Can't possibly imagine my lovely daughter having any other name than what we gave her! But now and then I see a name in a book etc and think "that would be a fab name". I like the name Dale, for a boy or a girl.
Good Morning Tuesday 21st April 2026
If you had children /more children, what names would you use today?
We have a pussy cat called Freja , love that name but we didn't have enough children to use it. I also like many of the Celtic names like Lachlan.

GLAMMANANNA, that has made me laugh so much 🤣🤣🤣
If my 3rd sin had been a daughter, we like Anya Eileen, after my favourite book character and my adopted Mum.
My first son is David Andrew (after the chap who introduced me to his Dad, and his Dad's second name)
The 2nd one is Scott Philip, after his Dad's hero Scott Crossfield, and Phillip meaning 'lover of horses' to acknowledge my love.
#3 is Gareth Jack, for my Welsh heritage and his paternal grandfather.
Bridie, I always loved it, and strangely enough my daughter said she loves it too, so maybe for a granddaughter?
My computers are called Suleiman, Imran, Vader and Neelix.
They need names because they are part of a network.
1970s and 80s
Funny how we associate certain names with certain people, too. When I was expecting my first we had a name picked out for a boy. Thank goodness he was a she because the name we had chosen is now associated with a dishonest politician around in the 1960 s and 80 s.
Because you gave him happiness Aldom!
For the second name I wanted Carenza. Didn’t get as far as a third (my son has three).
Boys names, Nate. jesse. Girls names Tori, Audrey
Ooops. Felicity.

I’m still pleased with the names chosen for my son. If I had had a daughter her first name would have been Felicity.
My father always called me Fellicity, although it isn't my name.
I have some beautiful ( I think ) aunts names that I’d love to see come through again. Iris, Clarice, Maud, Esmee, Myrtle.
I had my son's first name earmarked for a girl, which ends in dra instead of der, and invariably the same diminutive is used for male and female. No 2 choice, still hoping for a girl, Catherine, it was my maternal grandmother's name, one of my mother's names and one of my names. I did also want Domenico for a boy, which was my paternal grandfather's name, maybe as a middle name, but once you do one side of the family, I think you're kind of obliged to do the honours for the other side, but decided against it on that basis, but I regret not going with Domenic now which my husband was very agreeable to, in fact he mooted it. I also had Sebastian lined up for number 2, which my husband flatly refused to consider, said it sounded foppish, remembering Sebastian Flyte from Brideshead Revisited, not foppish in Europe though was my response!, anyway slipped it in as a middle name, not that number 2 is at all grateful for my inspired choice
I don't think he hates it though.
GSM - snap- only it wasn't to be ( see earlier post as to why !)
I'm descended from a long line of Irish Catholic blacksmiths, who fled here during the potato famine, and first set up shop in Southampton. My DH has similar roots, and has a Scots/Irish surname. When our children were born in the early to mid seventies, although we would have liked to give them Celtic Christian names, their birth years coincided with some of the worst terrorist atrocities in Northern Ireland, so we decided against it. Sad really, as we really liked some of the names we originally chose. So our Son and two Daughters ended up with second choice names. We've told them since, and two of them were quite disappointed, as they preferred our original choices. They could see why we'd done it, though. Those were bad times for everyone involved, and there were no winners. Such a tragic waste.
We called our daughter after a friend who was both beautiful and talented ,my mother hated the name and called baby by her middle name for months until she realised it was none of her business what we called our child .
Our son was named after his great grandfathers it was agreed between my OH's granny and me years before he was conceived that if I had a boy we'd call him after her late husband .My OH loved his grandpa so was happy with it and the other name which we never used was the name of two GGF's .The name we used was often remarked on as being old fashioned but its not really here in Scotland its traditional thoughand it suits him to a t
We had several pretty girls names sorted - so I was bound to have a boy, wasn’t I?
This was 1992. I loved the name Danielle - after a girl in junior school who had glossy, dark, auburn long hair! I was very envious of her.
We only had one name sorted for a boy - Christopher.
I was moved to tears by my 2nd son's choice of Iris as a second name for his 3rd daughter as it was my mother's name. In Germany, too. "old" names have made a comeback. Iris is unusual here but not unknown.
(And everyone has an Auntie Ida somewhere on the family tree just like in the UK.)
A further boy's name that I might have chosen which fits the criteria I mentioned above would have been Valentine. But I don't think I could have coped with 6 boys!

My daughter’s first name was the girl’s name I had chosen when I was at Primary School. Her second name is a beautiful name and I love it still. Her third name is my sister’s name. If I had known the name Araminta, I would have loved that. Elder son’s first name was chosen when I was at Primary School. His second name is one OH and I like. His third name is a family name on my side. Younger son has three names which we both love. In fact when I was expecting him, OH and I, with son and daughter sat in the garden and chose names. They have three Christian names each as OH and I felt deprived only having one! None of the three have our names and our granddaughter has three very unusual names. In fact her first name is generally a boy’s name, her second name is French and the third name is an informal military term.
Our son. Had a lovely girlfriend called Araminta (Mnty for short).
It is a beautiful name.
Our two grandchildren have very unusual Egyptian names, our 3 children have very traditional names, I wouldn’t change them.

I have always hated my own name, but someone told me it is gathering favour as a second name. It’s short and I can actually see the attraction of using it in that way nowadays.
When my 2nd son was born my OH brought in the two eldest to visit,we had named the new baby Ross and when DS1 saw him wrapped up with just a faint cast of ginger hair he commented that he looked like a fishfinger!!! every time I looked into the crib I saw a fishfinger looking back at me so OH and I had a hasty change of name before the registrar came to register the birth,we did however get the name Ross for our 4th DGS .
My oldest son had a name that couldn’t be shortened. For years, my family added -ie and lengthened it instead. Drove me mad.
My youngest son hates his birth name and always has, so since he was a small child, he’s gone by something else. Given the chance. I’d have called him a different name, definitely.
We chose names that couldn't be shortened, for our sons. The girls' names, liked at the time, were Dawn, Jade and Layla.
We didn’t get to have any boys, just 4 girls but we have several grandsons and great grandsons and they all have nice names, mostly pretty traditional ones. No concocted ones, thank goodness !
We had another cat we called Declan , don’t mind that either.
