Not just in families either, Overthemoon. People boasting on cruise threads that they ‘only take carry on luggage’ for a 10 day cruise and 2x2 day stop overs.
I don’t mind the boasting, but I object to the put down of those who feel they need to take a reasonable size suitcase. It’s also irritating when they want to take up more than one space in the overhead luggage rack because they “only had carry on luggage”.

In my much younger days, before suitcases had wheels I thought it was a virtue too. The thought of carrying a heavy case was very off putting. Maybe it's a hangover from those days.

A few years ago my sister and her family went on holiday and the airline lost her case! Nowadays all our extended family work on the theory that every piece of hold luggage should contain sets of clothes for each person travelling with essentials in hand luggage, of course. As she said one pair of sandals, a spare set of undies and a summer dress would have made all the difference until her luggage eventually appeared.

It only matters if you expect him to carry your heavier case, which I don't suppose you do, or if you will have to pay for excess baggage.

Look at it this way: all spouses have some traits that get on our nerves. If your husband only displays his when you are packing for a holiday, then you are getting off lightly, you know.

(Said with tongue in cheek!)

I do sympathise. It would bug me too!

This isn't important, I just want to get the irritation off my chest!

When packing for holidays, why is it that some people think it's a virtue to have the lightest case? E.g. my husband! I've never known anyone pack and unpack as much. Then he tests the weight of mine and chortles ooo, yours is so much heavier than mine! Oh my days! What does it matter!! đŸ€Ł
