You're very patient Georgesgran.

I should add that it’s not as bad as it was when DH had a company car, I had a sports car and there was a 4x4 to take the dogs out!
The car nearest and another out of sight to the left are actually parked on my land. The neighbours have been there 20 years, but other than the odd nod, speak to no-one on the development, come to nothing when invited and most of us can’t wait for them to go! We’ve only found out by chance of their move, so I expect the parking will get worse, before it gets better!

My neighbour opposite (moving soon apparently-yippee) have 7 adults living in the house and you’ve guessed it - 7 cars. Not a problem, except they’ve parking for only 2! It’s like a garage forecourt and this is the view out of my kitchen window most days …..

Lathyrus

Just keep knocking when you need them to move.

Sorry could you just move your car so I can get out.
Sorry could you just move so I can get in.
Sorry I have to go out again.
Sorry I’m back and need you to move so I can get out in.
I’ll be going out again later.

Sorry can you move so my visitor can park on my drive.
They’ll need to get out again in half an hour.
Sorry can you move so my visitor can get out.
My son will be coming later so I’ll have to bother you again.

Dear, oh dear, it is a bit of a job isn’t it😀😀

That should do the trick.

My son did all of that but one day when he came back and found his drive blocked yet again - he blasted his horn and bellowed out of the car window ……. Just move your f*****ing car.
I’ve never been so embarrassed - me and my husband were sitting in the back but it never happened again. Amazingly they still get on fine with the neighbours in question 😂.

We have this problem in our cul de sac ,.We all have garages but the cars are too big to go in them! we have one car but three cars opposite, two next to them , three on one side of us and two on the other side . Good thing is they all shuffle the cars on the road and if anyone has visitors we all make an effort to help each other out… so far it all works well 🤞🤞🤞

JdotJ 😁. Brilliant!

Same as Grandbatty said. If you're expecting visitors park your own car across the driveway, and you can move it when your visitors arrive. Maybe next door will get the hint. We have the same problem.

This happened a few years ago where my mum & Dad lived. New neighbours parked across dad's driveway (neighbours had their iwn drive which they left empty).
Dad would knock on their door at all times between 6am and 11pm, asking them to move their car as he HAD to go out (he used to drive around the block).
They soon stopped doing it.

Perfect @Lathyrus

You’re entitled to be able to get in and out of your drive. This doesn’t necessarily equate to leaving a full-length parking space clear.

Grandmabatty Thu 29-Jun-23 14:02:44

Why don't you start parking on the road in front of your house, leaving your drive free? I don't mean forever but just when it bothers you most. I had that for a while with visitors to neighbours and went over and asked them to move (politely but firmly). They stopped doing it

Painting on a public road is illegal and can result in a hefty fine plus costs of removal.

Mark it out with paint. This is what the couple next door to me resorted to when the neighbour on the other side constantly parked over his drive, and eventually, because they had a car with a long bonnet and had to back out a long way to see they parked in front of their house. Tactful negotiations got nowhere. They eventually moved away but the man is still here; the adult children have returned so there are now four cars to be accommodated, and there were issues with the new neighbours, who eventually consulted the police.

If you’ve got a dropped kerb they shouldn’t be blocking it so you can politely ask them to stop. If the kerb is not dropped it might be inconsiderate but you can’t insist that they don’t block your driveway. If the issue is that the drive is not completely blocked but you don’t have a clear view when leaving there’s not a lot you can do except making sure you reverse in which gives better visibility when leaving. Good luck.

The spaces are there at this moment as everyone at work. Later on and weekends its a different story. Family one side has 5 cars and they use up nearly all the road. So my space in front of the drive is always being used by them and their visitors so no space for mine or when i want to get off drive.

Theexwife Thu 29-Jun-23 12:13:50

They may not be aware that it makes it awkward for you to leave your drive, if you tell them it does not mean that you will fall out.

As for your visitors, you have said there is space a couple of car widths down, they could park there.

travelsafar Thu 29-Jun-23 12:09:59

I dont want to fall out with neighbours but their visitors tend to park part way over my drive access. Its so annoying because if i have anyone calling they can't park in front of my drive or even on it. I struggle to get off the drive as well, especially if visitors car is one of the new jeep type vehcicles, i just can't see as my car is a small one. Sorry for rant i know parking is an issue everywhere, it just really annoys me, especially if there are spaces a couple of car widths along the road!!!
