Where are all the teens getting the money from to buy vapes. Which jobs are all those 13-15 year olds doing to fund their habit or are they being enabled by their parents?

Where do they get the money - from their parents, who permit them to spend as they wish. It’s cool to vale just as it was cool to smoke.

The government permitted vapes to be sold, maybe a few are used to help giving up smoking, the vast majority are not.

I did notice it was an old post.

Or in a case I know of enabled by the grandmother who knew full well that the child’s father disapproved of his child vaping.

I heard a young teenage girl state recently that she 'didn't smoke regular cigarettes because she couldn't stand the smell and it was bad for your health but vaped because she like the taste'!
Do these people NOT realise that the flavouring and the actual vapour contains chemical?? Why would anyone willingly want to put that into their body??

No one really knows what is in these vapes and that is the concern here in Australia. Kids don’t openly vape but they hide in school toilets apparently. It is illegal to sell them to under 18s and they do enforce that but of course mostof them get someone older to buy them on their behalf. We got them later than other countries and at first they were illegal but now they are sold with tobacco but not in supermarkets (yet)

Desdemona

A lot of these vapes are stolen from supermarkets who have them on public display (not behind the cigarette kiosk.) So a lot of minors are getting hold of them that way.

We have free caffeine (coffee) to get shoppers through the door, free vapes might be a marketing opportunity for some.

From the reports I've seen on TV vaping is a seriously addictive problem for youngsters. Some are admitted to hospital very ill with popcorn lung which I believe is permanent. Anyone with children or grandchildren in the 10-15 age bracket needs to have some serious conversations with them about this, although for many this may be too late.

There is a big problem around illegal vapes which (like illegal drugs) contain all sorts of horrible things which can make them ill. So don't go thinking they are just smoking nice legal vapes, they are not. Like heroin, which on its own is a clean and much less harmful substance, it becomes totally toxic and deadly when the dealers mix drain cleaner and other vile substances in with it, making the users terribly ill. The same is happening with vapes. We need to do everything possible to keep the children off them.

Ah, that's a shame

There is literally no benefit to nicotine

It causes the stress it takes away

LemonZest Wed 07-Jun-23 08:36:12

VioletSky

Teens generally use them without nicotine

So while it is a stupid fad, at least it isn't one that leads to life long addiction

I remember when the teachers and students were standing outside the school gates smoking

I don't mean to argue but my teenager GS tells his parents there is no nicotine in his, but there is. I know the brand and it doesn't do 0% nicotine. It was like when I told my parents I didn't smoke and it was my friends ciggies they could smell on me

I'm not advocating vaping

I'm just hopeful it doesn't lead to long term addiction

From the comments by teens in many of the articles I've read, I think that ship has already sailed...

It’s dangerous. A friend of mine who works for the NHS says vaping causes something called wet lung which is going to cause health problems.

Interesting article on it here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-65816244

Well yes but smoking wasnt the best plan in the world.

Hithere Tue 06-Jun-23 19:44:01

Vaping is the new smoking.
Nothing new in this world

Mollygo Tue 06-Jun-23 19:38:39

Vaping is very much like smoking was. People weren’t addicted to smoking when they started. They started because they thought it looked clever or grown-up or made them part of the in crowd very much like vaping now. Except that the Vapes cost a lot more than the cigarettes did, even though they’re cheaper than cigarettes now.
In the OP, I simply wondered where they were getting the money from.

VioletSky Tue 06-Jun-23 19:10:16

A lot of them don't have nicotine

So hopefully they put them down when they realize how daft they look

It’s not so much the nicotine that’s doing the most damage, it’s the chemicals in the battery.

MerylStreep Tue 06-Jun-23 19:06:24

There is also the problem of county lines pond life getting children addicted to vapes. What happens next is obvious.
Last year my daughter was waiting outside a school. She could see what was going on so phoned the police. You could actually walk to the police station from where she was phoning.
No action, no call back from police. It’s still going on.
