I wonder how many owners will replace their Covid cockerpoos when these animals are gathered to doggie heaven.

It might be a small percentage but a sizeable small percentage of really antisocial, uncaring dog owners. Those who can happily own a dog but never bother to clean up the mess, people who bag up the s* then drop it on the ground, the owners who let their dogs jump up on you or drool and say either “ He really loves people “ or “He won’t hurt you “ I have just come back from town on the bus, one owner allowed her dog to bark and the other let hers wind itself around the legs of people.
I hate that dogs at allowed in shops and on beaches, there is just no escape. Sadly I sure that most dog owners consider themselves to be good ones and that they look after their “ fur babies “ ( yuk ) well.

Totally agree - I have had dog poo ( untagged!!!) dropped into the bottom of my empty bin and left on grass verge by my home. Yuk!! Also had bad experiences in " dog friendly" cafes such that I now avoid them .

I'm reading this and remembering back 70yrs ago when poo bags were unheard of!! Our dog and others were trained to go off the pavement to the side of the road and we had a road sweeper who removed it and any other rubbish lying there. Mind you, there wasn't many vehicles on the road back then but I don't remember getting any dog poo on my shoes when I was growing up.

PS: Our dogs were always walked on the lead especially in housing areas.

I volunteer at a local museum, which is open air, with craft shops and galleries amongst the gardens and small exhibition room. Dogs (on a lead) have always been allowed, with very few problems - until this year...
So far this season, we have had TWENTY-FIVE instances of dog poo being left for the museum staff to clear up - and about half of those have been inside the craft shops..!
The museum is seriously considering banning dogs, as no other solution seems possible - we have tried signs, volunteers gently pointing out the problem to visitors with dogs - who all profess to be horrified and insist that they would never do such a thing 🙄 and handing out leaflets; nothing has worked. Several of the museum assistants are now rebelling (understandably) as clearing up dog mess on a regular basis is certainly not in their job description. The craft workers - who pay rent for their workshops - are also very upset
I fully expect all hell to break loose if a ban is brought in - but I see no other option.

I can't understand people who don't pick up their own dog's poop. I always make sure I clean it up.

On two occasions in the past five years that I have had my dog I have found myself with no poo bags. I went home and got some and came back and picked it up. I felt awful leaving it, even for a short time.

I can remember the days when bringing dog poo into your home on the bottom of your shoes was a common hazard. I really thought that these days we were more considerate. The idea of a dog walker leaving it all is awful.

I was disgusted when I opened my garden waste bin to check if it had been emptied and found a dog poo bag on top! I removed it and transferred it to the general waste bin but had I not noticed the bin would have been contaminated and not suitable for composting. Thankfully it has only happened once to my knowledge, probably because the bin was out and the dog walker was too lazy to dispose of it properly.

It's not just dog walkers though. I once found a poo filled nappy in my bin when it was out on collection day. I went to work before the bin men collected and people picking up children at the school across the road seem to think they can put anything in our bins if they are left out! I left it there to be emptied out the following week but by they it was firmly stuck to the base of my bin so I had to remove it and wrap it to get rid of it! Disgusting!

I hope it doesn't happen again as we now only have fortnightly collections!

Most people here pick up their dog poo and there's lots of bins luckily. If I'm stuck somewhere with no bins I put it in my bag rather than carry it around in my hand. However, I wouldn't mind if someone used my bin to dispose of it. Much better than leaving it on the pavement.

Actually ever second person now has at least 2 dogs!

I'm all for muzzling dogs when out nowadays, as there are just too many attacks by them!!

Good on them. They can prosecute anyone doing it, too, as that comes under fly-tipping.
If you're going to use other people's bins, get their permission first, or you could get fined for it!!
I'd hang bells on the bin, especially if I could hide them inside the lid, to alert me to when people were doing it, which might also deter them from doing it if they thought they'd be caught red-handed!!

Oh Pippa22, how I agree. Our town is very dog friendly and almost every cafe is now allowing them. I used to take my grandchildren out to lunch often but it's not enjoyable now trying to eat with dogs sniffing and slobbering around your table. Some people just don't care and let them wander. If you must bring them, keep them under your table!

However much it annoys me when people do not clear up after their dogs, I doubt it is actually legal to post photos of dog owners just walking away from the mess, so whoever did this, needs to watch out.

A plastic bag thrown in our bin is all right, as long as the dog owner didn't as has happened put it in one of the recycling bins!

Why the hell do people do this if you re going to be careful enough to bother picking it up why can’t you carry it home or the nearest bin that takes it
Sorry but I don’t buy the ‘I’ll collect it on the way back’ I expect that what everyone says !
We also have poo trees on nice country or wooded walks
It never use to happen when I had my dog I always carried it home why wouldn’t I ?
Another reason to grr about a lot of dog owners

After watching the programme about dog attacks the other night and the little boy that was killed and another little boy who had his face eaten I think there should be a big cull of dogs and a LOT more legislation in a number of fields and that’s not meaning good dog owners before everyone has a go at me

I must live in a very unusual village. Lots of dogs but it's rare to see poo not picked up and never bags on trees. The council has provided lots of bins. Also, you can get a lock on bins if you don't want people using them!

Our local dog bins have been removed - council cutbacks. You can put the bags in any litter bin but they are only near the shops.

The bin was very rarely used. A lot of pet hung the bags on trees so they thought a designated tree that was cleared once a day might work better.

The idea was to prevent wildlife getting entangled with plastic.

There’s always a small pile of bags at the bottom of the tree. Too much bother to hang it up. Or just “I won’t be told what to do”?

Carrying a bag of poo has never bothered me. It’s not that hot! Leaving it at the roadside to collect on the return journey is unpleasant for others.
