Straw-like hair

Never had this problem before I started regularly having my hair highlighted. I never bothered with conditioner or "products" but now my hair looks like straw, no shine and just dull.

I read somewhere rinsing with vinegar but do they mean malt or white?? Done the cold water thing with no results. Any recommendations please for a nice shiny head of hair.

^trouble is, I’m so impatient I forget ‘product’, in shower, wash and condition hair, then out^

It makes me laugh when I go to the hairdresser when they ask "Would you like some product on your hair?"

I feel like asking "Which product? Floor cleaner, Persil, washing up liquid?"

I never know which product they mean either. So far, different hairdressers mean leave in conditioner,
mousse,
gel,
spray,
gloss or shine spray,
and the latest product I was offered turned out to be wax!
So far, they don’t do washing up liquid, but does anyone remember the beer shampoo?

Using a silk pillow case helps to keep the face and hair looking smooth 😊

Use a wide comb and let airdry
Oh, I wish I could!

Me too. If I don’t use a hairdryer my hair’s a shocking, limp mess. Ten minutes max with the hairdryer - straight and swooshy.

Mine makes Boris's hair look styled.

My hair, once thick, dark and full of body is now grey, fine and dry. As others have said conditioning is a must. Then I use an oil from the Aussie range, but the thing that makes the real difference is the Aveda leave-in conditioning spray. It protects from heat too and I also use it between shampoos. The Aveda spray has made such a big difference. My hair is shiny, moves with me and feels great. I get mine from M&S.

I stupidly let my friend ( a hairdresser ! ) bleach my long dark brown hair - not only was it carrot coloured , but also like straw .

I had a monthly trim for months trying to get rid if it .

Before washing , I massaged a little baby oil on the straw like ends and then washed it gently .

I must admit that it needed washing more frequently , but the lanolin in the baby oil restored the shine .

I haven't tried Argon oil , but I shall it might be better .

I used to wash my hair and clean my contact lenses with washing up liquid years ago, I was very short of money and hard lenses used to last for a year or longer.
Never use a hairdryer, my hair has a natural wave, I’m going to try the Argon oil, trouble is, I’m so impatient I forget ‘product’, in shower, wash and condition hair, then out.

I can't use shampoo or conditioner (allergies) so I mix a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a mug of warm water to clean my hair - then well diluted white vinegar for a conditioning final rinse. I have lovely shiny blonde/silver hair.

I blame Gransnet. I really shouldn't read these threads!

Blimey. I wouldn’t use Fairy Liquid on my hair.

I don’t colour my hair at all but it is dry. It’s also fine so I use a lot of hairspray as well as conditioner and mousse. This builds up after a couple of weeks and my hairdresser told me to use fairy liquid once a fortnight followed by shampoo. It works wonders! Apparently it breaks up the residue that builds up.

Fairy liquid?
Ouch!

I wash my hair daily, I poor a blob of a very gentle shampoo (baby shampoo is fine) in a cup and add water, mix well and poor over my already wet hair (in the shower). Wash very gently and rince abundantly. No conditioner. Then a towel around my head while I dry the rest of me. Use a wide comb and let airdry. I'm 65, have long hair, natural blonde starting to go grey. Never bleached or coloured. I do sometimes use a spray to bring in some summer-highlights.

Here

I like artichokes to eat too! 😋

Joseann Wed 07-Jun-23 16:57:09

Thanks. It was 22 euros here. I think they had the pouch refills, so I might go back for another.
There was also a narvellous massaging creme with artichoke in. The shop assistant explained it was great for heavy ? restless legs because it eases water retention (if I understood right?) I must try it.
Anyway, I can take orders if anyone wants!! 🇫🇷

Shampoo

£32 on their UK website

If it's cheaper there, bring back a year's supply!

Very lovely products for skincare too.

They have shops in Madrid and Milano ..

I would be veered to believe that they have shops in London as well.

Just for a bit of fun.....
I went for a swim in the sea where my hair looked liked straggly seaweed afterwards. Quick shower, and shampooed with a great L'Occitane product I picked up here yesterday. Super soft and shiny, very happy. Now to see if I can get it back home.

I've just done a l'Occitane order online, Joseanne but didnt look at the hair products.

Last C I bought a gift pack of MoroccanOil Argan oil and what I thought was shampoo from the hairdressers; the Argan oil is good but the shampoo turned out to be shower gel. I'm wondering whether to try it on my hair too.

Oh my gosh at never conditioning. Washing hair no more than twice a week is the recommended amount.

I do this and condition each wash. I then use a hair mask treatment once a week.

My hair has been a variety of colours for years even before any grey had crept in. Right now I have long copper hair with a blonde piece through the front. My hair condition is excellent. That is because I look after it going to the hairdressers every 6- 7 weeks for regular trims and roots doing.

I use Joico colourful shampoo and conditioner which is what my hairdresser uses.

Joico is available online from websites such as Look Fantastic. It looks expensive. It actually isn't as you need far less product than shop shampoos, conditioners etc.

The professional ranges aren't full of chemicals the high street brands are.

Also focus on scrubbing your scalp when you shampoo it. Thr actual hair doesn't need loads of shampooing.

Conditioner leave in whilst showering, wrapped in a towel, focusing on the actual hair and combing through. Wash off thoroughly giving your hair a brief cool blast of cooler water to finish

Finally make sure you have regular trims at the hairdressers to keep it in good condition. Regular trims keeps on top of split ends, enhancing growth and condition.
