Comfort bras

I have been reading an ad showing pictures of a bra supposed to be more comfortable for older ladies. It looks just the thing with wide straps, support etc. but I cannot sort out the sizing! It gives weight and says to send for one size larger but larger than what?!

Amplebosom are the firm you need. In Yorkshire, they have a facebook page, a website and you can deal with them by post or make an appt to go and see them. Lovely very helpful people who really know their stuff. I have had bras and swimwear from them over the years.
M&S also do a very soft and comfortable bra for ladies who are quite full-bosomed. The bra is not attractive but is comfortable with good support but nothing digging in and is less than £20.00. You would no want anyone to see you wearing it but in is hot weather a godsend. I have three of them in different colours.

I have ordered twice from Facebook adverts. Absolutely rubbish, and I should have known better than to place a second order (different company)

The size received bore no resemblance whatsoever to that advertised. e.g. ordered one to fit a melon, received one that, at a push eould have fit a grapefruit.

I was drawn in as I was looking for a firm, but comfortable, supportive bra, with front fastening, as arthritis is preventing me from doing a bra up at the back.

The search continues, thus far unsuccessful.

I'm a UK size 10/12 and 34B/C. I wear the crop top style bras for karate and at night in the winter. I buy them from Sainsbury's and started off with the medium size. I soon graduated to the large size and now I buy the extra large because they were too small lengthwise. XL is their biggest size and they don't feel too big so heaven help anyone with big boobs.

Why is it saying buy one size larger? If the measurements even include weight surely the sizing should try to be accurate. Not even sure weight can be a factor. You can have a lot of muscle say in arms and legs and muscle weighs more than fat. How does that figure in bust measurement? Very strange.

I’m an E/F cup but only on one side as have had a mastectomy so am looking for a comfort bra with an insert that I can put a prosthesis in. Any suggestions??

I saw those but I hate that feeling when you're boobs are squashed, I just bought a couple of wireless bras from Triumph, they've really nailed the comfort bra market in my book, they're pretty and some are in the sale too. Check them out, they're lovely!

I got soft bras ( set of three) for my mother and ended up using them myself. I have since dumped all old style ones and have sourced more colourful ones on Amazon. I see Primark are doing similar now.

There's no such thing as a comfort bra in my world. I have been wearing bilateral prostheses for 20 years and still haven't found a bra that I can wear comfortably all day, because of my scarring. Long line bras just roll up into a tight band and bras with a band cut into my chest. Light prosthesis rise up towards my shoulders and heavier ones just pull down. Think I will just have a pretty bra tattooed across my chest.

I have several of those, too, Wyllow3 and wear them on occasions when I feel I really should wear a bra although such days are increasingly rare.
The sizing does come up small though - I'm a size 14/16 but have to buy these in a size 20 to be comfortable. I also remove the padding as it makes me look like I have a pillow up my jumper!

Erm...I need the padding.....grin.

yes, I buy one size larger, but they do warn you "fits small". But it's easy to order 2/3 sizes for a try out.

I rabbit on about them as they have transformed life as in comfort, nver had so comfy before, one hardly feels they are on, nothing cutting in or leaving bulges over the edges, and because of the colour range showing the straps just becomes part of an outfit.

Maybe, just Google ' comfort bra ' up they pop!

I`ve been looking at, and thinking about, Daisy bras. They`re supposed to have been designed by a 70 year old woman, and actually look comfy in the pics.

I find a ‘comfort bra’ is helpful when my asthma is playing up. Sloggi or, if you need more support, I found Cotton Traders amazingly good - comfortable, good uplift and certainly no boobs under armpits, never a good look. Cheap and wash well.

Wyllow3 Sun 25-Jun-23 19:54:55

I'm only a B Freya so they look OK out and about....but its also hard to go back now onto ordinary bras after the comfort ones.

Freya5 Sun 25-Jun-23 19:48:02

Tried them, okay for wearing around the house , but no way would I wear outside it.

Wyllow3 Sun 25-Jun-23 19:35:25

Looking at the posted pictures, I wear something similar in the day from M n S.

Similar but they put my boobs where they should, not round the side. But if I were more well endowed I'd probably look for more support for the day. Size wise on the M n S ones its 10,12,14,16, 18 and so on and buy on larger side. Great colour range to wear under different clothes.

In the night at home I always wear a cheaper version from Amazon without the padding - so comfy not flopping around!

rockgran Sun 25-Jun-23 19:25:18

I wear mine for casual days but still like a good bra for dressing up. They are very comfortable so if you get used to them an ordinary bra does feel quite restrictive. I got a larger size than I would normally get as the first ones I tried were too tight. I get mine on eBay - 3 for 10 pounds. I don't have a huge bust though.

Marydoll Sun 25-Jun-23 19:19:39

I only wear a comfort bra, in hospital. Totally impractical to wear a proper one, with heart issues.
I'm sure we are all aware of the need to be measured to find the correct size, but do we all actually follow that advice?

Casdon Sun 25-Jun-23 18:36:51

I can see the need for a bra of this type when you’re lying in bed in hospital, definitely, but I don’t understand why people can’t find normal bras that aren’t uncomfortable, as until I read a thread on here a few weeks ago I didn’t realise it was an issue at all. Surely if your bra fits you properly and has good support you don’t really notice you’re wearing it, having worn one since your early teens? I must be missing something, but I would have thought that a bra that’s fitted for you would be more comfortable than one which is stretchy and provides less support.

Scribbles Sun 25-Jun-23 18:31:01

Surely, the term "comfort bra" is an oxymoron?

ParlorGames Sun 25-Jun-23 18:27:40

My advice to anyone considering a different style of bra to what they normally wear is to go and have a proper measure and fit - there are independent shops around that do this despite M & S no longer doing it and Debenhams and BHS having closed down.
I go to one about an hours drive away, pay for the consultation and that fee is deducted from the purchase of a proper fitting bra.

M0nica Sun 25-Jun-23 18:22:03

Gosh, MayBee70 I Have always been entrely thankful that I do not have a cleavage, but then I was a 60's chick and the fashion then was for shapes like mine.

Hetty58 Sun 25-Jun-23 18:12:53

I've never found a bra that's comfortable. Like jackets and shoes, I don't wear them at home, just for going out.

Marydoll Sun 25-Jun-23 18:00:37

Maybee, I know QVC sell them. I can't remember, where I got mine, it was ages ago.
I keep them in my hospital bag, as sometimes I end up in a mixed ward. I am rather well endowed (would rather not be, for such a wee woman) and don't want to sit with my arms folded all the time. 😉

MayBee70 Sun 25-Jun-23 17:38:11

Marydoll

This!

What make are the? They seem to have more shape than the comfort bras I wear. I have got a couple of Sloggi bras that are comfortable but I’m thankful that I ‘m pretty flat chested and can go bra less in this weather. However, I was so embarrassed by my lack of cleavage I think I would have been tempted to have them operated on when I was young. I remember my MIL asking me what I wanted for Christmas one year and I said ‘ a cleavage….’.
