Paying online - how quick is this?

Using Messenger just now - 4 minutes from start to end
14.26 Friend in Spain “How much do I owe you?”
14.26 Me “£XX”
14.28 Friend “Sent it.”
14.30 Me “It’s arrived.”

No, we don’t use the same bank. Both banks are in the UK

However, I can pay into an account in Spain and it arrives within 10 hours. That’s without paying any express charges.

But cheques still take 4 working days to clear!

My last cheque book's date started 19**. I didn't realise that they still existed.

Not only do they exist quite a few of my clients pay me by cheque.
As our local Barclays is closing this is a nuisance. I do bank on line but I often have problems with banking. I’ve just had an issue with our church accounts and the local staff have been so helpful.

The speed of a transaction still impresses me, I recently bought a car from a private seller, and transferred the money by the roadside, all done instantly.
