I love porridge topped with apple and a sprinkle of cinnamon. One morning I used Chinese 5 spice instead of cinnamon!
Just awful 😂

Pre-prandial drinks at our bookclub dinner - I reached forward to take a few pistachios and plunged my fingers into... hummus which had decorative whole chickpeas on the top!

Making icing for a cake. Instead of icing sugar I used cornflower which I’d put in a container and didn’t label. I thought this isn’t mixing very well and had a taste. Urgh!!

We’re getting a good crop of blackberries from the allotment so I defrosted a bag of last year’s apple pulp to make a crumble for when the DGCs come round at the weekend.

Except it was chicken soup!!😮

Thank goodness I haven’t lost my sense of smell but it meant I’ve had to pop out for some apples as it was the last bag of mystery lurking in the bottom of the freezer. 😂

Many years ago my SinL and her DH were having afternoon tea in a Blackpool hotel when the waiter came tearing out of the kitchen, waving his arms at them. Apparently ‘someone’ had loaded mayonnaise instead of cream on the scones. Luckily, neither had bitten into one.

My mother, in one of her off moments, gaily squirted the uncooked chicken with washing up liquid instead of sprinkling salt on it. She then proceeded to wash it under the tap. Oddly enough, no one ate the skin...

Similar to eddiecat78, I took out what looked like stewed apple for crumble, only to discover the tub contained butter beans.shock

Oh, and I also thawed out a tub of rhubarb to make crumble - it was celery

I did once sprinkle a roast chicken with mixed spice instead of mixed herbs

Went to Bills restaurant in Covent Garden a couple of weeks ago, and had a wonderful Santorini Salad, with Feta cheese, watermelon, pumpkin seeds, tomatoes, cucumber etc

I thought "well I can replicate this at home", so today is the day for a Santorini Salad at home.

The plate is prepared and looking very tempting, and the last thing I do is sprinkle a generous helping of what I thought were pumpkin seeds, only to find when I started eating it, that I've liberally sprinkled dried green lentils over it.

I am now, instead of thoroughly enjoying my lunch, sitting picking green blimmin' lentils out of it.

Anyone else had one of those moments?
