Dishwasher stinks!

Halved lemons work - as does filling the powder section with citric acid and running the empty machine on a service wash.
Alternatively dishwasher cleaner is effective.
I think grease gradually builds up even though I use all in one tablets.

I am wondering if there is something amiss further down the system. Drainage out here is bit rudimentary.

I don't always leave the door open as it gets in the way of standing at the sink.

I have sent off for some dishwasher cleaner on my next Tesco order. I did not know there was such a thing. Fingers crossed.

I've never noticed ours smelling, or the washing machine.

It's possible that the smell may be coming up from the drain, not your fault, it could be from further down the system; can you ring the Water Board and enquire?

We had problems a few years ago with the kitchen sink drain and the basin in the downstairs loo and called a plumber in the end. Apparently it was due to heavy rains he said 🤔
Not that we have heavy rain at the moment!

I used the white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda method (a cup of each down each drainhole) and it seemed to work.

I use lemons and limes in my cooking and if intact I put each half in the cutlery basket -changing them every three days .

It never smells .

Prior to that I used to use vinegar as a wipe and that's good too .

I've used a dishwasher cleaner after a heavy cooking session ie : roasts if I think that there's a lot of residue
from animal fat .

Otherwise the lemon and lime method works well .

DD does that too. The halves of squeezed lemons and limes; she just pops them in a top rack.
It seems to work.

It’s just stale water. Always leave the door slightly open when not in use.

Perhaps there is something stuck in the filter or outlet pipe? Perhaps get an engineer to look at it.

Could you get someone to put a camera down your drain?

My secret is to never to shut the door tight , after you empty it. Leave the door ajar. I use a tea towel on the door, so it doesn’t shut tight. Mine never smells. Also cleaning the sprays regularly. And ofcourse, use a dishwasher cleaner in a hot wash, once in a while.

We freeze citrus skins, use in 100s of ways.

I place one half lemon skin in dishwasher with the glassware. Mum did the same, in the washing bowl, pre dishwasher.

I stayed at someone’s spotlessly clean house and realised that their dishwasher had a sort of fat trap at the base of the door that they’d never noticed. It was gross!

My dishwasher doesn't smell. I clean the seals if I think about it. Same with the washer.

Our old dishwasher used to collect smelly sludge along hinge area/rubber seal at bottom of door - had to remove by wiping with paper towel.

A cup of vinegar and one of bicarbonate of soda on the top shelf and run empty on a hot wash. Cleaning inside as recommended weekly.

My son moved into a flat where the built-in dishwasher hadn't been used for months - so, when opened it smelled like a bad drain. We just couldn't get it clean so had to get the landlord to replace it.

I clean the arms and filters every week and wipe the edges and inside the door weekly . Once a month used a dishwasher cleaner. Been using my dishwasher 3 years it never smells. I use a washing machine cleaner once a month as well and always wipe round the seal and inside of the after use and leave the door open for couple of hours that also has never smelt.

Have you cleaned the arms and filters? If so, run it through a hot wash, adding a cup of white vinegar when it has filled.
