What everyday irritations make you really grumpy?

Today is the first genuinely lovely day we’ve had here this year, cloudless blue sky, low pollen count, warm and, for once, just a gentle breeze. This would be ideal for lunch in the garden if only someone nearby had not decided that today was the perfect opportunity to indulge in a lengthy spot of angle grinding. I want to go and scream at them and tell them just how much they are spoiling my day. Of course I won’t. So I’ll just sit inside and let off steam here instead.
What winds you up?

When I get to the automatic check out in shops and it says there is an unauthorised item in my shopping bag when there clearly isn’t but you have to wait whilst the shop assistant re keys the computer. I have stopped going to a couple of big shops because of it and I always complain now and compare them with Aldi where it quicker and cheaper and you get served by a human !They don’t like that.

They never like my robust fabric bags anyway, even when there’s no previous shopping in them. Seems they only like relatively weightless plastic supermarket bags.
I now scan everything first, and pack once I’ve paid. But I only use self checkout for relatively few items.

Oh, and I always take my receipt! - I learned that the hard way after being once stopped by security at the exit, because of a small security tag on the underside of the item. I hadn’t noticed, and there had been no alert for someone to come and remove it.

Seeing people stopping and cleaning up dog poo putting in their little bag and swinging it happily as they go up the street having left a bloody great smear on the street. Yuk. We trained our dog to go in our garden which was cleaned up straight away and washed down. When we then went for a walk in a public place we left nothing behind.

I dislike the expression passing when someone dies.

So useful to me the complaints about barbecues, noisy kids, noisy this and that. I was considering moving but now I see that my unseen unheard unsmelled neighours are to be treasured.

Adverts. Cant stand them. Any of them.

Watch the Christmas Supermarket ones and that is about it, for the entire year.

Customer service - or rather, lack of it, or lack of professionalism from those who should have been better trained.
I had to contact the car insurance company. There was just one small question I couldn’t answer, so I had to ring back with the information. They insisted on starting again from scratch, going over the same ground for another 25 minutes. Then they send me three separate letters with contradictory information.

The house getting untidy/dirty again minutes after I've just cleaned it.

Someone going outside after I've locked up for the night and not relocking the door, leaving it unlocked all night.

Me being the only one ever to put the rubbish out/bring the dry washing in if it looks like rain/put shoes away from the front (or back) hall, oh so many things!

I try not to get grumpy over stuff these days. It’s pretty pointless.

Moaners - I can’t stand it when you bump into somebody in the street, start what you hope will be a nice conversation but all they do is moan about parking/young people/dogs/their health/the Council/the weather. The trouble is, they never do anything about any of it, they just keep moaning.

Bit like this thread then Casdon grin

Whoops, I honestly didn’t think about that! I was thinking of the no escape situation where you feel rude if you try to escape after 30 seconds when they start.

Kim19 Sat 13-May-23 19:34:21

Very good, sodapop! I try hard not to sweat the small stuff but it does irritate me when people park over my drive (yep, even when my car is in there)

MerylStreep Sat 13-May-23 19:31:22

Sodapop
I have nothing to add after moaners ‘nuff said 😉

Today was the first really dry day for a while so the wahing could be hung out to dry.
Sadly some of it has been covered in seagull poo. which is especially horrible and sticks to cloth fibres.
So washing now needs to be rewashed.
This is not a rare event.
The seagulls also like to "decorate" clean washed windows.

I despise seagulls now.

The appalling grammar and diction on television and the noise of children. Fortunately there are no children living or visiting nearby and the remote control is to hand.

At the moment, I'm just irritated by everything and everyone. grin

Redhead56 Sat 13-May-23 18:03:35

Litter I loathe people who drop litter it's a disgrace and fly tipping is as bad.
Lawn mowers that seem to be on for ages even though they are only small lawns. Why do people drag it out they must have boring lives.
People who have dogs but don't clean up after them.
Staff in shops who when serving customers moan how bored they are. They should be grateful they have a job the list is endless.

Auntieflo Sat 13-May-23 17:49:17

AGA4. Do you have a balcony? You need a flower trough on the corner and just happen to water it when the conversations start up . Sorry!

My peeve at the moment is the owner of the next door house, which is rented out, and the owner will just not repair the fences which are falling down and look disgraceful. How he commands the rent charged is beyond me.

Fleurpepper Sat 13-May-23 17:46:29

I get very upset about child and animal cruelty- but on day to day living- I can get a bit irritated, but never really grumpy.

Blossoming Sat 13-May-23 17:42:02

Childproof pill packs. I’ve just been counting mine out for the next couple of weeks. I may have said “botheration” or similar words a few times.

lixy Sat 13-May-23 17:39:43

Barbeques and bonfires during the day - especially if I've got washing on the line. That is guaranteed to produce a good 'grump' here!

MrsKen33 Sat 13-May-23 17:36:52

SquirrelSue we once went to a wedding at a lovely old church. Afterwards as we came out we saw the mother of the bride sitting cross legged on a tomb smoking a cigarette. I have never forgotten the sight

I'm lucky my neighbours are nearly all at work in the week so i enjoy the quiet in the garden so i don't begrudge them their music, DIY, BBQs etc at weekends. Traffic is what annoys me more than anything and there is a lot of it where I live sadly.

Georgesgran Sat 13-May-23 16:52:27

Most of the above! People seem amazed that dogs can be taught to not bark. Hate seeing half dressed people swigging beer from cans in the street too. I’m ok with the sounds and smells of Summer as long as neither is excessive.

Disgruntled from Durham.
