Products that really work.

To clean the bottom of a dirty iron - switch it on and rub a paracetamol on it, don't ask me how but it really works!

I have been told that paracetamol works for cleaning the bottom of irons. Use tweezers to hold the pills and it has to be solid tablets not the other sort. It even takes off the residue left behind from using bondaweb when sewing.

My steam iron responds very well to being stood in a shallow baking tray with about a quarter of an inch of white vinegar - it starts to fizz at once. Just enough to cover the soleplate. I leave it for about an hour, and the amount of gritty residue in the tray, along with the vinegar, is remarkable, given that we have a very efficient water softener. The steam holes are perfectly clean after this tratment.

I love Elbow Grease, Astonish products, Bar Keepers but I also like bicarbonate of soda with white vinegar. A pumice stone in toilets to remove limescale

I’ve got a couple of marks left over from blue tack residue on painted wall tried everything to remove

Unfortunately microfiber cloths aren't good for the environment, I use cotton cloths which can be washed at a high temperature and reused indefinitely, my adult children are somewhat amused that I'm still using their old terry nappies as cleaning cloths too 😂

HG Mould remover for black mould on shower tile grouting. It’s vicious stuff but it works.

Vanish solid bar for cleaning carpet and Magic Eraser sponges for lots of jobs.

Use hand gel ( ref (Covid) to get ballpoint pen marks off clothing. Leaves no ring. Excellent.

Wet and Forget on decking..Mine looks amazing now after one application

Love Liquid Gold for cleaning wooden furniture & is excellent on wrought iron outdoor furniture

I had some sauce pans with burnt bases to clean .

After soaking and scrubbing to no avail - I finally covered them with some out of date brown sauce and tomato ketchup and the burnt bits came off easily .

I dread to think what those sauces do to your insides !

At the moment , I'm struggling to get tea stains out of bedlinen - any ideas ?

Ace bleach and ace gentle bleach are outstanding on stubborn or washed in stains.

Wonderful, good old Jergens (hand and body) lotion - I’ve used it All My Life, works wonders with my body’s ph, moisturizes without being sticky, gluey or evaporate into nothingness. The Original scent - cherry almond.

My mother also used it forever BG (before Gundy) so it’s an iconic brand around for eons. Don’t know if you have it in England, but do give it a try if you do. Your skin will love you for it!

Washing soda (Borax, Borateem) in my laundry - it softens the water (meaning you don’t have to use quite as much laundry soap), attacks stains, gets whites and colors bright again. With washing soda and softened water, you NEVER have to use a fabric softener in your rinse.

But always do a second rinse for all loads for the freshest, cleanest clothes ever!

Lastly - Bar Keepers Friend for soap scum on shower doors, basins, toilet and in the kitchen for sinks, stovetops, etc.

Apparently it does.. My timber was quite dark and it has really lightened up.. It takes a few days to see the difference,,,, You can get it on Amazon and although it recommends a specific sprayer I used a watering can with a sprinkler head and that was fine..

Anyone know where I can get cheap glycerin? I used to buy bottles of it cheaply from the cough-mixture shelf in Boots - it’s amazing for greasy marks, especially leaky ballpoint pen. Now the cheap Boots ones have flavour in - which leave a stain 🙁 and the cake decorating bottles are tiny and expensive.
Also can I get actual Borax in England? I’ve tried the substitute and it’s not doing the trick, it used to be in the Aldi washing gel but they’ve changed that now too.

We use Wet and Forget on paving, ramblingrose. It works if taking a little longer than it does on wood. Best to apply when a few dry days are forecast. Mr C uses a standard hand held garden spray pump, no need for anything complex.

Oh please tell me that someone has the answer to cleaning the bottom of a dirty/ sticky iron. Lakeland no longer sell the wonder product " hot iron cleaner".

There's something called 'sticky stuff remover'. Not sure where I got it but it works.

I am also a fan of Method products but they are pricing themselves off the market so when they are on offer I stock up.

Hairspray gets biro marks out of fabric. I couldn’t believe this would work (had to buy a small size Elnett - I never use the stuff on my hair) but it does.
