Hello kitchen people, especially Yia! I hope all goes well. The last time we moved, OH was on business in Nigeria. He left before contracts were exchanged and returned three days after we had moved. He was away for 6 weeks!
I managed to get everything done in Oxford that I needed to. I got caught in the rain, which was fine. My International Driving Licence was £5.50 for three years, which I thought was very good value. I didn’t have one in Australia but someone suggested I should get one for France.
Lunch was a round of prawn sandwiches and a slice of delicious chocolate cake in M&S.
Have a good evening - it is OH’s turn to cook before he goes out. I think it might be a ready-made chilli.

A very good afternoon to you all.
I have just fed a hungry cat and am sitting down for a cup of tea.
I haven’t been well for several days and haven’t been dressed since Friday.
Everything is such an effort and my energy has gone south along with any enthusiasm.

Some of you may have read my thread from yesterday about my neighbour.
It firstly made me cross then upset me and during the night I became cross again.
However enough of that.
I am thrilled for Yia in her new abode and slightly envious too.
A new start is always good.

The weather last week did not suit me and I suspect a lot of you, at all.
I felt drained, then I hurt my back, strong painkillers upset my stomach and now I am dealing with the con….tion.
TMI?
Stewed prunes and apricots on the menu.
Much cooler and damp today.
I long for crisp, sunny September days, days of mists and mellow fruitfulness.
Never really satisfied 😉
Have the best evening you can everyone and you childminders, very well done.

Special good wishes to our Yia flowers

Special love to you lovely lot. The sun is shining. The air is crisp and I feel very much better for it.

Ticking off list of to-dos in readiness for our special visitors. Seven more sleeps. grin
The Australian niece and her friend are globe-trotting. In October, we will have the pleasure of meeting our niece when she visits Scotland. Her friend will visit relatives in Glasgow. After which, they meet up again and continue their adventure. Mr Soop's sister, also living in Australia, is also to visit together with her adult son and daughter. They will then be saying hello to friends in England.

Right! That's enough of my blethering. I have stuff to do. Thank you for your company. smile moon

Happy new home to Yia! 🏡 ☕️ 🍰
Excellent news, Corner about your dh. I hope your worries about others soon subside.
Your holiday sounds lovely, Topsy.

It’s sunny and warm (although not boiling) again today. No particular plans but catching up on odds and ends, I think.

Take care, everyone. Xx

Grandmabatty Tue 12-Sept-23 12:59:19

All the best to Yiayia who will probably be in the throes of moving house. I hope it all goes well. Dgs2 is having a nap. He took the opportunity while I was on the phone to mum's mental health nurse, to empty a shelf in the bookcase and turn the Lego box upside down. That'll be my task shortly. I'll be back later

brook2704 Tue 12-Sept-23 12:05:15

Wishing Yia all the very best with the move today
Goodness corner you’ve such a lot going on, hoping things get resolved quickly for all concerned. Good news about your DH though, you’re doing a fantastic job looking after him
What a lovely holiday nannytopsy enjoy every minute!

cornergran Tue 12-Sept-23 09:51:40

Good luck yia. All will be well.

Some positive news. GP was happy with Mr C yesterday, delivered some good advice about a recovery plan, I’m not at all sure the selective hearing didn’t block it out though. Heart Institute next week then I’m hoping we can just get on getting better and my lurking anxiety will be a thing of the past.

Just a little (lot!) envious here nannytopsy. Sounds wonderful. Will there be photos?

Thanks for your photos granmarie. They resurrected some good memories here.

Hope you stay well sued and your daughter recovers quickly.

More good news here. Well for us, I’m not sure about others. Our son has now tested negative (twice) which indicates covid was going rather than arriving on Sunday. It does seem to mean although he’s not felt at all unwell in the last week while he’s been on four planes, in three countries, six airports, two places of work and at a presentation he may be responsible for an epidemic. He feels very uncomfortable about it.

Unfortunately our Welsh friend is very unwell, she fainted on a beach, all very dramatic, had superb emergency care and is now at home while really, really struggling. We can do nothing other than listen this time. Our covid spreader son will offer to go across, suspect she’ll be grateful but refuse as it’s my presence she really wants. Her situation is worrying me.

Like buses worrying people don’t come along singly. Our goddaughter is enmeshed in an investigation into (lack of) safeguarding of her Mum in a care home. Again lots of phone support needed. I can help a bit from memories dragged from my working life but really I’m as much at sea as she is. Hard not to worry about them both and indeed our goddaughters husband who bears the brunt of it all.

Oh well, it’s not all bad. Our two are heroically filling gaps in the stuff I can’t physically manage. My spine is holding out in spite of dire predictions (by Mr C) to the contrary. I’ve a super new cushion making sitting comfortable. There are more settled times on the horizon. Time to look on the bright side I think.

With that I must prepare for our grocery delivery. The driver needs to see some worktop to deposit it grin

Be good everyone. TOYA.

Grannmarie Tue 12-Sept-23 08:53:31

Good morning, Soop, Nannytopsy, Jaxjacky and all lovely Kitchen people.

I hope all went well with the Corners yesterday at the doctors.

Your holiday sounds perfect, Nannytopsy, enjoy every minute.

As Jaxjacky says, good luck to YiaYia for the big move, hoping all goes well.

Just heading out to morning Mass, candles will be lit and prayers offered for all who need/ wish them. 🕯🙏💕 Then I'll attempt my Aquafit class, wonky knee permitting.

Wishing everyone the best possible Tuesday, take care.

Jaxjacky Tue 12-Sept-23 08:37:07

Sounds wonderful Nannytopsy good you’re a little cooler.
Popped in early to wish Yia good luck today, if I’ve got the day right, for THE MOVE.
I hope it all goes smoothly.

Nannytopsy Tue 12-Sept-23 07:30:16

Good morning to you all in the kitchen! Lovely time being had by all in France! Lovely wine and food, good company and board games to play in the evening, now we have a few days off from rugby. DGS is being a little star (of course) and keeping us entertained. He has started to stand up without the aid of the furniture, so we expect walking soon.
We are off to a market this morning and then there is talk of a fish restaurant.
I’m glad you are all keeping busy despite the heat - it’s cooler here now we are by the coast. I wonder if my garden has survived?
TOYA X

Jaxjacky Mon 11-Sept-23 22:31:04

A late one from me quiz, don’t ask!
Lovely pictures Grannmarie I like helicopters, we often get Chinooks flying over SueD.
All child carers get medals, it’s official, I remember those days.
Late, so bed.

SueDonim Mon 11-Sept-23 21:09:59

Hope the appt went well for your Dh, Cornergran and that your son is soon recovered.
Fabulous photos, Granmarie. My Dh used to work offshore and those Chinook helicopters still give him the collywobbles if he sees one! grin Hope your mammogram is all boringly normal.
Looks like there’s been a lot of child care going on - I prescribe large gin & tonics all round to those long suffering grandparents!

Dd succumbed overnight on Saturday to the sickness bug the GC had last week. We saw dd & children on Sat afternoon but as we were out at a cafe and then a couple of shops I hope we weren’t close enough to pick up any germs. 🤞

The postman brought a surprise parcel delivery this morning. Inside was a Collins dictionary - it seems I’d won a crossword competition and this was the prize! It will also be useful as a lethal weapon against burglars, as it weighs a tonne.

My best friend came over yesterday, to go to an art exhibition and visit a garden. The weather was so lovely and it was all most enjoyable. She came back for a meal with us (her Dh is in a care home with dementia though he’s only 75) and we caught up on each other’s news. By the time she left the rain was stoating down and it rained on and off overnight. Today dawned bright and sunny, though.

It’s mostly been a day for doing all those little tasks, laundry, going into town for some small items, filling the car up and putting air into a tyre that was low. I’m hoping it’s not because of a slow puncture.

Sweet dreams, all. Xxx

Good evening Kitcheners. It’s very hot and sultry here, despite last night’s downpour and lots of light rain showers today.

The plumber has been to look at our outdated en-suite shower with a view to updating it. He’s going to get some stuff together for us to look at and then give us a quote.

We also need to get a quote for replacing the windows and French doors for the whole house. I think that’s probably going to be frightening! Needs must, and we won’t ever have to do it again.

Pleased to see your full post Grannmarie smile.

I’m struggling to type, have just corrected some silly typos. My brain is refusing to find the correct words, so I’ll just wish you all a peaceful evening ❤️

Scapa1 Mon 11-Sept-23 20:00:15

Evening kitcheners. Well that is Dgds reunited with their parents and myself and grandad have flopped! Successful weekend all round although it felt like we were running a cafe and taxi service at some points. I am sure many of you will know how that feels. Ds and DiL enjoyed their long weekend in Krakow it is good for them to have a wee break from the girls just not too often 🤣.
Happy that the weather is a bit fresher the mugginess does not suit me at all although it has been better in Central Scotland than many places south of here. Early night I think.

brook2704 Mon 11-Sept-23 19:11:56

Aww what a gorgeous wee boy he is grandmabatty thanks for sharing the picture!
We don’t have a Waitrose here llfl but food prices seem to have gone up everywhere. I’ve also noticed that there’s hardly any special offers around either

Grannmarie Mon 11-Sept-23 19:04:48

Handsome boy 👦, Grandmabatty, lovely photo.

Ladies, I can't take credit for the air show photos, most of them were from DS1's camera, forwarded to our family WhatsApp.

Roast chicken for dinner, then I'll enjoy the Monday evening quizzes.

Have a restful evening, TOYA.

Grandmabatty Mon 11-Sept-23 18:41:45

Hard work Brook. I've occasionally threatened dgs1 with phoning his mum. A photo of said grandson splashing around at the Wheel. It's great for his age but not so good for the wee one. A peaceful evening to all.

brook2704 Mon 11-Sept-23 18:23:51

Good afternoon kitchen pals, can I just sit down in the corner please and recover a while 🤣
Fabulous photos grannmarie well done - sounds like you had a great time
We’ve just got home after dropping the two terrors back home. This morning didn’t get off to a very good start but after a quick phone call from their mum things improved and we’ve had quite a good day. They just don’t like the same things, DGS is happy to go out for the day but DGD just wants to stay in 🤷‍♀️ They’ve grown out of taking each others toys like your two grandmabatty but they argue over the which games to play, who’s going to be banker, deal or whatever and then try to bend the rules when it suits! Or it’s not fair etc etc 🤣
I think I’ll come and help you with the ironing Baggs

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 11-Sept-23 18:20:05

Hello kitchen people.
Well, I did a Waitrose shop this morning. Haven’t food prices gone up?
After lunch I spent a couple of hours at my friend’s over the road with a few others. We sketched, drank tea and ate cake.
Tonight we are finishing off leftovers. I will have chicken curry with a naan. OH will have Mac n cheese with sausages and peas.
It’s good the weather has cooled down but it is still muggy.
Have a lovely evening.

Baggs Mon 11-Sept-23 16:10:11

I have ironing to do too but it can wait. I did some hedge-cutting instead and got rained on, which was pleasant.

soop Mon 11-Sept-23 15:49:13

I have ironing to do. Oh joy!

All good wishes to you lovely lot. Try to keep out of mischief. smile moon

soop Mon 11-Sept-23 15:47:17

Grannmarie Excellent photographs. Well done.

Grannmarie Mon 11-Sept-23 14:41:45

Thanks, Grandmabatty. The Falkirk Wheel is a great day out. Your wee boys sound like my younger two ( I have three sons). DS2 would build special creations with Lego, then DS3 would come along and demolish them!

Grandmabatty Mon 11-Sept-23 14:35:48

Lovely photos Grannmarie. The boys tend to squabble a lot. Dgs2 grabs toys that dgs1 is playing with. There are brief moments of harmony but they tend to play individually in the same space. Dgs2 will often copy what dgs1 is doing. This morning we were at the Falkirk Wheel and then dgs2 and I played in the garden while dgs1 had a rest. Now dgs2 is napping. Have a good afternoon kitcheners
