Sorry that was rude.
Welcome back kitty
Foxy I hope your back has eased.

Jaxjacky Fri 14-Jul-23 20:03:00

My daughter is fuming, she contacted DofE this morning as we’re on a weather warning here until midnight tomorrow, they assured her it would go ahead, they’ve just cancelled!

soop Fri 14-Jul-23 19:45:38

I love you ALL. You are never far from my thoughts. smile

Welcome Foxygloves and welcome back kittylester.

kittylester Fri 14-Jul-23 19:27:20

As foxy has snuck back, am I allowed to show my face? I have been missing for ages. Whilst totally recovered physically from my hospital stay last year, my brain is still missing in inaction. Added to that, a very busy family is wearing me out.

I wanted to send love to everyone but, especially, to Soop, the founder of this lovely space.

dustyangel Fri 14-Jul-23 19:10:15

Thankyou all so much for your good wishes and prayers for my daughter, she is now safely home again and hoping to get a decent night’s sleep without the constant interruptions of a busy ward.
I’m sure her husband and dog are very happy to see her, especially as the dog has been on a sort of hunger strike by refusing his everyday biscuits and only eating the special ‘treat’ biscuits normally rationed for training purposes only. He’s obviously got her husband sussed.

I had a reality check when I gave DD1 the good news and found her on the phone to DGS in UK. It’s still 30° here now at just gone 7pm but DGS was trying to show us a sunflower in his rain soaked garden.
I hope you all have better weather over the weekend. sunshine

Foxygloves Fri 14-Jul-23 19:04:43

Sincerest sympathy also umbrellas, wellies and hot tomato soup to anybody unfortunate enough to be camping or involved in any outdoor activity today!
Rosie didn’t even want to cross the threshold and I didn’t get her out for a walkie until an hour ago when the rain eased.
Not that I have been in walkie mode- I don’t know why but my back went into a massive spasm this morning (getting up from the loo if that’s not TMI) and all I could do was hobble, bent double like a wizened crone over to the bed and collapse on it, fortunately the leccy blanket is still in situ and I could reach the switch.
I’ve spent the afternoon with a wheat pack and a hottie wedged between me and the sofa back but now I’ve looked out my electric shiatsu massager and it’s working on my lower back. Never thought it would come in so useful .
Sorry to whinge, but I have been very lucky and don’t normally “do ill “ and this has totally wiped out my plans for today. Worried about my forthcoming trip to Buxton Festival on Sunday to see La Somnambula - we shall see.
So apologies for coming back to the Kitchen just to have a moan.
I hope your mood is lifting Soop there is indeed much to depress us in the world, at home and away, just hoping a bit of stirring Sibelius (First Night of the Proms) will do the business.

Jaxjacky Fri 14-Jul-23 18:21:02

A horrible wet day here all day and decidedly chilly, so we’ve done little, I feel very slobbish.
I feel for Imogen who’s camping in the New Forest before orienteering tomorrow, final part of D of Ed. Mr J is playing in our pub charity golf tomorrow, storms and high winds, not my idea of fun!
Good to hear from you SueD I hope today has gone well with your GS. Ours don’t break up for another week.
I’m hoping, although sore, you’re not too bad today Yia.
Pax brook chicken and sweet potato curry here tonight, warming from the inside.

brook2704 Fri 14-Jul-23 17:54:14

Hoping your DD is home this afternoon Dusty 🤞

A had good class at the gym this morning, lots of chatter and laughter with the other ladies as well as a workout. I skipped the Aqua class and came home to mow the front and back grass that really needed doing. Chicken curry for dinner later, feel like I really need it!

Hoping grandmabatty has arrived safely and is enjoying warm sunshine and a wine or two

Hope your day with your DGS has gone well SueD, mine are all still on holiday until the end of next week so it’s very quiet here 😴

Hope you’ve had a good day Blossoming and hoping our dearest soop is ok too

Grannmarie Fri 14-Jul-23 14:37:59

Dustyangel, 🤞🙏💐, hoping and praying that your daughter gets home as planned.

Blossoming Fri 14-Jul-23 13:11:34

Foxygloves please don’t feel that your contributions are not worthy. I used to worry that I only seemed to moan about my ailments but I have been so warmly welcomed in here.

Yiayia falls in the shower are so nasty and really shake you up, hope the bruises are not too bad x

dustyangel Fri 14-Jul-23 12:13:59

Quick pop in to congratulate Pittcity on having a granddaughter to enjoy as well as her three lovely grandsons. 🌸

Thank you to everyone for the best wishes for my daughter, she hopes to be allowed home this afternoon but I’m not uncrossing my fingers until she gets there.

SueDonim Thu 13-Jul-23 20:29:33

Trying to catch up here - Corner I’m sorry your dh’s op was cancelled again. I so hope it goes ahead next time. 🤞I also hope your dil receives treatment very soon, too. Such a worry for you.

I’m glad you had a nice break, Yia. Have you read Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks? It’s a fictional account of Eyam and the plague. Hope the fall hasn’t shaken you too much. Have you tried arnica tablets and cream for the bruising?

Nannytopsy, yes, that was Happy Valley! There were wooden figures, things like the Cheshire Cat up a tree. All lit with coloured bulbs, which I thought so marvellous. We were easily pleased then. We also saw the show at the end of Llandudno pier - in the evening, no less! I went up on stage once, no idea why. 😂

Poor Soop, depression is grim especially when it seems to be taking over your life and you feel paralysed by it. Get well soon. flowers

LLFL I’m so sorry about your friend. flowers

Happy birthday for yesterday, Annsixty! Your talk of the mobility scooter reminds me of the aforementioned childhood visits to Llandudno and seeing the Mods and the Rockers and now I’m visualising you and your friend helling up the sea front!! 🛵 🛵😂

How lovely, Pittcity! 🩷

Hope your dd feels better soon, Dusty. I’ve heard from others that pancreatitis is a very nasty thing to suffer. flowers

Have a good holiday, GMBatty!

I chuckled at the pickled onion tale, *Neine! My 5yo GD loves pickled onions. I think it’s a very strange thing for a small child to eat!

I’m home again now. We drove back in one day and it was ok, 460 miles and it took us 9.5hrs with two stops. We had been going to stay in Yorkshire to see dd2 but she and her boyfriend both came back from France with Covid. 🦠 We enjoyed our stay in Hampshire, ds has a lovely house and garden, which kept me busy with secateurs etc! We also looked after the GC so ds and dil could go out, plus I met an old friend for lunch one day. It was very nice getting to know a new part of the world.

It’s a bit cooler here in Scotland, I’ve had to wear a cardi today. We’ve only had a few showers though and I managed to get out into the garden for a bit. My roses are blooming, I’m so happy about that! I transplanted some cosmos and some marigold seedlings too, which I hope will keep going until autumn.

I’ll be looking after GS tomorrow and then hopefully catching up with dd when we take him home in the evening. Also catching up with laundry, speaking of which, I must go and fold another load.

Happy dreams, everyone. Xxx

Naughtyneine Thu 13-Jul-23 20:28:21

Oh Yia no... You so needed a break away. Have you got any arnica to help with the bruising...? That said I swallowed my meds with a glass of Chenin Blanc. ( Don't hate me)
Foxgloves I too crept into this kitchen having been savaged on another thread. You will be welcomed and supported in equal measure...and we have all been where you are now...
LlfL... I'm envious..it sounds a perfect day

Grannmarie Thu 13-Jul-23 20:17:59

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people.
Safe journey and happy holidays, ✈️🏖 Grandmabatty, you've earned it! I'm glad your Mum's move went well.
Many congratulations on your baby GDD, Pittcity, such happy news!💕
YiaYia, I hope you recover quickly from your fall, its so easily done. Years ago I fell coming out of the bath at DS1 's I ended up with a huge bruise resembling the map of France on my derriere, couldn't sit comfortably for a while!
Happy days to those on holiday and love and prayers to those who need/wish them. 💕🙏
Welcome home, Foxygloves.
I followed Urms' recommendation on another thread and downloaded Pachinko. I'm hooked, housework had been abandoned today, I keep picking my Kindle up in between doggy walks and naps...
Granddog 🐕 is getting restless, another wee walk is due. Step away from the devices, Granmarie.🤣
TOYA, NNGB.

Jaxjacky Thu 13-Jul-23 20:13:01

Hi Foxygloves nothing is trivial if it drags you down.
Big ouch Yia you’ll be stiff for a while.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 13-Jul-23 19:44:12

Hello Soop🌺
Congratulations Pittcity!🍾
Happy birthday AnnS🎉
Hello Urms💐
OH and I had a lovely day. We went to the National Portrait Gallery and had a light lunch and then spent a couple of hours looking at our favourite portraits. Finally we headed off for the Afternoon Tea venue to use the voucher our daughter bought us for Christmas. It was a Gentleman’s Tea and included miniature Yorkshire puddings filled with beef and gravy + fish gougeons. Of course the usual sandwiches, scones with jam and cream and beautiful cakes, were included too. It is good to be home now. Milo and Ripley are 13 today so will have a special dinner.
Have a good evening.

Foxygloves Thu 13-Jul-23 19:31:05

May I tiptoe back into the Kitchen please Kitcheners?
I wouldn’t call it lurking but while I’ve been reading , I’ve not felt able to post, I’ve not always been in a good place for a variety of reasons - all quite trivial compared to what many of you are facing and coping admirably with, and I thought the last thing anybody wanted was whingeing from me, so when in doubt, said nowt.
However it’s a lonely place sometimes and perhaps I have only myself to blame, so here goes - commiserations to YiaYia Corner and Blossoming and Soop, Many Happy Returns to AnnSixty, congratulations to Pittcity on the new wee one and if I have missed anybody, please don’t take it amiss.
Not a lot to say though, just wanted to feel that I am perhaps no longer on the outside looking in at you lovely people. 🍰

Grandmabatty Thu 13-Jul-23 19:30:25

Yiayia what a shock for you. I do hope you aren't too sore. Mum has been moved to a local community hospital today. It's ten minutes away from my house which is pretty good. She was ok and the staff seem really nice. I'm getting good vibes. I've just had a cheese omelette for dinner. I've cleaned the entire house. There's no washing either so I feel very virtuous and ready for my holiday. Thank you all for the lovely posts. Have a good evening Kitcheners

brook2704 Thu 13-Jul-23 19:18:16

Oh Yia so sorry to hear you’ve fallen in the shower, hope your bruises ease soon and you’re ok again soon, take care x

Yiayia4 Thu 13-Jul-23 18:45:24

Good evening Kitcheners.Sending lots of love Soop and hope you feel a bit brighter soon.🌻
Happy Birthday Annsixty hope you’ve had a lovely day and enjoy your steak.🎂🎈🎈🍾
Thinking of you Corner.💐

We have had a nice few days away.Lovely food and comfortable rooms. We stayed at DS2 last night but, sadly I had a bad fall in the shower.DH had to rescue me as I couldn’t get up.😂Very bruised and shattered tonight so early night for me.
Have a wonderful holiday.Grandmabatty.
Hope you all have a peaceful evening.

Naughtyneine Thu 13-Jul-23 18:40:46

A new baby GD Pitt ... How wonderful. Welcome to the world little one. I got over my 3 CS much quicker than my forceps delivery..I had 2 in 17 months but it was still less painful than Keilland fircepsuand an episiotomy.
Happy Holiday GrandmaB... Enjoy making memories.
Dusty...I do hope your DD gets better very soon.
Brook... Boring people have tidy houses so I'm told. ( You lot already know my feelings about housework).
I've overdone it at the aqua class today and compounded it by gardening afterwards. I've just had to take the strong meds. Grrrrr. We've got moles in the garden and the novelty is beginning to wear off. Apparently putting pickled onions down the holes makes them go elsewhere but Finlay is such a little b....r that he'd be digging them up...
Have a good evening and love to all who are struggling.

Jaxjacky Thu 13-Jul-23 16:57:56

Afternoon, many congratulations pittcity good to hear both are well 👍
How worrying dusty a speedy recovery hopefully*.
Happy travels Grandmabatty ☀️
A showery day, unfortunately the slugs 🤮 like it, I nearly touched one on the recycling bin, made me shudder.
Hob cleaned, kitchen cupboards wiped down and more tomato pruning to let air and (what?) sun in on the fruits.
ttfn.

Blossoming Thu 13-Jul-23 16:32:21

Have a lovely holiday GrandmaBatty. Huge congrats to PittCity and family.

I’m sorry you’ve had more bad news Cornergram, I hope the surgeries go ahead soon and all is well flowers

brook2704 Thu 13-Jul-23 14:26:53

Soop sending you the gentlest of hugs and much ❤️
Hoping your DD2 is much better soon dusty
Corner hoping there’s some better news soon for your Dil and your DH, sending 💐

I’m just sat in the conservatory with my lunch and up pops the window cleaner, never know when he’s going to turn up. He’s probably looking in and thinking I’m being really lazy and should tidy tidy that big pile of dried washing that I plonked on the bed earlier and the breakfast dishes still on the kitchen worktops too! We’ve sunshine and showers here today and showers are winning and the weeds are growing fast

Ann pleased to hear you’re enjoying your holiday, take care on those scooters!
So exciting grandmabatty, hope the journey goes well and you have a really lovely holiday. I always think an early morning flight is good as there’s less chance of a delay. Safe travels and happy holidays!
