My husband is a keen amateur landscape photographer and often spends a night alone in a hotel when he’s away on a shoot.

Some hotels do have single rooms and usually 20-30 per cent cheaper than a double, but you do have to look for them.

Some hotels do have single rooms with no surcharge so you might be lucky to find a suitable one where you fancy going.
Alternatively a lot of cruise ships have single cabins. We have met lots of folk on cruises who are on their own and they have all said how much they have enjoyed the experience despite initial trepidation.

Business cater to the majority to maximize business

Majority is double room with no accessibility accommodations, for example

There could have some suites with a bedroom and living room for families with older kids

Whiff, you are not being penalized

A family who needs a roll in shower for a person with a wheelchair or no other options to take care of their loved one - that is being penalized because demand and supply doesn't match

A deaf person who has a standard phone in the room and no needed modifications- that is another valid case of supply and demand

You are just not happy the industry does base their price on the number of occupants in a room, because that would benefit you

I find in Asia the hotel price is for the room not for the person.

I’ve only stopped in hotels i don’t feel like I’m being charged any difference but I’m sure if you go on a cruise you will pay more but I could be wrong so don’t quote me on it lol

Hotels and B&Bs are businesses, it makes financial sense not to discount for a single person.

The room still has to be heated, cleaned and the linen changed whether occupied by one or two people.

That is not my experience. I’ve just randomly googled for a hotel in Aveiro, Portugal for a couple of nights in June, and can get a king sized bed room for one person for £44 a night, same room for two, £47.50 a night It’s not much of a reduction, but it’s not paying more.

I’ve expect I could find bigger reductions if I lived pled for a single room.

I suppose it is because they have to give a room to one person instead of twin-share so one less person purchasing meals, services etc. It seems to be the norm these days, more so since Covid and always the case here in Australia. I agree, it seems unfair and costly.
