means just that OP so hardly surprising.
I am sure there are plenty of dog free beaches as alternatives.
We used to prefer Cornwall out of season precisely so that our Lab could enjoy a good run on usually deserted beaches.

I go often, and there are hundreds of beaches in Cornwall, so I’ve got no problem with a few of them allowing dogs to run free - dog owners from miles around go to Perranporth because it’s a designated dog friendly beach so they can, although you do have to keep them on a lead in the summer.

If you don’t like dogs, check before you set off to make sure a beach is not dog friendly.

Many of the most popular beaches here on Tyneside and in Northumberland are dog-free in the Summer months, usually from 1st May until 1st October. The vast majority of dog owners are responsible and do comply. Unfortunately, there's always a small minority of the usual suspects who try to give all of us a bad name.

Perranporth is a huge beach. I used to live 30 seconds' walk from it and although I don't like dogs I didn't find them a nuisance because of all the space.

Dog-free beaches are seasonal here in Brighton and Hove. Restrictions are in place from March to October and are enforced by patrols, as is the dogs-on-leads rule.

As always, no problem with the dogs but I despair of their owners on occasions!
