Yorkshire tea bags, my favourite, are now plant based, no plastic.

I'll settle for my Coop 99. Cheap and cheerful, and enjoy lots of cuppas during the day.

Me too!
I used to try to keep herbal & fruit tea bags for visitors, but there are so many, I found that I didn't use them up. So now, the offer is 'hot water with a slice of ginger / orange / lime / any herbs I've got' or bring your own!
Seriously, if this is your indulgence, then good for you - I buy stuff that other might regard as 'too expensive'.
However, I would ask you to consider the environment, and think about making your own infusions.

The reason I picked up these tea bags was because they are plastic free!

It's green tea which is more medicinal than anything else. Tastes it too.

I think 23 pence for a lovely drink that you enjoy is absolutely fine to be honest.
It’s obviously not a standard tea bag or brand.
How many would you have in a day?

herbal and fruit teas can be hazardous to teeth.
which puts me off.
i think regular tea is ok. without sugar of course.

It's the acid, which weakens tooth enamel and, of course, is in fruit anyway.

It is not recommended to clean your teeth immediately after eating fruit so I would think the same advice applies to fruit teas.

Talking of hazards to teeth, I loved the little cups of mint tea they served us in Marrakesh. Till they brought it in a teapot instead one morning and I realised they must have been adding 3 or 4 teaspoons of sugar to each little cup to make it palatable. grin

I'm happy with Yorkshire tea, or a supermarket's own. Always the loose stuff though. DH is the one who burns his way through our hot beverage budget with his posh coffee habit.

They are on offer in Tesco Clubcard price is £3.50 but only 15 in the box so, no cheaper really.

Perhaps a different tea, rather than a different supermarket.

By all accounts, Waitrose seem to be selling it more cheaply than other places!

Teapigs tea is lovely, but there's no way I'd pay that kind of price for it!

I agree the tea is lovely, but I only drink it when out. The last time was in Covent Garden.

Even more expensive direct from Teapigs!

NanaDana Fri 09-Jun-23 13:47:13

I've stuck to loose leaf tea for years, and for common or garden use, tend to opt for Yorkshire Tea, or to one of the range which Ringtons produce.. a local company for me. Their Northumbrian Gold is a favourite. For the occasional treat, I buy a large bag (340g) of Vahdams Original English Breakfast Tea on line, which works out at around £60 per kilo.

I am drinking a bit more expensive tea than that.
Asked for it for a birthday present!

Got fed up with run of the mill tea.

I use one teabag a day, so I am a happy bunny for a couple of months.

Lots of specialist items that sell in very small numbers are on the shelves at Waitrose, those with a limited shelf life are likely to be binned. So they offer them in the staff shop, they get quickly scooped up and I try to be first in line.

Perks of the job

grannygranby Fri 09-Jun-23 12:14:05

just checked on amazon...tea pigs direct charge even more nearly £12 for 50 and they say that is a 30% discount! so crazy.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 09-Jun-23 12:08:54

If you Google them, they’re even more expensive elsewhere. Change your brand!

grannygranby Fri 09-Jun-23 12:08:21

because its a big box? 40 would you have gulped if it was a 20 bix at £4 something?

Salti Fri 09-Jun-23 12:07:41

£91.50 a kilo!!!

They must be joking.

Foxygloves Fri 09-Jun-23 12:04:46

Blimey!

Sago Fri 09-Jun-23 12:00:39

Nipped out early to Waitrose this morning, fruit/herbal tea was on my list.
I grabbed a box of these and then scanned them, I thought the scanner was wrong so returned to check the price.

Why?
