Good Morning Everyone,
Its looking grey cloud but remains dry here in brackley this morning.
Todays plan is to be a couch potato until around 4 this afternoon , I will watch the Coronation until 1 , and then watch the 1st stage of the Giro d`Italia cycle race .
Although I normally go to Bicester and have a breakfast bap despite the cafe being open , have decided otherwise but will get a Chinese Take Away later .
Take Care,
Mick

Liberty - we were in Aldeburgh last Tuesday too and also saw the Three huge planes. We might have walked right past each other. 👋

Good morning everyone from cloudy and wet Lancashire. The weather forecast is dire so we will be pottering indoors.

I hope all those travelling and celebrating have a good day.

Good morning Michael and all GNs. Wyllow has given you our weather. I’m late on parade today. DD has just brought me a cup of coffee as I stayed here last night . We went to the theatre to watch “An Inspector Calls”. It was a weird, noisy production, but I suppose with a much staged play, it’s difficult to make something new out of it. And there was no interval so when I got up at the end I could hardly move! I will watch the Coronation today in more comfort than I did as a seven year old when all the local children piled into the local greengrocer’s living room to watch it on a very small B & W set! We were more entranced with the technology than the occasion I think.
I suppose I ought to get up! Have a happy day everyone.

Good morning from dreary cloudy Harrogate
Glad you are now happy in your flat, GrandMattie. It’s been a while.
Sorry your DH is plagued with a cough Ashcombe they can be quite debilitating.
I’ll have to crack on now with more baking to do. I did the savoury baking yesterday, it will be biscuits and cakes today. It would help if a few more people would say whether they are coming or not!! I’ll have the TV on in the kitchen so I can watch most of it.
We had a couple from NewZealand popped in yesterday for a cuppa, interesting hearing their take on the happenings over there.
Have the best day possible folks

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Wyllow3 Sat 06-May-23 09:07:16

Good Morning from S Yorks, where it's lovely and sunny, which seems a bit unfair for the folks in London.

Having my usual quiet day - will watch highlights - got my lovely hairdresser this morning for cut dry and natter.

Best wishes for poorlies, those glued to settee, and family get togethers. That was a difficult night Susan.

Oopsadaisy1 Sat 06-May-23 09:01:34

Good morning Mick and all from a very wet night and day from our part of Oxfordshire,

MissOops and dog, possible Nephew too will be over later to watch the highlights of the Coronation, I enjoy watching the clothes and finery, also the marching bands, the crowning of Charles and Camilla? not so much.

Have a good day everyone, let’s hope some sun shines today, love and hugs for those who aren't feeling so chipper.

Good morning all from Stockport.
What memories are being revived today.
Grandmadinosaur I am the same age as your mother would have been, I have told this tale before on GN , after watching the ceremony on our neighbours tiny tv, we young people went the village "middle bit" in the pouring rain just to be together and my friend's older brother mamed Tom kissed me in a shop doorway.
Unlike your parents that was the end of it, such happy innocent days.
I hope you all enjoy your day whatever you are doing.
I am once again going to a neighbours house to watch but just the two of us today.

Good morning all from a very foggy Angus coast - it makes it easy to give over the day to couch potato-dom! I was 11 at the Queen's coronation and remember it well as we all went to Auchtermuchty (as you do) to watch it on a friend's TV. At one point the new Queen looked directly at me and waved!! (Or so I 🤔). I remember receiving a pencil case tin, and a cup, saucer and plate, there was a pageant in the grounds of the local estate and we also did a Commonwealth pageant at school during which I carried the flag of New Zealand. In those post-war days it was all quite a thing.
I shall be watching today of course - having been connected to the military all my adult life it's the wonderful parade of military excellence, and the bands, that really draws me.
Oh, forgot to mention - I got my car back yesterday, complete with new clutch, in exchange for an eye-wateringly large sum of money. It feels so lovely to know it's sitting there on my drive again, at my beck and call.
Have a wonderful Coronation Day everyone!

Bigred18 Sat 06-May-23 08:56:35

Nanna8, hope it's not Angela Rippon you are listening to - change channels. She is terrible!

ginny Sat 06-May-23 08:48:01

Good morning everyone.
No rushing about today.
We will watch the main bits of the coronation and then attend the neighbourhood party.
Hope you all enjoy today in any way you prefer.

Jaxjacky Sat 06-May-23 08:42:13

Good morning from a drizzly S Hants, shame as there’s an event in the local park, the youngsters won’t mind.
I’ll be watching the Coronation, MrJ will busy himself about.
A dynamic day getting settled gMattie your daughter is a gem.
Enjoy family catch-ups baubles, there’ll be no lack of sustenance.
Enjoy your day all, whatever you’re doing 🥂🦩🦩.

aggie Sat 06-May-23 08:42:12

Good Morning , overcast chilly here
A morning in the greenhouse beckons , potting up and tidying
At the time of the last Coronation I was a teenager , fascinated by the prettiest Queen ever , I don’t remember seeing the coronation till much later in the cinema

Grandmabatty Sat 06-May-23 08:37:06

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 9° and wet. It looks like it's on for the day. Ash I'm glad you arrived safely. Marydoll don't overdo it! Baubles have a lovely family trip. Susan your poor dgd..I hope she's alright now.
Yesterday I didn't feel well at all, so rested a lot. I picked up my prescription from the pharmacy. I only phoned to order it on Wednesday and had a text on Thursday evening to say it was ready. Good service indeed. Then I went to Aldi for food and spent more than I planned.
Today I will potter about, doing washings and housework and dip into the coronation spectacle. Salmon salad for dinner later. Have a good day all.

Liberty Sat 06-May-23 08:33:44

Good morning all from a dry and slightly sunny Suffolk after torrential bouts of rain yesterday. Like most of you we’ll be watching the actual ceremony and probably the balcony appearance and fly past, weather permitting.

On Tuesday I was in Aldeburgh with 2 friends for the monthly Arts Society lecture and as we walked along the seafront to a pub for lunch there was a formation of 3 huge aircraft flying extremely low. They came in over the sea, circled round the town and back out to see. One of my friends late husbands was a pilot in the RAF so she is quite knowledgable about planes and apparently they were Hercules and were practising for today’s fly past. So special to see them and so close to us.

How life has moved on in 70 years. I remember 1953 well. I was 7 and there was only 1 family in the Close who had a tv. Their house, like ours, was a typical 1930s semi and all the neighbours crammed into the sitting room, children sitting on the floor with our flags and adults behind. I can’t imagine we sat still, though, for 3 hours!

Hope today is a good one for all.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 06-May-23 08:27:34

Morning all

My spot on the sofa is reserved, I shall be watching the Coronation 👑👑

I enjoy the pageantry and I love seeing the women in their finery.

Have a good day folks 🙋‍♀️🦩

EkwaNimitee Sat 06-May-23 08:25:39

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny Carlisle.
I'm back from Sainsbury's where I was one of the first in. How great to drive through the city with barely any traffic, all the lights changing for me as I approached.
Interesting to see the lack of coronation goodies in store, I thought they might have whipped up some red white and blue iced cakery at the least. Thankfully there are none of the pink white and blue ice cream bars I remember from the last coronation, the blue looking unenticing and tasting sickly.
The TV will be on shortly but I won't be glued to it for hours, just the processions and actual ceremony. The commentators have been annoying me on the radio since 7am....maybe they are paid by the word!
Do enjoy the day, everyone, whatever you're doing.

ShazzaKanazza Sat 06-May-23 08:23:14

Foxygloves I enjoyed seeing Matt this morning. Thankyou.

ShazzaKanazza Sat 06-May-23 08:21:45

Good Morning Mick and everyone from Hull. It’s rained overnight so the garden looks good.

I will be turning on the tv just before half 10 for the King’s procession. DH isn’t fussed to watch though wishes them well he’ll go to the gym. Later we are possibly going to watch the little ladies for a couple of hours as DD is doing an extra shift at work and SIL is meeting friends.

Have a happy coronation day everyone enjoy your celebrations. 🌻👑

Ziplok Sat 06-May-23 08:21:08

Good morning,
The sun keeps trying to shine here, but there’s a lot of cloud about and rain is forecast for later.
Shall watch the Coronation later and then DH and I will enjoy an afternoon tea to celebrate 🎉🇬🇧.
Whatever your plans, whether watching the Coronation or not, I wish you a pleasant day.

Grandmadinosaur Sat 06-May-23 08:19:50

Good morning all from sunny East Yorkshire. Not put the Tv on so don’t know what it’s like in London.

Coach potato here today. I have a buffet for 2 to put together first. Missing my mum today as we always watched proceedings like this together and made a buffet together. She was 15 when she met my dad at the street party for the Queen. Happy memories.

Enjoy the day everyone.

brook2704 Sat 06-May-23 08:17:31

Enjoy your day everyone and may you all find some ☀️

NanaDana Sat 06-May-23 08:02:46

Good morning all, from a bright but slightly misty Tyneside. I do hope that the weather is kind to Westminster today. I'll certainly be watching the procession and the ceremony, but I'm already tired of the constant punditry in which we're almost treated as being unable to comprehend what is right in front of us. There is a happy medium, and this isn't it. Some commentators appear to think that they're being paid by the word. Oh for the likes of the late great, Richard Dimbleby, who certainly proved that "less is more". I can always mute the telly occasionally. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to sharing in what is most certainly a significant moment in our social history, and no-one does ceremony like the Brits..

Pittcity Sat 06-May-23 07:59:51

Good morning from a grey, damp Colchester. Cooler than yesterday too.
DH has the TV on and we'll watch the Coronation events.
We'll open the windows to listen to the gun salute which will be taking place 2 minutes from our front door and may stick our heads out to watch the flypast go over, weather permitting. The next door park has a family Coronation picnic today but I don't think it'll be crowded as it's too damp.
Love to all 🦩 x
