It’s Yorkshire Day, where is your favourite spot?

I will start and it’s a tough one! Our beautiful county has so many wonderful places.
My no 1 spot is Thixendale, I love to walk through the dry valleys, the beautiful artwork by Chris Drury just adds to the natural beauty of the area.
We often walk the 8.5 mile route and may only see one or two other walkers….bliss.
Thixendale was the last place in the UK to get TV reception as it’s so remote, it didn’t arrive until the 1990’s.

I absolutely love Whitley Bay, too many wonderful assets to list here but it was voted best place to live in the north east.
PS. I don't live there unfortunately.

Living in Essex we love Yorkshire, DH has a step-brother in Harrogate and other family in Hebden Bridge and we both live York, moving out of Yorkshire I also live Northumberland and their amazing beaches

Our DD lives in Lancashire which is lovely in its own right. We go for lunch and have got to know the surrounding villages quite well. For a change we often go to Haworth or Skipton for lunch and a wonder round. There are such lovely little craft shops proper butchers and bakers etc as well as the lovely landscape.

My home and my town. Happy ( belated) Yorkshire Day to all who share a love for God's own country.

Oh how lovely these places sound. My mum was from Yorkshire and some of the fam still live in North Yorkshire and round York. A long way from Australia, though, unfortunately.

Oops I’ve no idea where that 1st photo is but it definitely not Yockenthwaite - that'll teach me to post when it’s bedtime!!

Incomers in retirement to West Yorkshire we love where we live but our favourite place, amongst many here, is probably Upper Wharfedale around Yockenthwaite.

Yorkshire is close to perfection - but only because it’s next to Lancashire 😀😀

My family were from Scarborough and I always took the children there for traditional seaside holidays.
I discovered Filey a couple of years ago and fell in love with that beach. Going next week with adult DC and staying on the seafront where I can hear the sea while I am in bed.

Sago: most of my Yorkshire relatives were from the West Riding and would have said Harrogate was too posh to be in Yorkshire. My OH was born there but I was born in Wakefield.

Yorkshire has some beautiful towns in all 3 Ridings and the South.
Wetherby, Boston Spa, Beverley, Ilkley, Tickhill, Bawtry and more, all lovely destinations.
I dislike the word “posh”so will describe them as more desirable.
Yorkshire is not all cloth caps and whippets.

Grosmont and Goathland for the North yorkshire moor steamtrain, lucky enough to live just down the road from them in Redcar

I love Yorkshire - it's not just incredibly beautiful , but the people are so nice , warm and friendly .

I only know West Yorkshire well and love Hebden Bridge though I avoid the London luvvies like the plague !

I'm looking forward to exploring the rest of Yorkshire .

In Yorkshire, it’s Bradford for me. Don’t laugh, I like the Italianate architecture.

For me it has to be the amazing coastline. Despite living in Yorkshire for 38 years (born in the Midlands) we too only discovered Filey recently. I also love Knaresborough,York and Whitby.

Robin Hood’s Bay for me. Took the kids there loads when they were small.

Cauldron Falls, West Burton, Leyburn, in the Yorkshire Dales. It's heaven on earth. A hidden gem.
Full of special memories for me.

So many lovely places in this fabulous county, that I can’t choose just one 😁.

nightowl Tue 01-Aug-23 13:32:38

All of it but not necessarily the most beautiful bits, of which there are far too many to pick one out. Mostly the old West Riding where I was born and bred, and where my heart will always be.
