My garden

I really appreciate my garden. Though we have a few problems here - shared drive, neighbour dispute, maintenance problems - I just love mornings like this.

The trees giving dapple light. The colourful - great spotted woodpecker and bull finch. The powerful - Osprey and kite, very occasionally the eagle. The surprisingly pretty - Dunnock and wren. The wildlife - red squirrel, pine marten and deer.

But most of all is the Ent

Do you know why the French eat snails? They don’t like fast food

Sorry

Shinamae they have been in pots for years and the pots have copper slug tape around them. The slugs actually rear away rather than cross it.

I do believe that these disappear during the winter, but when they reappear l will get them put into pots with the tape around because they’re such attractive plants but such a feast for the slugs and snails!! 🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌
I saved a snails life this morning. He was clinging to the side of the shed, a little yellow snail being baked alive by the Sun so I put it down on some leaves….(maybe he’ll tell his friends and they will leave my hostas alone!) 😁

Do you mean the elderflower? It is a Sambusus Nigra Black Lace. Has taken off since I moved it into a full sun spot

A better picture though showing my uncut grass ☹️

My garden, though fairly wild, has some nice areas and I enjoy it, like the rest of you! Pond is looking good at the moment and trees have formed an arch leading to fruit and veg area.

Our suburban garden. Owned by resident robin who doesn’t mind if we sit there sometimes.

They’re all very very nice, but I love this one….

All lovely gardens. So much variety.
Shinamae you have done well with your gardening. I remember you starting out last year. Lovely to see the progress.

Thank you so much, but I must be honest and say that I have paid a God to do most of it, well I don’t drink drive or smoke and I consider it money well spent…

But I couldn’t! Our actual garden is small and mostly gravel now but I enjoy the views over the surrounding fields both south and west.

It wonderful and very peaceful but part of me would like to be like Hellogirl and just not have to worry about it.

I tried to post the original of this photo that I’m using as my screensaver saver at the moment, it is the view from our south facing window.

The blue and green hosta bottom right is very pretty. Do you know what it is called Greyduster?

The rest of my garden isn’t too bad….

That’s lovely Shinamae, you’ve done so much since you posted the last pictures of your garden when you were starting out, I hope you’re enjoying the process.

When we moved into our house twelve years ago, there wasn’t a single flowering plant or shrub in the garden - just a couple of cordylines in what is now my rockery wall. I can’t imagine a garden without flowers, but for people with busy jobs and young families who are time poor it’s often the last thing they want to think about I suppose.

Can I ask how you have kept the slugs and snails off your hostas I have only just started properly gardening this year and my hostas have been decimated…🤦‍♀️

Gardens are such a delight - they lift the spirits.

Bellanonna Sun 18-Jun-23 08:58:59

I remember your story, Luckygirl. I was so glad to read that you had moved back to where you wanted to be. I’m glad you’re happy there!

There are some lovely pictures on here of flowers and gardens. A very cheering thread.

These are such wonderful gardens .......

Yes it is some view - I am so lucky. When my OH was alive we lived for decades in a cottage with this view, and our bedroom had a balcony overlooking this .... it was magical.

When he became ill and I broke some bones we had to move to a bungalow about 5 miles away. We were there about 4 years till he died, and I wanted to move back to my home village ... by some miracle I managed to find a house with the identical view! It has been a joy.
