I loved the Beatles. Saw them lots of times at the Cavern. Saw the Rolling Stones in Blackpool in 1964 (think it was) at the tower. His face looked 80 then. Not a fan. Give me the Beatles every time.

I couldn't stand Mick Jaggers looks or his prancing about, and my views haven't changed. I did go and see the Beatles and some other Liverpool groups, but it was really Elvis, Cliff, Billy Fury, Marty Wilde, Eden Kane and Adam Faith that were my heroes. I queued up for ages to see Russ Conway after his show, and have an autographed copy of 'Side Saddle'.

I used to chat to Joe Jagger, Mick's Dad, when my job with the Sports Council involved taking bookings for his students. He was lovely!

1970 is 53 years ago - but yes i remember going to see Tommy Steele. The only Ned Kelly I remember (from reading I wasn’t there smile was an Australian Outlaw from the late 19th Century. But though i enjoyed pop’ music and dancing to it at parties, I couldn’t’t name many of the singers and was/am always pretty eclectic - I always preferred Classical music, particularly Opera!! Never really liked the Rolling Stones then - tho many of their numbers now have a nostalgic memory for me - dancing!

Kilburn is still very dodgy.

In the summer of 1969 I saw Mick Jagger in a white dress in the Stones free concert in Hyde Park. I had previously seen him in a concert in the Bradford Art College in 1964, or was it 1963? No one knew much about them then I think. Doesn’t seem that long ago!

I think more than a few people knew them, they had their first hit in 1963.

Yes, poor Jerry. She always seems so nice as well (I love her voice)
And then she got treated abysmally by blooming Rupert Murdoch! angry

She should have stayed with Bryan Ferry now there's" Whoar" and wearing well for mid 70's. Though he's had about 4 wives as well. Northern but with a lounge Lizard smoothness.

I was really amazed to find that he was from a working class background.

I watched the Stones last night on SkyArts with my DD and grandchildren, 7 year old GS was transfixed !
My late DH was a big fan but I was more for the Beatles …

No!! Not Bryan Ferry.
Mind you, if I had to choose?

None of the above 😲

I wasn't too keen on Mick Jagger, except that I had always had thick lips and my elder sister used to laugh at me, so I was very grateful for 'rubberlips' then, even if his voice grated. It still does, when I watch the '''60s' programme.

What amazes me about that programme is that so many videos were made. That is new to me. Where were vidoes in the 1960s?

I was not interested in the Stones, or the Beatles but my children were.
I was into the big bands when I was in myteens. Henry Hall, Joe Loss.
I watched programme about Joan Collins last night. She is 90.

Oh, didn't see that. Is she really 90, Bijou? 😲

My DB and SisIL loved Joe Loss and saw him at dances they used to go to.

I worked in the Outback back in the day, but Ned Kelly was before my time...

But was Mick Jagger there, pretending to be an outlaw in the Outback? 😁

Fanny lovely to see the ad for the Everlys tour.
I went to the the same concert but in London.
The Stones tried to chat me up beforehand. They were very keen but looked scruffy compared to most (clean cut) groups and I gave them the heave ho. Surprised me when they suddenly appeared on stage.

So can I foxygloves. I was never a fan of Cliff but Omar Sharrif ……

My sister met Omar Sharrif back in the mid 70's when she worked at the Foreign Office in Paris, he asked out her, she said no lol!

My friend’s OH was a roadie for the Stones about 20 years ago when people thought they were on the brink of retiring but they’re still going. He used to say that Mick was a great bloke and super fit.

An old colleague of mine had previously worked in the entertainment industry and had met various 'stars', he spoke very highly of Mick having met him on a number of occasions over the years.

123gran Sun 30-Jul-23 15:27:05

He had heart surgery in America a few years back. According to the papers he had a leaky heart valve and had to postpone their tour until he’d recovered. Amazing!

Gwenisgreat Sun 30-Jul-23 13:49:58

When I lived at home in the 60's, I didn't dare show a liking for the 'stones, but The Beatles were OK. In the pictures in the paper it suggests Mick is staggering, is he staggering because of his age? or under the influence of imbibing? probably a bit of both! That will probably be me next year (if I'm still, here!)

annifrance Sun 30-Jul-23 13:46:25

A friend was in the same class as Marianne Faithful at the local RC convent school. She was the darling of the mind until she got involved with MJ. This friend was watching him on television cavorting on stage , a close up of his mouth as he sang. How can Marianne she said!!!

oldeman Sun 30-Jul-23 13:26:58

I never was really a fan of the Stones, more of a Beatles fan. However, for Mick to get to 80 is probably close to a miracle. I applaud him for the fact that he managed to get past a period of mind enhancing products and still manages to perform most of their back album with aplomb. Happy Birthday Mick and may you have many more. (PS: his facial features have not changed much, he looked 80 when he was 30 lol. Only joking)

Candelle Sun 30-Jul-23 13:17:25

Mr C saw the Rolling Stones at a concert in a pub c. 1965. I asked what his opinion of them was and he replied that anyone who played R and B was wonderful!

Some years later we were in a cinema in Kilburn (then a rather dodgy part of London) which we had travelled to as it was one of only a few cinemas to show 'Performance': many had banned it. We were watching Mick Jagger (fairly wooden!) in the film when suddenly, everyone in the cinema turned and looked over their shoulders as the film character (played by Mick Jagger) had walked along the road outside, climbed the stairs in the cinema and entered through the doors behind us! Rather spooky!

No, I’m not keen at all either.
He seems quite charmless and humourless

That would be my summing up too.
