When was the last time that you truly felt excited by something? I was thinking this yesterday and though I am pleased about certain things I don’t get excited about anything, is it an age thing? The last time I felt truly excited was in 2004!! we were very fortunate to be on the maiden voyage of Queen Mary 2 and I looked forward to it for ages. We had already had our first grandchild, that too was exciting, we have had four more since, though I was pleased but not exactly excited. Love to hear your thoughts.

Dreadful thing to happen but not long to wait now Patsy.

I'm excited. Our house was badly flooded before Christmas 2022 whilst we were on holiday. Totally wrecked kitchen and lounge. Took months to dry out. Two ceilings had to come down. I'm excited that the renovations are nearly completed. Just one more wall to be plastered and papered, then we can have carpet fitted and we'll have a lounge back!

The last time I was excited was a year ago today when my first great granddaughter was born. It's been an exciting year, watching her grow into a happy, sociable, near-toddler. Today she is a year old and I can't wait to see her with her special 'grin-for-granny'.

I don't do excitement. For me it is an emotion that is far to close to panic or anxiety, producing the same feelings eg upset tummy, shortness of breath, heart pounding. I do enjoy events and places that are calm and heartwarming

I'm glad I'm not the only one. My earlier post in this thread must have made me sound a right party pooper.

Same here, up to the day we flew here for a holiday all I felt was dread, we have things going on at home, but even before that, each foreign holiday brings those feelings.
Stressed? Moi?
I enjoy family gatherings at home and love Christmas, it’s the going abroad that gets to me.

MrOops is now talking about the Italian lakes for later in the year, I’ll try to steer him to the Lake District

I would be excited to go on holiday with my family too, but despite subtle hints ... nada.

shinamae - funny...and cute!

Shysal, I think it's terrific that you feel excitement about your garden ornaments!
I think this feeling is the stuff of life - no matter how small the trigger is that's brought it on.
There's enough of the dismal in life to contend with, we NEED more excitement and I think it's a real plus if you can feel it.

I get pretty excited when I have a secret.
I am positively bursting right now because I have arranged for us to go away for DH’s birthday in July, it’s to a fairly local campsite where they have pretty funky accommodation and we are staying in an original Gypsy Caravan. I know that he’s going to love it. I am much better at gifting than receiving and I just love it when I pull something like this off, then turn up somewhere with him and watch his face as the surprise unfolds.

I get excited just getting out of bed every morning. Seriously, everything excites me! Mostly the mundane kind of things, but then I look back on a very "exciting" life.
I had a super exciting day today, doing lots of different things and still opening doors.......Life is just .....fab.

This morning as it was my birthday and I was spending it out with my husband and meeting up with mybest friend to visit the American museum near Bath. Then after a lovely day going to my sons and spending time with my young grandchildren.

I’ve already mentioned my excitment doing a cruise surprise for hubby.
Got me remeniscing about many other occasions that created that glorious ‘hug myself, laugh/cry, I shall burst with happiness moment’

Walking along Hadrians Wall
Scuba Diving
Performing in a concert at the Royal Albert Hall
Being present at the birth if my first Grandson
Passing my Finals exam and becoming a nurse
Swimming in a warm turquoise sea and seeing Turtles and tropicsl fish
Seeing, and going out in, deep snow - first footprints - always magic!
Midnight Mass when we can sing “Yea, Lord, we greet thee, born this happy morning”….because it has become Christmas Day
Seeing a lit up Manhatten for the first time, as we emerged from a tunnel whilst travelling on a bus in USA
And reliving many more moments, like this, again, as I recall them.

When was the last time I was excited about something? today actually and my excitement was aimed at a new plastic supermarket trolley.

I will explain the background.

I feel 'normal' to breeze about the aisles of supermarkets with a trolley as my support ( wheeling my walking stick about in the trolley ) but more often than not I get a trolley with a mind of its own and while I push it towards the wine the blasted thing heads in the direction of the bog roll !!!!!!

Today I parked the car next to the outside trolley park and noticed a line of smart new grey plastic trolleys, I thought What's this! New plastic trolleys!

I entered the supermarket pushing a very 'obedient' trolley, the shopping experience was wonderful,i even breezed up and down aisles that I didn't really NEED to venture up and down, remarkable. So that plastic trolley brought forth excitement..

Bidding on online auctions (not Ebay I mean real time online auctions) is exciting because you never know what will happen. A couple of times the internet has gone down. Grrrr. Sometimes I have to fight for it and dont get what Im after because the bidding goes too high. Other times I get it for a knockdown price.

I am a very serious bidder and I dis-connect the door bell and switch off the phone to minimise distractions. I will also put off visitors to another day if they are likely to coincide. Many of the auctions are in the USA so they take place late evening. There is something very surreal about bidding for stuff at 2 am.

Its the nearest I come to gambling.

Ditto …tho I wouldn’t dream of bidding in the US - the postage costs from any UK Auction wins alone plus Buyer’s Premium, etc, are enough to dampen any excitement!
But the excitement and HOPE for a bargain are always there!

Last Wednesday, when relatives from Michigan came to visit us for the first time. I get excited about people and events all the time!!!

AreWeThereYet Wed 07-Jun-23 18:24:49

Yesterday when a very young spotted woodpecker landed on the roof outside the bedroom window. I'd been watching it walking around on the drive by the house, chirping away, and could see a parent in the oak tree calling it so was a bit surprised when it suddenly flew in the opposite direction and landed 12 inches from my nose. Still had lots of fluffy, chick feathers so probably only recently fledged.

Same as Bella23…… last time I was over the moon with excitement was a couple of months ago, when my DH finally passed his PhD Viva (oral exam). It had been a long and rocky road and we were pinching ourselves that evening that he’d actually reached the end of it! As we both had Covid (he’d had to do it on Zoom) we couldn’t go out to celebrate but have since!!

Maggiemaybe Wed 07-Jun-23 18:03:28

I’m a happy person generally and have had many occasions to be so (holidays, family events etc).

But that feeling of actual excitement for me always comes with a big dollop of surprise. The announcement of a pregnancy or wedding rather than the event itself (delightful though that is). Getting a “Congratulations, you have won…” message that isn’t a scam. grin

A photo of my maternal grandparents would do it for me too, chicken, as I’ve never seen one and am fairly certain I never will.

EEJit, how wonderful. thanks

Last November when I went on my first Caribbean Cruise.

I was over the moon when a complete stranger contacted me with a photo of my maternal grandfather. He died aged 32 when my mother was 7 and she never had a picture of him. There he was,a handsome young man in his early twenties, probably a photo taken when he was courting Grandma and looking so, so different from how I'd imagined him.

Was excited a couple of weeks ago to see John Fogerty play (Creedence Clearwater Revival). Still buzzing to be honest. Also, get very excited when there's a thunder storm. Im ridiculously excited if I'm not working and can watch and track it.
