Well I thought I would start this thread for those who are going to sit back and enjoy the day.

At the beginning of my life -I was 6 years old, I was at Hyde Park Corner under a policeman’s cap, in the pouring rain, now at 77 I am at home in front of the television.

I shall enjoy every minute of it. Just watching the guests arriving.

Who was the woman sitting next to the king at the concert, the one in the turquoise outfit?

Baroness Patricia Scotland (Scotland is her surname) who is Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations.

patricia scotland has caribbean ancestry, and a role that is something to do with the commonwealth.
there were some questions about patronage, inc papal honours, a few years ago.
but it was all someone else . . .
baroness scotland is a catholic.

I agree too nanna.

Baroness Scotland was brought up in Walthamstow.

Bizziebe Thu 11-May-23 18:52:10

Was it Baroness Scotland? Though I don't think she has anything to do with that country?

I think that woman making the comments is the racist here. She is obviously overly concerned with the colour of peoples’ skin and obsessing about it. She should be ashamed of herself.

At one time during my life I and my chums took a lot of notice of a man who had a beard as this was very unusual, as were people with black or very brown faces. However we did not associate a bearded man or black people with anything bad or inferior.

It seems rather hard that it's illegal to comment on one aspect of appearance and not on another. I think the safest and politest thing to do is not comment at all on personal body shapes, ages, weights, sexes, or skin colours.

Smileless2012 Thu 11-May-23 08:55:12

A ridiculous comment and she's only succeeded in making herself look foolish.

Aveline Thu 11-May-23 08:54:28

I suspect she must be bitterly regretting her comment and the resulting restriction on her career opportunities.

Primrose53 No white person would dare make any such remark. If they had they would have howling crowds, of mainly white people, outside their home doing damage to it and to them and anyone associated with them.

Bizziebe Wed 10-May-23 20:42:44

If Adjoa Andoh had waited 24 hours before commenting she would have realised how inappropriate her statement was.

Primrose53 Wed 10-May-23 20:24:06

OFCOM have received nearly 5,000 complaints about what Adjoa Andoh said. That is the biggest complaint they have had this year.

She has certainly annoyed a lot of viewers. I wonder how many complaints there would have been if a white person had said the balcony looked “terribly black.”

We need some more arranged marriages for the younger Royals now.

Who's likely to get married next? Let's start a list of possible suitors, whether they love them or not.

I'm sure Serena Williams' daughter age 5 could be introduced (by MM) to Louis also age 5 when the time is right.
Game, set, match! 🎾 👑

surely serena williams daughter will marry archie!

ronib Wed 10-May-23 19:29:59

Well the last arranged marriage was hardly a great success. Best not.

Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor would be a good candidate. She’s about 19.

Back in Queen Victoria’s day, she used to sort out prospective spouses for her family.

Perhaps the Princess Royal could have ‘Diverse Marriage Arranger’ added to her list of official duties.

I don’t know whether to laugh or dispair at Adjoa Andoh (of Bridgerton fame) stating the bleeding’ obvious by commenting on the ‘terribly white’ balcony, referring to ‘all the young people.’

Seeing as they all have white parents and the only mixed race member of the RF has turned her back on the UK, I fail to see what she’s getting at.

There are a couple of mixed race children in the RF but nobody’s allowed to see them. 🤔🤔

So by that token, all those in GN who had a single coloured top table at their wedding are racist. That makes me racist (I didn’t have any non-white friends till after my marriage.)

Could we argue that any non-white invitees are racist for refusing to attend?

Well the coronation ceremony couldn't have been more diverse and invlusive.Charles can't win.He can hardly change his immediate family that were their on the day can he ?!

Bizziebe Wed 10-May-23 16:30:06

It's not as though Charles could select any members of his own family to make the balcony less terribly white, because he hasn't got any.
Or none who are willing to support him.
