What would you have done if you were in the pub when they walked in?

My guess is that they are just very silly exhibitionists.
True naturists wouldn’t do that.

I think you are right Jennifer, I also know a naturist and family. They would never display themselves, use special campsites and beaches, home and abroad and 20 years on from knowing myself their parents still don't know.

Hope there was enough room to squeeze past the tables, imagine having a willy waving in your face as the squeezed through the gap.
Or being face to smelly bum as they pass.

Exhibitionism at its worst, I would have complained to the manager that it caused me distress, and put me off my food. Hence cause the police to be called, and the pair arrested. No common decency anymore.

I have to admit I am a little confused. As I understand it if a man "flashes" himself at me (or a child) while sitting on a train - is that not considered a crime? But the above situation is not.

Being naked is not a crime, doing it to shock someone is.

Yes, I wonder what would have happened if a naked man on his own had walked in?

Yes the different reactions between it being a man and a women, two men or two women does show up our sexist society.

Shelmiss Fri 09-Jun-23 08:17:41

wildswan16 that is a very good point!

Exhibitionism, I did my share of skinny dipping as a teen, topless on the beach, these days it’s dangerous - others would fall over laughing.
Most venues would refuse to serve them on dress code grounds, this pub obviously needed the publicity.

Witzend Fri 09-Jun-23 08:13:30

Can anyone imagine that their children would not have been reduced to helpless giggles at the sight of these two? Far from any sort of ‘shock’, I’m sure that would have been the case with mine.

Allsorts - I wouldn't want to see naked babies in pubs!
I'm OK with them in gardens and on beaches.

I was just looking at my own (confused?) thoughts around nakedness.

Allsorts Fri 09-Jun-23 07:46:20

PS I don't want yo see naked babies running about, babies wee and poo when they want.

Sara1954 Fri 09-Jun-23 07:45:21

I agree with the hygiene comments, wouldn’t want to sit on a chair after either of them.
Otherwise, I don’t think I’d be bothered, maybe find it amusing, even if I had my grandchildren, I wouldn’t be outraged, they all know what the human body looks like.

Allsorts Fri 09-Jun-23 07:44:36

Why can't a pub or any establishment ask them to leave. Surely there's a law on public decency. Apart from the hygiene aspect, I don't want to look at a pair of self indulgent naked idiots. I would have been tempted to throw a tablecloth over the pair.

NotSpaghetti Fri 09-Jun-23 07:38:57

I'm feeling quite mixed about this and don't quite understand why.

I hate to see men walking about with only shorts on in the summer - that, to me, is only for the beach. Yet somehow walking about naked feels like a right to me if they are doing no harm.
As to restaurants - I wouldn't want to eat where I could see bare chests at all - not even the men-in-shorts type (presumably the rest of the body is under the table anyway).

- Then there's the sweaty thing... I don't like the idea of potentially sweaty bodies directly on public seats anywhere to be honest - My gym has hot beds round the pool and I have seen visitors go to lie on them straight out of the sauna (which I find a bit yuk) as there are showers and towels available for guests.

I have also seen naked women sit down occasionally in the changing room at a different pool and I've seen naked children on picnic benches in the past.

I don't think I'd be bothered if they were standing at the bar... but... I don't want other people's bodies on "public surfaces" so what's that about? grin Why don't I care about arms on the counter or hands on a table though? I know this should be wiped but it's still a body part on a public surface.

I'm fairly careful with hand-washing and don't even touch public door handles if I can help it. I hate touch-screens and keep a sanitiser in my car for after a shopping trip.

Yes, nudists will carry a towel to sit on for dining (even in nudist restaurants apparently) I've looked this up before... but I've no idea which way is "up"! I'd prefer it if their towel had an up-side and a down-side - even on outside seating such as a park bench.

And no nappy changing on picnic tables hmm but letting babies have a run naked is ok (if well sun-creamed up!).

Why am I so muddled up about this?

Visgir1 Fri 09-Jun-23 07:38:54

This was on Jeremy Vine show yesterday, with some phone in comments, which were very funny. Especially the story about the soup!

Just another minority group after publicity.

Riverwalk Fri 09-Jun-23 07:36:54

I though indecent exposure was a crime.

Genitalia is genitalia, regardless of whether they're exposed by a flasher in a train carriage as happened to me as a child, or a nudist walking into a pub.

Wayne Couzens exposed himself at a MacDonalds drive-in but it seems it would have been OK if he'd gone inside and eaten at a table.

It's common decency not to go naked in public, particular an indoor venue.

Sparklefizz Fri 09-Jun-23 07:34:15

Maggiemaybe

I’d just be hoping they’d brought a couple of towels to sit on.

Exactly! It's not at all hygienic to have their bare bottoms on seats. I always think the same with naked cyclists.

Gingster Fri 09-Jun-23 07:30:14

Not nice!
I’m surprised the pub allowed it.

bikergran Fri 09-Jun-23 07:21:03

So its ok for these people (mainly the male) to expose his genitals (if this is what he did) walking round etc.

But!!! yet if another male was to "expose himself" or walk round town with his willy hanging out, then he would be arrested!

Naturist or not, why one rule for them.

I wouldn't want to go on a pub or anywhere else with nude people about, there are places for them to take up their activity.

No doubt they will be standing naked on trains, buses with
a plaque demanding their rights next.

These 2 had no thought for young children or even adults who don't wish to see other people naked.

Maybe a stint on "Naked Attraction" might full fill their needs.

Right I am off to work now at my local Supermarket, hope I don't find any naked shoppers lurking round the fruit n veg!! byeeeeeee

NotSpaghetti Fri 09-Jun-23 07:05:41

Dickens - was the pub
"boasting its 'inclusivity' credentials"?
....Not really sure that's true.

SueDomin It was considered in Scotland that being naked in public is automatically a breach of the peace.
He was given ASBOs and then obviously broke them by being naked in public.
I think exceptions were made as in if he needed to strip off - eg at a hospital. I know they wouldn't let him give evidence because he was naked.

Joseann Fri 09-Jun-23 06:31:24

Yuck, I really don't want to behold anyone's wriggly worm while eating, thank you. Bare chests neither, unless at the beach.
A time, a place.

Ailidh Fri 09-Jun-23 06:01:23

Saddos, really. Anything for a reaction.

FannyCornforth Fri 09-Jun-23 06:00:29

Dickens absolutely to everything in your post.

Giggling at ‘non-naturalist restaurants’!
Eco-types not welcome, with a picture of Chris Packham ❎

I would assume he was a man not to be alone with.

I know!
And ditto the woman.

If they are ‘exhibitionists’, which I’d assume that they are, then they get a sexual kick out of exposing themselves.

And maybe to children in particular.

I don’t get why some folk think this is all harmless stuff, and even a bit of a giggle.
It’s not a seaside post card.

Like welbeck, I would have left without a second thought
