Well I thought I would start this thread for those who are going to sit back and enjoy the day.

At the beginning of my life -I was 6 years old, I was at Hyde Park Corner under a policeman’s cap, in the pouring rain, now at 77 I am at home in front of the television.

I shall enjoy every minute of it. Just watching the guests arriving.

I found this very touching…

They clearly are a team, wonderful to see.

I hope they get many happy, healthy years together in their new roles.

Isn't that lovelysmilethanks for bringing that to my attention or I wouldn't have known.

Oh blossoming. I’ve just seen the dogs! What a lovely touch.

Agree with all the comments about Penny Mordaunt. I’m not a fan of her as a politician but she was perfect in her role today. She must have muscles in her arms like knots in cotton, as my DM would say, carrying that heavy sword for so long. And her outfit was fabulous.

I’m a complete sucker for pageantry and lapped up all the pomp and ceremony, though it was worth tuning in just for the splendid music. It’s lovely to read all the positive comments - unlike on Mumsnet which is full of whinging about it being boring.

I really enjoyed it. The military were faultless as usual - under Vern Stokes’ watchful eye they wouldn’t dare be anything else. And such a good touch to use the gardens for a muster and three cheers. I think the King was visibly touched. The choirs in the Abbey were wonderful; the wall of sound that is the opening bars of Parry’s “I Was Glad” always raise the hairs on the back of my neck, and today I burst into tears. I remember they sang it when Kate Middleton walked into the Abbey with her dad, and one of the pages holding her train was seen to mouth “Oh Wow!” It definitely was “Oh Wow” today. DH would have loved it all. I hope he was somewhere watching.

It was beautiful and I did get teary a few times. Suddenly I appreciated the psychological weight that came down on Charles` shoulders. The words today explained it all to me. Very historical and also very inclusive and simplified. I would not have missed it for the world

Really enjoyed it, my sister and I went to watch it with my 88 year old mum who lived every moment.
The children were so good, especially Charlotte. Agree Penny Mordaunt was an absolute star and her outfit was perfect. Love the military hip hip hooray and the balcony scenes. Shame the weather spoilt the fly past but it was a great day. Bet everyone involved will be ready to relax with a drink this evening.

One for FannyCornforth. I’m not particularly interested in the royals but I love anything to do with costume, style and needlework. I spotted this on Twitter.

Camilla has the two rescue dogs embroidered onto her coronation gown.

A job well done…🥳🥳

I liked the way Penny Mordaunt was singing the National Anthem as she processed at the end.

She looked great, and was marvellous in her role.

I thought little Louis was very well behaved. I saw him with his parents and Charlotte while George was with the other Pages.

Later I noticed he had disappeared from the audience. I think he must have left after William went to take the Crown to Charles. He did very well to endure all those hours at such a tender age.

He came back again later and was there when they came out in the processation.

Well, wasn't that marvellous! I loved every minute of it. DH and I had our daughter, son in law and the four grandchildren here to watch on our TV. I made a buffet lunch and we've had a lovely time.
The horses pulling the State coach looked magnificent, and the music both inside Westminster Abbey and the military bands outside were superb. Pity about the weather, but hey ho!

Serendipity22 Sat 06-May-23 15:37:11

It was absolutely wonderful, tears were rife when Charles
was crowned King. The whole of everything made me proud to be British but i couldn't shake the thought of toilets as I watched in wonder at the scenes that were unfolding from my TV, but that was a mere thought that soon disappeared and the pomp, pageantry and pride took first place ...

I thought India Hicks dress was gorgeous, so elegant in an understated way.

Lovely material.

Me too. Beautiful.

Thank you so much for this thread WWM2. I have really enjoyed reading everyone's posts.

Thought Penny Mordaunt looked just right and was composed, although at one point I noticed she was blinking a lot as though trying to hold back tears.

The children were all gorgeous and well behaved, whether royal or in the choir. The music was wonderful. I enjoyed seeing all the clothes .... a most enjoyable morning.

I had sound interference and wondered if it was the weather. relieved that it wasn't just me.

I don't think anyone could doubt the sincerity of Charles' vows; definitely a lifelong commitment, like his mother.

Juicywords

We did right at the beginning, a fragmented screen too, but it could have been due to our aerial not being pushed back in correctly after yesterday's thunderstorms.

Aveline Sat 06-May-23 15:09:33

juicy words we had no problem with sound quality. Maybe it's a more local problem for you?

maddyone Sat 06-May-23 14:53:08

Totally agree about Penny Mordaunt. She was wearing a gorgeous outfit too.

Yes we did, right from the beginning, I was worried we were going to lose it altogether.

Foxygloves Sat 06-May-23 14:37:50

I just hope the sight of the thousands(?) tens of thousands(?) filling the Mall and in front of Buckingham Palace , cheering, waving, shouting and singing God Save the King will finally disabuse the naysayers, the meh-sayers and those who thought this would be a damp squib.
Damp it certainly was - was no squib!

Calendargirl Sat 06-May-23 14:37:04

Thought the balcony scene was very poignant for Charles, brought home how now it really is him, first time without his mother there.
